Lean dogs are healthy dogs. People often think they need to feed their dog to show affection, which can lead to overweight dogs. Having a lean dog can increase the life span of your dog, lower their chances of hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis, as well as taking the pressure off joints and reduce chronic conditions such as heart disease.
Your dog should have a visible waistline when looking from above. When running your hands down their ribs, you should be able to feel their ribs a little. Too much rib is underweight, if you can barely feel ribs, they may be overweight. Remember if you're giving your dog treats throughout the day, you need to lessen the amount you're feeding them at meal time🐾🐾

🐰Happy Easter!!🐰

Please remember that chocolate is toxic to dogs, so make sure it is kept away from them. If you're doing an Easter egg hunt, make sure all eggs are accounted for before letting your pets back into the area and the choccies are kept safe out of reach!🍫
I hope everyone has an amazing holiday, spends time with loved ones, and has fun!

It is so common for people to come home and make a big deal about seeing their pups.
Everyone is excited to see each other, and you give them lots of pats and attention. But did you know this could be creating separation anxiety in your pup? As well as teaching them, it is ok to act all crazy when they see you. Instead, you want to make it seem like no big deal. Come home and ignore them. Put the groceries away, make a coffee, whatever it is you normally do. And when your pup is calm, then interact with them.
Teach them that when you leave, and when you come back, it's no big deal. It's nothing to get overly anxious or worried about. It just happens. This will make for a calmer dog without separation anxiety and will make it easier for you to leave the house and come home🐾🐾

🐾Recall🐾
Teaching your dog recall is one of the most important things you can teach them. You want them to come back as soon as they're called, and the first time they're called. Always make sure they are on lead until you are 100% sure they will come back 100% of the time. Be sure to practise on lead in areas where you can build up their distraction levels over time, and they shouldn't be let off lead until you can recall them from another dog, person, animal etc. If you don't think they'll listen, then they need to stay on lead. Invest in a long lead if you want to give them more room to roam but have that peace of mind knowing they can't get too far away.

A lot of people have trouble getting their dogs to stop pulling on the lead during a walk, and I've got a few tips and tricks for that.
The biggest tip is the way you leave the house. Try to remain calm, grab your dogs' lead, and clip it to your dog when calm.
A lot of people will hype their dog up when going for a walk. Saying "walkies" in a high tone and getting overly excite and over stimulating their dog. Remain calm, and don't leave the house until your dog is calm. It will start the walk off on a calmer note and make it a lot more pleasant!

Teething puppies!🦷🐾
All pups will grow their puppy teeth, then lose them. Then, grow their adult teeth. This can hurt, just like in babies.
Pigs' ears and bully sticks are a great long-lasting treat to give your pup while teething. Allowing them to chew the treat to help with the pain. When they try to chew your hands or shoes, give them one of these instead to help the pain and teach them not to chew on things they shouldn't!🐶

It is such a beautiful day to be outside working with this gorgeous girl! Scarlett is only 7 months old, and we're working on her reactivity with other animals, bikes, and people running. Working to socialise her to other things in the world and teaching her manners and how to behave around things she is unsure of. 💥Dangers of Xylitol💥
Xylitol is poisonous to dogs. It can be life threatening but is contained in some of our food.
It can be found in some peanut butters, baked goods, ketchup, drinking powders, toothpaste, BBQ sauce, etc.
It can cause vomiting, weakness, tremors, and even seizures. Before giving your dogs any human food, be sure to check the ingredients and make sure it doesn't contain Xylitol🐾🐾

People often tell me they don't always have time to train their puppy or dog. I understand life gets busy sometimes, and we can't always set out a set time to do training with our dogs. But remember, there are so many ways we're training our dogs throughout the day without a set of training time. For example:

🐾When letting your dog in or out of a door, teach them to wait until commanded. Not only does this stop them rushing through the door, but also is used for safety. If you leave your front door open, it's nice to know the dog won't come out unless given the ok

🐾Before giving your dog treats or toys, make sure they give you eye contact first. This will teach them that everything great happens when they give you their attention.

🐾When you're having dinner or watching tv, give your dog a place command. This could be on their bed, or a mat, to teach them they need to be in their place and calm.

🐾When feeding them their meal, make sure they are sitting and calm before putting the bowl down.

There are plenty of little things we do with our dogs that are training throughout the day. Even if you don't realise it

Following on from my post yesterday about the benefits of crate training.. here are some tips to get your puppy crate trained. Remembering it can take a few weeks to have your pup crate trained, hang in there, as its worth it!

🐾Always make the crate a positive area. Never use it as punishment

🐾For the first few days, feed them their meals in the crate with the door open, so they can come out when finished. For the next few days, close the door, and when they finish eating, leave them in there for a minute before opening it, slowly increas the time.

🐾Give them long-lasting treats while in the crate. Such as pigs ears, and bully sticks. Treats that they enjoy, they will help with teething but also make the crate a positive place

🐾Never let the pup out while barking or sooking. If you let them out while barking, they will learn all they have to do it bark, and they'll be let out. Wait until they stop barking, even for a few seconds, then let them out

🐾Some pups may bark while in the crate. If you know they have been to the toilet and had a drink then they are fine, just putting up a fight, so ignore the barking and they will eventually stop

🐾Give them a command such as bed or crate, when going into the crate. Being sure to use a lure to encourage the pup to go in.. Aswell as giving them a command to come out of the crate. They should learn to wait in the crate until you give them the command. This will teach them to be calm while entering and exiting the crate.

🐾If they wake up in the night to toilet, take them outside to toilet, give them a little drink, then put them back in the crate

🐾Dogs like it to feel like a den, so covering the crate in a dark, breathable material will help create that feeling. Be sure it isn't getting too hot in there

🐶Crate training🐶
There are so many benefits to crate training your dogs. All my pups start crate training the day I get them.

🐾Nap time - Often, as pups, they become over tired and refuse to sleep, just like babies. They will start nipping and become very rough with play. Having a crate is like a babies cot. Place the pup in the crate and let them self settle and have a nap.

🐾Safety - They have their own place and feel safe in there. Its also piece of mind your dog isn't chewing and eating things they shouldn't of a night time, and if any family members get up in the middle of the night, you know they arent going to trip over the dog.

🐾Toileting - It helps with toilet training. When your dog is in their crate they won't be using your house to toilet in, so no searching for hidden "surprises" and it will help them associate with toileting outside.

🐾An Escape - Our everyday life can be chaotic and loud. Between kids running around, guests coming over, housework, etc. Having a dog crate gives them their own personal space, their own den. If they are becoming anxious or overwhelmed, they have their own space that is just theirs where they can go to and feel calm.

🐾Vets and groomers - If your dog has to visit the vet or the groomer, chances are they will be put in a crate. Already having them crate trained means they will be ok going into the crates, and they won't have any added stress by going into a crate in another location.

🐶Crate training takes time and is quite easy to do. Some dogs respond to it straight away, and others need a bit more time. But giving them their own personal dens really helps with stress and anxiety 🐶

Myotherapy can have so many benefits for your older dogs!
As you start to see them slowing down, looking a little sore, having trouble standing, etc, myotherapy can help to relieve some of that pain, get the blood flowing to the muscles, help with arthritic pain and improve their movement. As well as making them feel better and improve their quality of life in those last years, months, weeks, or days!
