One of our clients is needing to rehome one of their dogs, if you wish to enquire, comment below and we will send you their contact details. Please keep the comment section kind, this is a difficult situation for the family and they are trying to make the right decision.

Unfortunately the time has come to rehome Roxy as the family does not have the time and attention that she deserves and requires, alongside with the unfortunate circumstance her sister Molly (who she lives with 24/7) has done the serious injury of her ACL and will need a slower environment and to make the long recovery after surgery. This is not achievable with Roxy being at home as they like to play together and Roxy`s personality is that bit more vibrant and playful than Molly`s.

Roxy will make a beautiful family dog for someone and will be a great companion for the right family or person that can provide her with the attention she deserves. Roxy has had experience with other animals and often has not been phased by them, the quantity of interaction has been limited and therefore there is a lot of excitement when socialising.
Roxy is healthy and has never had any health issues, she is up to date with vaccinations.
She is currently not desexed but more than happy to arrange this prior to rehoming if needed.
The families main request is that we find her a loving home, there is no payment necessary and we are happy to do anything that the new family may require in order to make the transition smooth as possible.

These two adorable kittens are now available for adoption at Barkly Street Vets. Now 9 weeks old, they have been lovingly raised by one of our vets and are now ready to find their new home.
Adoption fee is $250, but this includes their full kitten vaccination course, desexing and microchipping (at a heavily discounted rate).
The kittens love to play, are toilet trained, and in great health.
The white kitten is male, the black a female.
If you would like to meet them, please phone ahead to organise a time!

Coming soon to your furry family, we have a beautiful cat in foster care with our nurse Simone and family. Willow gave birth to 5 healthy kittens, all are female and were born on Friday the 13th (13/10/23)!
They will be ready for meet and greets from the 8/12/23, and will come vaccinated, chipped and desexed!
Beautiful mumma cat willow will also be available for adoption, she is approx 2 years old and has had three litters already, she is best suited to a house without dogs, or would make an excellent farm cat. She has a loud purr and loves affection, but can get overwhelmed with busy households. Willow will also come desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.

The Callicrate Smart ba**er has earned a reputation as the most humane and effective bloodless castration method on the market. It can be used to castrate bulls of all sizes, and can be used safely year round without having to worry about mud and flies

We still offer surgical castration, but this is an excellent alternate option that we are pleased to offer to our cattle clients!

Dr Kate saw the lovely uno who needed a pedicure, and Dr Jade helped the very brave Boppy after being attacked, both unicorns are doing well ❤️

Could your pup be a hero?

Similar to humans, sometimes our pets require life-saving blood transfusions. Here are some circumstances where a transfusion may be needed:

🩸Severe trauma resulting in acute blood loss, for example being hit by a car
🩸Blood clotting and bleeding disorders
🩸Toxins that cause bleeding, such as rat bait and some snake bites
🩸Anaemia (low red blood cell count) – most commonly immune mediated destruction of red blood cells
🩸Cancer

If your dog is on our blood donor register they may be called to donate blood if required. They will never be asked to donate more than every 8 weeks as their health is our number 1 priority!
Every time your dog donates blood they will receive a free health check and blood test, and their blood will not be taken if they are not in perfect health.

✨Patient Spotlight✨

Jack is an old boy who has been with us for many years, and recently we have had a breakthrough with his arthritis management!

We are excited to offer Beransa injections at the clinic. Beransa is one of the amazing medical breakthroughs in the treatment of pain and inflammation caused by arthritis in dogs and cats. Beransa® for dogs and Solensia® for cats are extremely safe medications.

These products are a monoclonal antibody that is injected under the skin. It targets a protein that stimulates pain in arthritic patients. It stays active for a month then breaks down in the body like any other protein, so it does not cause any side effects. It can be used alone, or safely alongside other medications such as Cartrophen and meloxicam.

❄️WINTER IS HERE ❄️
With the colder weather well and truly here, we may be noticing our older pets slowing down. Cats are very stoic and hide their pain very well, below are some signs that your cat may be experiencing some Osteoarthritis related pain:
🐱Hesitation to climb stairs
🐱Avoiding jumping up on furniture
🐱Not as playful as they once were
🐱Slower when running

If you think that your cat ticks some of these boxes, then do not hesitate to call the clinic, our vets will work with you to discuss the many ways in which we can help your older animals 🐾

Dental day Merton Park Equine Mountain Trail Obstacle Course!

HORSEY COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT
- EQUINE DENTAL PLUS!
Barkly Street Vets (Dr Jade) will be at MERTON PARK on the 27th of July 2023.
Is your horse due for the Dentist, a Health Check and a Sheath Clean? Why not get it all done at once! Including sedation the cost of above is $130.00 plus divided travel fee amongst participants. (Total travel $108.00 with up to 15 places available) eg 15/$108 = $7.60. 10/$108.00 = $10.80.
Hosting: An additional charge of $10 per horse including Yard/Stable or paddock during your stay- You may stay for the procedures or just drop him/her off and I will stand in for you. This fee is independent of Veterinary Fees payable to Merton Park. Tea & Coffee will be provided.
If it is raining and/or overly windy the procedures will be done in stables and horses rotated accordingly as sedation wears off.
Timing not right? You may also choose to drop your horse off the day before and collect Thursday evening, Friday or Saturday by arrangement. contact Merton Park directly (Lynne Murray). Ph 0408 393 035
Dr Jade will be Starting at 9:30am Thursday 27th July and has positions available for up to 15 Horses. Some places are already booked.

🐾Did you know that 80% of dogs over the age of 8 years old, and potentially up to 35% of dogs of all ages have arthritis.
🐾Arthritis is often considered to be a disease of old age, however unfortunately it can occur in dogs of any age.
🐾Arthritis is commonly and mistakenly described as a disease of the cartilage of a joint. It is in fact a disease that affects all structures within the joint, and if left unmanaged, it can lead to complete joint failure.
🐾If you think that your dog is showing signs of arthritis, call the clinic to book an appointment!

Autumn Equine Special! Free cushings testing!

Signs of Cushings disease in horses include:
🍂 increased coat length and delayed shedding of the winter coat
🍂 laminitis
🍂 lethargy
🍂 increased sweating
🍂 weight loss and excessive drinking and urinating
The disease primarily affects those over the age of 10, with 19 being the average age at diagnosis

Faecal egg counts are important for horse management, and the prevention of worming drench resistance! 🪱
