Some time ago I was invited to participate in a project by Pete Dowson & Beatrice Ludwig of Friendly Farms who promote regenerative agriculture.
It’s a lovely little video and great for me to see the progress that has been made since the filming. One year on, the garden - and I - are somewhat wiser and more evolved. It’s funny to hear me say “I’d be happy spending my last days here” - as though I’m 96 yrs old! 🤣 But perhaps I will still be composting, planting trees & pulling weeds here in 40+ years!! Whoever knows what will happen?
You can see more videos from Friendly Farms here https://www.youtube.com/@FriendlyFarmsNetwork/videos
Including ones with Charles Massy and Peter Andrews
With these hot days I love working in the cool of the mornings & evenings - right up to 9pm - with darkness just an owl hoot away. Middle of the day is for reading, cooking, admin and a wee nap.
My next door neighbour Billy stamps his foot when we’re washing veges. This is what he’s after…
Compost tea
Brewing a batch of aerated compost tea (not exactly palatable I know). But great for the plants and the soil, building up all the microbes that like oxygen - the good ones.
Takes a bucket of rain water (got that😉) a couple of cups of aged compost, plus molasses, kelp and fish emulsions to feed it. Then 2 days of bubbling with an aquarium pump. It’s got to be used immediately to keep them all alive. I just keep a batch going all the time spraying it on the vegs but also spreading around all the native tube stock to give them a bit of a head start.
At the Farmers Market today. Our biggest haul yet.
