Vet Nurse Day!

If you came into the clinic today you would have seen the fun party decorations that were set up in reception area. It was a lovely surprise for the nurses to walk into first thing in the morning 🥳✨

There really isn't enough words and honestly not enough space on here to say how much our nurses do for us! From getting into work first thing in the morning to set up for the day, to staying back late to help clean the clinic.

Today the nurses got spoilt with personalised gifts and cheese platter to graze on throughout the day.

Our compassionate nurses are heroes without capes!

A massive thank you to
Molly, Lauren B,Lauren S, Jen, Hollie, Jess, Angela, Neva, Nat ,Amy and our lovely practice manager Kym.

‼️‼️ITS GETTING HOT IN HERE ‼️‼️

As we've all felt it, the weather is getting nice and warm and our fur-babies are feeling it too!

This is a reminder to please be mindful when it comes to walking our canine companions. Unlike us our four-legged friends can't put on a pair of shoes to protect their paws from the scolding hot ground and we often see a lot of dogs coming in with burn wounds on their paw pads. As you could imagine this would be very uncomfortable and painful 😢

Please don't walk your pets during the middle of the day, try and aim for the morning or evening. This will help protect their paws and help reduce the risk of heat stroke.

Heat stroke is a very serous condition as it can cause organ failure, make sure your pets have access to a cool shady area and fresh water all the time.

If you're concerned your pet has heatstroke NEVER put them straight into cold water as this could make them go into shock.
Start by wetting a towel squeezing the excess water out and placing it over them, move them into a shaded area and try and keep them calm. Call your nearest veterinarian to get further advise and help.

PH: (07) 54 087090
Our staff can answer any questions you have about the seriousness of heatstroke.

‼️‼️PARALYSIS TICKS‼️‼️

With the weather warming up we have seen a rise in tick cases over the past weeks!

In the past two days we have treated two dogs with tick paralysis, thankfully they are in recovery now with the help from our team but there have been many pets that have sadly lost their life from ticks 😓

We want to help in every way we can that's why we urge pet owners to please keep their pets up to date with their flea and tick preventatives.

‼️‼️REMEMBER : PREVENTION IS BETTER THEN A CURE ‼️‼️

Simparica trio and Nexgard spectra is what we recommend which are monthly chews for our canine companions

For our feline friends Nexgard spectra spot on is recommend to be given every month.

If you have questions about tick preventions please give us a call and one of our staff members can help you.

‼️‼️SENSITIVE CONTENT WARNING‼️‼️
*Owner consented to post*

On Friday we had big boy Butters admitted into our care for being unwell :(

We ran some bloods, started him on IV antibiotics and fluids. When we went to start a physical examination we felt his testicles were enlarged and hard.

Butters had something called "torsed testicle" or "testicular torsion" where on of his testicles twisted around on itself, more specifically the spermatic cord which provides blood flow to the testicle twists. This causes it to loose blood flood, swell and is quite painful as you could imagine.

How we treated this was emergency surgery to castrate the patient, which was more difficult then a routine castration because of the testicle being swollen.

We want to send out our gratitude to our clients who were happy to move their appointments, a big thanks to our nurses Lauren & Angela who prepped the surgery room, our manager Kym who monitored Butters while he was under anaesthetic and to Butters owners who trusted us to look after him ❤️‍🩹

You will see below the swollen testicle, butters after his procedure and him this morning with his human having cuddles.

We're glad Butters is feeling better and recovering smoothly!

Thursday afternoon a concerned owner brought in her adult female cat Nala and her kittens less than 24hrs old.

The owner was concerned for the wellbeing of one of the kittens and the mumma cat.

After being thoroughly examined by our vet Dr Mark he came to the conclusion that there was still a kitten stuck inside of Nala

With a case like this time is usually our biggest enemy as we had to race Nala into an emergency caesarean to get this kitten out of her uterus as soon as possible!

We had our doubts that the stuck kitten inside would be alive as it would have been in a lot of distress, thankfully when Dr Mark pulled the kitten out of the uterus he could feel a tiny heart beat.

Nurse Jen then rushed to help stimulate the baby kitten to wake up some more.
All while our practice manager Kym kept the mum cat stable under anaesthetic.

This really was a team effort from not only our staff but also to the clients who we had to call and reschedule their appointments so we could fit this surgery in.

Nala the mum cat and her kittens all got to go home that afternoon with her owner.😊
