I think this is a real issue, people humanise their pets and horses too much ... a dog jacket on a super fluffy dog isn't necessary....

Do you need a thick ski jacket today?
Then why do you think your horses do?
We are seeing a huge number of horses that are overheating due to wearing rugs all day. We are also noticing horses that have lost weight or developed skin diseases that has gone undetected due to having had rugs on for months.
Rugs need to be taken off every day, and if you are not able to do this it is best to leave them off completely.
In all my years in equine practice, I have never seen a horse become sick from the cold, but I see issues from rugs and over heating almost daily

We have lots of lovebirds available.

Lovebirds have the fun personality of parrots, with the advantage of being more manageable due to their small, compact size.

Most of them are true clowns, playing for hours at a time. They love hanging from their toys, resting in their birdie tents, riding on their owner’s shoulder.

Talking Ability:
Lovebirds rarely talk, but there is a chance they may learn to mimic human speech if taught to at a young age.

Housing
Lovebirds are very active and require an appropriately sized cage. They require lots of toys and things to chew on and play with.

Lovebirds are extremely social birds, and there is debate on whether they should be kept individually.

However, the consensus seems to be that they need social interaction, be it with their own species or a human companion, for their emotional as well as physical well-being.

Without this interaction, daily exercise, a roomy cage, and many toys to play with, they may resort to feather-plucking or other behavioural problems.
Diet:
Lovebirds require a variety of food, such as high-quality pellets*, fruits, seeds, and vegetables. Birds cannot stay healthy on seeds alone.

They will often eat off your plate, if given the chance, as well has being served a good quality seed mix. I also buy an organic unfortified seed/nut mix for variety. They also love millets and other healthy treats. Sprouts and fresh greens, such as spinach, are also extremely beneficial.

We have lots of budgies looking for their people....
Budgies make awesome pets here's why
Budgies Don’t Need Much Space
Small bird species like budgies make great pets for people with limited space. At only seven inches long, a budgie is one of the smallest parrots. Because of this, a budgie’s cage does not need to be very large. However I always reccommend you buy the biggest cage possible for your space :) Make sure your budgie can move back and forth easily inside of his cage; to the horizontally-flying budgie, width in a cage is more important than height.

Since a budgie really prefers to be perched up high, he will most likely gravitate to the top of his cage and stay there, so there is no need to waste space getting an extra tall cage.
As long as your budgie is let out to fly around and stretch his wings every day, a budgie is perfectly content to share your cramped living quarters.

Budgies love to learn and show off new tricks. They don’t let being small get in the way of their trainability.

You can teach your budgie to drop balls through hoops and place rings on a peg according to color. A budgie can hang upside down from your finger or count up to the number three.

He will excel at climbing ladders or the sides of his cage — especially if the bars are horizontal.

Your bird can also easily learn to fly to you on command, play peek-a-boo, participate in hide-and-seek, and even do a somersault in your hand.

Some budgies will take pleasure in playing fetch with you or completing a homemade agility course, complete with slides and tunnels.

A budgie can even be taught to skateboard!

We have new lovebirds and canaries available...

Lovebirds might be small but they are bold, inquisitive, curious and always on the go. Many people believe lovebirds come in pairs because they are often see photos of two lovebirds cuddled up against one another. No doubt, a lovebird often forms a deep bond with another lovebird. Potential owners should be aware, however, that a lovebird pair might choose not to interact with people, as they will be thoroughly focused on each other. A single lovebird companion needs plenty of social interaction with the people in his/her life, as well as plenty of busy work in the form of toys and safe items to chew on.

We have a pair of long billed corellas arriving shortly..
The adult long-billed corella measures from 38 to 41 cm in length, has a wingspan around 80–90 cm, and averages 567 g in weight. It has a long, bone-coloured beak, and a rim of featherless, bluish skin around the eyes. The plumage is predominantly white with reddish feathers around the eyes and lores. The underside of the wings and tail feathers are tinged with yellow.
Despite their small size, Corellas demand a great deal of attention and space, and cannot be relegated to life in a cage. Successful owners usually find that they become more like dogs than birds in their interactions with people. They also tend to be unsurpassed when it comes to learning tricks.

The downside of all this is that they cannot tolerate boredom and solitude. Like other cockatoos, Corellas also have very strong personalities. Fortunately, Corellas tend to be quieter than larger species.
What to feed Corellas:

DRY SEED MIXTURE: comprising millets and plain canary. Plus small amounts of grey sunflower and Hulled Oats.

FRESH WATER: for drinking.

REGULAR GREENS: such as milk thistle, endive, dandelion, seeding grasses, etc.

CUTTLEFISH, SHELLGRIT.

VARIETY FOODS: Apple, corn on cob, capsicum, eucalyptus leaves, non-toxic buds and flowers.

these birds require a large avairy please pm for further information

Feeding plenty of fibre is essential as it is digested in the hindgut via a fermentation process which generates the heat to keep your horse warm.
Other ways for horses to stay warm include:
❄️ Growing a thicker coat
❄️ Movement in the paddock
❄️ Shivering (generating warmth by burning fuel in the muscles)
❄️ Large Circulatory System to move heat around the body
❄️ Respiratory System designed to warm incoming air
Hay Cubes are the ideal way to add additional fibre to your horse's diet over winter: https://www.multicube.com.au/multicube-hay-cubes/

We have a few Rex Guinea pigs available...
The Rex guinea pig breed is one that can be identified by its short and wavy coat, characterized by its frizzy hair that makes it look even cuter! Because they have shorter hair, it does make them a lower-maintenance breed.

Guinea pigs need a constant supply of hay and water, pellets, and around a cup of fruits and vegetables to supplement other nutrients they need, such as vitamin C, calcium, and others.

The “Cap” or “Hood” may be absent in young Oranda goldfish and may take up to several years to develop fully.
The head growth will usually start to become more pronounced at the length of 7- 9cm.

The term “Fancy” refers to goldfish that have been specifically bred to enhance certain colours, patterns and or body characteristics when compared with more orthodox or simply shaped goldfish, such as the comet. They are extremely popular with many enthusiasts as they offer some of the most unique and interesting coldwater fish available. As outlined below these fancy goldfish include; celestials, lionheads, pearlscales and orandas to mention just a few. Even though they exhibit many different colour patterns and body characteristics, they are all the one species, Carassius auratus. The domesticated dog Canis lupus familiaris is another great example of this, with a large amount of diversity all originating from the same species.

While fancy goldfish have the same water quality requirements as standard goldfish, such as comets and fantails, they are generally more sensitive to water quality fluctuations and require regular aquarium maintenance to ensure they remain in good health.

Winter mashes don't have to be bran, using hay cubes and your normal hard feed ration such as pellets, will soften easily into a nice mash.
❄️In a bucket add plenty of warm water (between 2-10 degrees) to your hay cubes and wait at least 10 mins for them to soften.
❄️You will want to add at least four times the amount of water to hay cubes to get them to soften.
❄️Then add your horse's normal ration of pellets grain or supplements for a yummy warm meal.

We have fibrewell in stock

High fibre, low starch goodness of lupin fibre, combined with the added benefits of prebiotics and probiotics, constitutes the optimal foundation feed for every horse and pony.
The Australian Sweet Lupin (Lupinus Angustifolius) is a rare treasure indeed. A proud member of the legume family, the Australian Sweet (or Blue or Narrow Leafed Lupin) is high in protein, extremely low in starch and boasts an impressive amount of digestible fibre. Unlike other, more bitter, lupins, the Australian Sweet Lupin is highly palatable and as such has long been an ingredient of choice for a wide range of stock here in Australia.

Whilst the Lupin seed itself is an impressive and nutritious feed for all manner of equines, the fibrous hull of the grain is increasingly being recognised for its own benefits. Known as a ‘Super’ or ‘soluble’ Fibre, Lupin Hulls offer enormous health benefits by not only offering a low starch, low sugar energy source but also via their prebiotic activity in providing nourishment for the sensitive equine microbiome.

Best of all, and unlike other soluble fibre sources such as Beet Pulp or Soy Hulls, Australian Sweet Lupin Hulls are grown right here in Australia and are non-GMO.
FibreWell is a highly nutritious alternative to other fibre sources such as chaff, beet pulp and soy hulls and is also the perfect accompaniment to formulated feeds. FibreWell is not a replacement for longer stemmed roughage sources such as hay or pasture which should always form the basis of a healthy diet.

At The Feed Shed

We purchased this business September 2013, from Riddle’s who were based in Hillwood, it was primarily a delivery service. I started off in a 9m x 6m shed operating from my home in Beaconsfield, I expanded the product range and continued operating as a delivery service.

We purchased the shop front in 2015 and began operation as a store in July, while continuing the delivery service. The product range has grown in leaps and bounds. I truly love what I do, and enjoy meeting my customers pets. We are now selling birds, cockateils, budgies, finches, canaries, quail, indian ring necks, and lovebirds.
