Apart from annual statistics for adoptions via their platform, the report is a widespread survey of rescue industry Participants and highlights the heightened levels of work-related and personal stress experienced by participants in Pet rescue.
Also significant is the finding that councils, shelters and vets experienced a substantial increase, more than a 45% rise, in the number of pets adopted. Rescue Groups were the only organisational type on the PetRescue platform that did not
significantly increase their adoption numbers in the 2022-2023 financial year. “This supports the idea that Rescues are running at or beyond capacity and lack the ability to sustainably provide additional adoption pathways for animals.” 🐶🐾🐈
Compared to the 2022 financial year, pet adoption numbers on the PetRescue platform grew strongly, resulting in 10,000 more pets finding homes during the year (62,653 vs 52,593).

Whilst it is a big report at 119 pages long I would encourage everyone with an interest in Rescue to download and read it for the insights it holds into the industry. 🐈

Now in its second year running, the PetRescue State of Pet Adoption Report provides a yearly capture of nationwide insights and trends affecting rescue pets and the broader pet management and adoption community in Australia.

*Doggo of the Week*

Meet 'Diesel' the Australian Cattle Dog. Diesel recently travelled with Dogmovers from Seymour in VIC to Moree in NSW as a rescue. He's super handsome and we felt he was very deserving to be the week's Doggo.

Mary, who helped Diesel get on his way to his new home us these great photos and a lovely email....

“I am so happy to hear all went well with Diesel. :-) - David is lovely and I am very grateful for the personal service from Dogmovers! I was worried how Diesel would go as he'd had a tough background as a stray, with a long stint at the pound, and didn't usually like new people. But Dave from Dogmovers went the extra mile to meet with us a week before the trip and made sure Diesel would be comfortable on the journey. Dave's dog Sheila helped Diesel feel safe and welcome too. We're also super grateful to Nik for believing in Diesel and giving him a new beginning up in North-West NSW!“
Mary

Thank you Mary! We know both David and Brett loved having Diesel on their service and we are glad he's happy and has a great new start! Love the pics! 😊😊
