It's not just dogs and cats who find themselves in need of new homes...
Sonic the guinea pig, and Fuzzy and Marshmallow the sheep, were all found lost this month and no one came forward to claim them, so they are now looking for new homes.

Found lost and wandering around Axedale, this pair was brought into BARCs care today.
Sadly, neither has a microchip. So all we can do is sit and wait and pray that their owners come looking for them.

Murphy is looking for a Foster Carer - could it be you? Or someone you know?
Murphy is sweet, gentle, and full of smiles. But he also has a shy and nervous side and needs to build his confidence.
From what we can establish, Murphy was abandoned in the home when his owners left, but didn't take Murphy with them 😔 We don't know his exact age, but our vets estimate him to be about 1 year old.
We don't know his breed, but he is the perfect small-big dog size at 20kg.
Murphy likes the other dogs he meets at the shelter, and may be suited to a foster home with other dogs pending a positive introduction.

Fostering can be done for ANY duration of time - There is no time commitment required. And of course Foster Carers get the first opportunity to adopt any pet they may foster, so there is no need to be concerned about falling in love with that smile :)

While we had a wonderful weekend at BARC with over 14 animals adopted into new homes, dear Choko here unfortunately wasn't one of them ...
Choko has just turned one year old, and loves the company of people as well as meeting other dogs. Kelpies make fantastic pets, showing devotion and loyalty to their families. As working dogs, they do have higher exercise requirements than some other breeds of dog, but their eagerness to learn makes for a highly rewarding partnership - and we don't doubt for a second that Choko is going to be anything but!

Rahnni and Sukina are a petite duo who are looking to find a new home together.
It's just as well these young ladies weigh in at under 3 kilos, because that means there is plenty of room on your lap for both of them to cuddle up 🥰🥰
These ladies are highly affectionate and absolutely love people, with them both running to greet you at the door to their room when you approach.

"Farmer Joe" is super excited that BARC will be at the Kangaroo Flat Dog Park tomorrow morning providing FREE MICROCHIPS to more of Bendigo's dogs!
Where: Allingham Street Dog Park, Kangaroo Flat
When: 9am to 10.30am Wednesday 12th February
Why: To provide FREE microchips and information on registering your pet, among other things!
Farmer Joe understands how important microchips are. Unfortunately his owners didn't get him one, which means that when he went missing from home a week ago, we were unable to contact anyone to tell them where he was 😞
Our Team can also help owners check that their microchip details are correct - and as a whopping 60% of microchips on our last dog park visit where out of date, we can't express how important this is!
We look forward to meeting you and your dogs tomorrow!

We love it when pets like Daisy here are microchipped and registered with Council - it means that when Daisy walked through our doors this afternoon after being found trotting down the street, we were able to contact her owner and Daisy was collected in less than 30 minutes and there was NO CHARGE to her owners!
FREE RECALIMS are just another benefit of getting your pet registered with Council.
This Wednesday morning our team will be heading out to Allingham Street Dog Park to help more Bendigo residents get their dogs microchipped and registered!

It's Velas fifth day with us, and we have loved getting to know this little lady!
During the day Vela is out socialising with other dogs and pups, or spending time with our Animal Care Team, and during the night Vela is given interactive toys to help keep her occupied!
One of Vela's favourites is a kong stuffed with special puppy dry food and sealed with mince and peanut butter - this keeps her busy for quite a while!

Lexi is 3 and half, she would be happy as an only dog (with lots of human attention) or with a suitable doggy companion.

They girl is absolutely delightful, just look at how responsive she is to her carer - always stopping to return to him when she realised he had stopped walking and was no longer with her 🥰 What a sweetie.

The weather is getting warm again! So we are seeking DONATIONS OF OLD CLAM SHELL POOLS you may have in the back of the yard which you no longer need!
We love ensuring all our dogs have access to clam shells full of water on these warm days - it's a great way for them to cool down, not to mention many of them just love playing in the water for fun!
Unfortunately we can not collect donations from people's homes, but donations can be dropped off at our shelter 20 Piper Lane East Bendigo.
