We have cats that need home....🏡
We have halved the adoption fee....but as of yet none have been adopted....😢😢
So now we are staying open LATE TOMORROW NIGHT - until 5.45pm - to allow for more people to come meet our cats!

BARC is still HALVING THE ADOPTION FEE of all adult cats as we are get close to Christmas, as we believe that every cat should have the opportunity to climb a Christmas tree and knock the baubles to the floor! 🎄🎁

Vela got adopted 🥰
As predicted, it didn't take long for this sweet pup to be adopted into a loving home!
BARC still has several other pups available for aodption. Our website is live and lists all the animals available for adoption from BARC - cats, dogs, puppies, kittens and anything else we may have seeking a new home!

The weather is getting HOT! Do you know what you need to do to keep your pets cool?
🏠 Bring your pet indoors, especially during the hottest part of the day.
💧 Ensure there is always access to fresh clean water - if your pet is unattended you should ensure there are several water sources available.
🐕Walk your dog in the early morning when its cool - the evenings are often still quite warm and concrete too hot.
🌳 Ensure your outdoor animals have access to plenty of shade and cooler areas.
🚿 A misting system is useful for keeping poultry and birds cool, and some animals such as horses may love receiving a hose down!
🌊 Dogs and some other pets may appreciate access to a paddle pool of water.
🚗 NEVER leave your pet alone in a car, and if you must transport your pet, ensure the car has cooled to a reasonable temperature before placing them inside. Remember dogs on utes must have a rubber mat if on a metal tray.
☀ Make yourself familiar with the signs of heatstroke for your pet. Heatstroke is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY and requires immediate action and Veterinary Support.

With everyone wanting to adopt kittens, out dear adult cats aren't garnishing much attention....so they all struck a pose to try to get your interest, and to help them out we have lowered our CAT ADOPTION price to $60 for adult cats!
All of our cats are microchipped, vaccinated, des*xed, vet-checked, and included in the $60 adoption FREE is a free months access to Petcademy behaviour and training support as well as FREE council registration (for Bendigo residents).

We have been inundated with questions about the breeding of the 8 delightful puppies that come into our care last week - and after some investigation we can now share with you what we know!
Dad is a Staghound mix (left) and mum is a working Koolie type (center). We predict the pups will mature between 20 and 25kg, but some of the boys may get a little bigger.
This breeding indicates that the pups will be social, energetic, loyal, and very intelligent.
Remember that we are open LATE THIS FRIDAY giving you the opportunity to come and meet the pups after work should you be considering adding a a four legged family member to your home!

Vela has undergone her spay surgery and now, like all animals that are adopted from BARC, is des*xed!
All cats and dogs adopted from BARC and other Victorian pounds and shelters must be vaccinated, des*xed, and microchipped.

It's Velas fifth day with us, and we have loved getting to know this little lady!
During the day Vela is out socialising with other dogs and pups, or spending time with our Animal Care Team, and during the night Vela is given interactive toys to help keep her occupied!
One of Vela's favourites is a kong stuffed with special puppy dry food and sealed with mince and peanut butter - this keeps her busy for quite a while!

Today Vela had her behavioural assessment at BARC, so we can determine the type of home that would suit her needs best.
Vella gets along very well with other well socialised dogs, and has started spending time at BARC in a playgroup. She can find larger dogs or rough playing dogs a little intimidating, but this may improve as Vela grows in confidence.
Vela is very responsive to her handler, always looking to please, and is quickly picking up commands like 'sit' 'heel' and 'wait.'
We will continue to get to know Vela better over the next few days before making her available of adoption.

Introducing Staffy mix Brothers Wade and Wilson!
When DEADPOOL heard he had not one but two namesakes out at BARC, he decided to pop out for a visit and meet the adorable due.
Older brother Wade is not quite 1 year old, and is more shy out of the two. He would be well suited to a calmer type of home, with someone who has lots of cuddles to give!
Wilson is younger at only 12 weeks - and he is ready to take on the world - nothing bothers this little guy! The only time he stops wriggling is when he is snuggling under the blankets for a snooze.
Both have lived with young children, are friendly with other dogs, and are available to meet their new family now!

Today was Vela's third day with us, and she is doing very well!
Vela loves her toys, including her Nylabone which helps with her teething. Vela is fed a diet specially designed for a growing pup, ensuring she gets all the nutrition she requires . To turn food time into a bit of a game, we are feeding Vela from a "slow feeder" which makes her use her mind a little as she figures out how to get the food out of the bowl!
Vela has been going for walks and has started learning some basic commands - such as sit and wait for food as shown in the middle photo!

Not long after her arrival at BARC, Vela received her vet check.
She was provided a vaccination schedule, weighed, and treated for fleas and worms.
Our vet team gave her a physical examination and found her to be in excellent health! Vela's adult teeth are starting to come through, so our kennels team will be providing her with lots of suitable chew toys to help her manage the discomfort this may cause.
Bella is settling in well and showing lots of confidence today - we can't wait to spend more time with Vela and put that smart Border Collie brain to the test with some training!
