PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT
We've been informed that our practice of putting chocolate into Auntie Kate's chook food over Easter might lead to an outbreak of Early April disease in poultry.
This disease generally comes on around Easter time and is due to over consumption of chocolate.
Symptoms include colored eggs being laid and chickens walking 'like a bunny'.
At this point we are not considering a product recall but would urge caution over feeding chocolate to chooks.
If you are feeding scraps and have a choice of chocolate or apple and cinnamon hot cross buns - go with apple...

Please note this a precautionary message.
Today your birds are particularly at risk but note the symptoms only last 24 hours.

Thank you for your attention and please pass it on and share this vital health information.

Please consider the future of aviculture when you vote.

The Animal Justice Party (AJP) exists to further the philosophy of animal rights. Animal rights OPPOSES pets, animal welfare CARES for pets.

Therefore the AJP OPPOSES pets. We CARE for pets.

Do NOT be misled by AJP rhetoric and obfuscation.

We're down to our last skerricks of grey stripe sunflower - rationing remaining stock into our range of parrot mixes, Troppo Blue
We've been forced to limit straight line Grey Stripe and Parrot Blue sales.

The good news is harvest is looming - this crop one of the earliest to ripen and we hope that by mid February - if the weather gods smile on these growers - we'll be back in full production

Appreciate your patience

On a side note - would mention that by shandying in some black sunflowers into mixes we've been able to manage our stocks and keep mix production going.
Oilseed sunflower is about 5-7% higher in oil then grey stripe so this needs to be managed with some care but our view is that a small % of blacks into some mixes is a viable alternative to simply running out if and when grey stripes get short.

We had to stop Parrot Blue production as grey stripe is a high % of the mix
We felt it better to stop production than compromise the quality of the Parrot Blue mix by adding alot of blacks in. This may have had an impact on birds?

We're wondering if anyone has noticed any issues with their birds during this period.

ok - thx to all

A recent visitor to factory.

Very welcome until this Macaw requested modelling royalties for the Troppo bag design.

Implied that our payments thus far were chicken feed🤔

Looking back at the archives on our previous attempts at rat control systems.

product alert.

Please be aware there may be live snakes in your bags of Avigrain. We keep pythons and other snakes around our warehouse to keep rats away - but our young snakes all disappeared late last week.
Someone reported a bag with a python in it so we're thinking they may have got into the mixer somehow.

Might have to recall everything? But please - before opening a bag of Avigrain maybe check to see if it's moving or feels - well - feels like it might have a snake inside.
Most are diamond pythons but our red belly blacks are gone too?

thx

You may have noticed grey stripe sunflower is in short supply.

In order to continue birdseed production we have had to tweak some Avigrain mixes, adding a small% of black sunflower
We are also rationing straight greys to our regular customers
For a time we stopped making Parrot Blue ( a decision made easier when we ran out of pawpaw ... held up at the wharf)
Parrot Blue is back on the menu now.

We are able to maintain supply when other manufacturers cannot because Avigrain actively manages the production risk that comes with climate change.

We have never seen the current circumstance which is what you might call a wet drought.
It's been too wet to farm!!!

We had growers contracted to plant early grey stripes in different growing areas but none were able to plant due to unseasonal rain and flooding from the vurrent La Nina. So we are now sweating on a successful late crop.

Good news is greys are coming and we exoect to see new supply in Feb March 2023.

Until then we'll make do and thank you for your support and understanding of our decision to include blacks in the mixes.

Finally

Merry xmas from Avigrain

So back to old school
Swift Pigeon Mix - "seed that delivers"
It's the same stuff ...
The bag container is on the water but lead times for freight - and costs - have blown out dramatically.
We were also waiting on key ingredients for troppo and parrot blue so some areas may have seen delays and stock out there too.
Tough times in freight
thx for your understanding

recommends feeding not just seed but a wide variety of foods for optimum avian health and well-being.
This meeting promises to explore these options.

From the FSA president Maddy Fish
"The meeting will feature a round table discussion on soft food and other foods for your birds. If anyone would like to help lead this discussion and say a few points on how/what they feed their birds please let me know. Or come to the meeting with a few points in mind or some questions ready to ask"
