We got a wonderful update this week on a cat named Pooh Bear, who was adopted from BARC last year, as he tests out a new tunnel system that is going to be incorporated into his catio!
Despite being a senior boy, Pooh Bear's loving owner has successfully trained him to walk on a harness so that he can enjoy adventures out of the yard, and is even planning a camping trip with him later the in year! We think Pooh Bear will love this experience, and we can't wait to receive an update after his camping trip!

Happy birthday Bongo!
Recently, Bongo’s owner shared this video with us to celebrate her birthday, and we loved it so much we wanted to share it with you all 🥰
Occasionally, you will see we have pets who are available on a foster-to-adopt program, Bongo was one of these pets. Her carer loved her from the start, and she loved him. Now, 6 months down the track, Bongo is living her best life. She has grown in confidence and is no longer the timid pup that went to foster, but rather is a bundle of energy who appreciates her new family each and every day.
Bongo’s owners said “She is our world!” Well, we think they are her world too 🧡🖤🧡

Elly here is suffering from a condition known as puppy carpal laxity syndrome, a result of malnutrition in rapidly growing large breed puppies.
Often the result of “back yard breeding,” we have sadly seen more puppies in Bendigo with this condition in the last 12 months, than in the 3 years prior, as large breeds like Bull Arabs become increasingly popular.
Thankfully, the people who purchased this little girl identified that there was something not quite right and brought her to us. Elly is now with a foster carer receiving adequate nutrition and therapy to help her make strong recovery.
Bull Arab crosses are one of the most common breeds we see across Victorian Shelters and Rescues. They make wonderful family pets, and often end up at the shelter because they simply “grow to big.”
If looking to buy a puppy, please ensure the breeder is a registered member of a Kennel Society or a registered Domestic Animal Business. Be sure you view the parents, to understand what size the pup may grow to.
Better still – Adopt.

Meet Sheba! My gosh this cat has so much sass! We absolutely love her.
Sheba loves her food (and it shows) almost as much as she loves being the center of attention.
Sheba has an aversion to other cats - she refuses to share her humans. She may get along with a cat friendly dog (and by "get along" we mean "be the boss").
Sheba is one of a couple of "senior" cats we have available for adoption at the moment for the low adoption price of $25.
