We have lots of birds to choose from... one of the most popular birds are budgies...
Budgies, are small parrots native to Australia. However, the English budgies created through selective breeding were developed in the United Kingdom. They are very colorful and vocal birds with a reputation as “good pet birds for beginners”. They are relatively easy to care for provided you keep them in a proper cage setup.

The average lifespan for budgies is about 10 to 15 years. Furthermore, budgies are found in different color variations that make them interesting to look at.

Budgies are quite intelligent birds and can learn a handful of tricks like waving, sitting on your finger, flying to you when you call them, talking, and even singing for you. However, training your budgie to do various tricks can be challenging or super-easy depending on which approach you use. YouTube is the best place to look for tips and tricks.

We still have keets available,

Guinea fowl are a hit with gardeners thanks to their voracious appetite for demolishing bugs and pest insects in the garden.

But Guinea fowl are also popular because their loud warning cries serve as a perfect alarm system against predators such as snakes they will also let you know when people come to your property.
Guinea fowl are native to the West Coast of Africa but the distinctive polka dot plumage, bald helmeted heads, and their bottomless bug munching appetites are earning the birds some real fans in Australia too.

They’ll demolish all the garden pests for you but because they are generally surface feeders they tend not to scratch or uproot established garden plants (be wary about letting them loose amongst your young veggie seedlings though).

Guinea fowl are generally too independent to make cuddly pets but their personalities and antics are highly entertaining and many people love them for their quirks.
Guinea Fowl Sounds
The males make a one-syllable chi-chi kind of sound whereas the females produce a distinctive two-syllable call.

There are several varieties of Guinea fowl but the most common are; lavender, pearl, and white.
Do Guinea Fowl Need a Coop?

it is best to keep your Guinea fowl in a coop.

Will guinea fowl fly away and will they come back?

Yes, they do fly and will often fly up into trees or rooftops to roost.

You can clip their wings, and this will restrict their flying.

But it’s important to train them from young to think of the coop as home. This ensures that they will return when they do go wandering.

When releasing young Guinea fowl from the coop for the first time, do it one at a time.

Their strong flock mentality will ensure that the loose ones will stay close to the coop.

Eventually they will all learn that the coop is home.

Will Guinea Fowl Get Along With Chickens?
Yes and no.

Guinea fowl and chickens do frequently co-exist reasonably peacefully.

But be aware that Guinea fowl will rule the roost and may bully your chickens although this behaviour is usually much less severe if the Guinea fowl have been raised with chickens.

Providing separate coops and runs can offer a good solution too.

We have new canaries, very pretty colours.. and new show budgies
Canaries are one of the most popular of all pet birds. Their happy nature, beautiful colours and amazing singing ability gives these petite birds quite a personality. These delightful little birds are very tidy, easy to keep and perfect for indoors or the back patio.

The variety in colours and feathering in canaries is broad. Solid shades include yellow, orange, rose, cinnamon and white and then there are those with a combination of colours. Border Fancy canaries are popular amongst breeders and are good for the novice to begin with. The Fife is similar to a Border but smaller in stature.

Canaries display their own personalities, and the Gloster is one of the best. It is well suited to the beginner and possesses a pleasant song. It is named for its place of origin in England, is a miniature breed known for the cap of feathers on its head that resembles a Beatles haircut.

How are the dung beetles going at your place? They're rampant here this summer! 🪲🪲💩
Remember, dung beetles do a great job at speeding up manure decomposition and help kill off worm eggs/larvae by exposing them more quickly to the summer sun and heat. While deworming drenches aren't proven to have a direct negative effect on adult beetles, the avermectin class can impact beetle larvae development. Therefore, one reason to avoid drenching in summer is to protect our wonderful little friends. If you do need to drench, it is only for the first 24-48 hours post treatment when enough anthelmintic is passed our into manure to impact the beetles.

We have new red rumps and budgies... very pretty colours
red rumps have such a lovely song....
Red rump parakeets are known for their beautiful plumage and their cheerful dispositions. These birds make great pets and can live for many years if they are well cared for. The average lifespan of a red rump parakeet is 15 to 20 years, but some birds have been known to live for 30 years or more.

The color scheme of this parakeet is vibrant, the size is moderate, and it has a distinct character. It is most common in southeast Australia. In its native habitat, the Red Rump Parakeet is a native Australian animal. This species prefers to live in open grasslands as well as near water. This bird’s personality, speed, and bright colors make it a fascinating animal. Singing and preening each other’s feathers are just a few ways for Red Rump Parakeets to communicate. They may become aggressive if they are threatened or if their friend has made them feel uncomfortable.

At The Feed Shed

We purchased this business September 2013, from Riddle’s who were based in Hillwood, it was primarily a delivery service. I started off in a 9m x 6m shed operating from my home in Beaconsfield, I expanded the product range and continued operating as a delivery service.

We purchased the shop front in 2015 and began operation as a store in July, while continuing the delivery service. The product range has grown in leaps and bounds. I truly love what I do, and enjoy meeting my customers pets. We are now selling birds, cockateils, budgies, finches, canaries, quail, indian ring necks, and lovebirds.
