You may see these incredible birds on our shores and beaches around this time of year. These are Shearwaters or muttonbirds and they migrate a monumental distance every year. These 500g birds fly 15 000kms each way! Not all make the journey and will often be found washed up on our shores, exhausted or deceased. It is sad but it is nature and survival of the fittest.
