IT's on again! BAWCS is delighted to be partnering with our friends at Regional Community Vet Clinic for another pop up cat desexing clinic.

DEETS
By popular demand - from the humans, not the felines - we are back in Huntly on Sunday 28th April for another pop-up cat de-sexing day, in conjunction with our friends from Bendigo Animal Welfare & Community Services

Desexing is available to anyone who is the recipient of a government support payment and holding a valid concession card.

Where possible, we are asking for a donation of $35 per cat to cover our costs; the de-sexing will also include a microchip to ensure your friend can be reunited with you if they happen to find themselves in trouble.

If you or someone you know could use this service and would like to book, please call us on 0493447394 ASAP as spaces are strictly limited.

Many people who may benefit from our service don’t necessarily have access to the internet or social media, so please spread the word in your community about this great opportunity to help reduce the number of unwanted litters in your area.

🥜 When serving nuts (except macadamia), grind them to make them more bioavailable. This super healthy fat is best served every now and then in smaller amounts for dogs who do not have challenges with higher-fat foods.

🐟 Tinned fish is higher in histamines, dogs with allergies may have reactions to such foods, you can learn more here: https://www.freshfoodtribe.com/low-histamine

When choosing tinned fish, select ones in olive oil or spring oil. Avoid ones in "oil", "oil blend" and "tomato sauce".

Tuna should be an every now and then addition due to a higher mercury score.

Feed one of these each day next week to give your dog a super boost of nutrients and an enriching meal of flavours and smells.

🥚Eggs - raw, poached or boiled are fine.
🐠Canned or fresh fish
🥗Leftovers that are safe for dogs i.e. no onion
🫙Greek/natural yogurt - full fat, no additives
🥩Meat!
🎃 Pumpkin, cooked - great for fibre for dogs who have hard poos or need help with a**l glands.
🥥Oil - Rotating through a variety of oils such as Coconut oil, MCT oil, Olive oil, Salmon Oil, Hempseed oil, Flaxseed oil etc - a common sense approach to how much to give - start with just a little bit.
🫀Hearts - chicken, lamb and beef are generally fairly accessible at supermarkets and butchers.
🥛Kefir - a fermented milk product, make your own or buy it.

Did you know that Poodles were/are a breed with a job and their coat is shaved into that pattern for a reason?

".....The breed originated as a water dog, and was traditionally shaved down to increase its speed in the water, except for a few vital areas – including the chest and joints – where hair was left to keep them warm."

The ANKC go on to say "The theory is that for a dog retrieving ducks in cold water, the hair left on the body keep the shoulders and internal organs warm while the shaved areas free the dog up to swim better. Gradually the hair left on the joints gets longer as well."
