Green Paws Animal Sanctuary

Green Paws Animal Sanctuary Animal Rescue & Home based Boarding

📍Berrima, Blackett & The Blue Mountains We are not a shelter and we do not use cages or kennels.

We have two sanctuaries located in Blackett (Sydney) and Berrima (Southern Highlands). Both locations have a number of animals that have been rescued from various situations and are now permanent residents. We work with a small group of volunteers who foster kittens/cats, livestock, bunnies, puppies/dogs and birds until they are healthy and ready for their forever homes. We work closely with a few

local pounds by taking in long term residents and animals struggling to cope in a pound environment and placing them in loving foster homes. A large number of our rescue animals have had an unknown past. Their age, breed and history may not be correct. We base all our information off of the previous owners papers/ information or if microchipped, the microchip information. We have all our animals checked by the professionals at one of our vet partners. We couldn’t do what we do without the help of the incredible veterinarians and staff at the below practices:
Rossmore Veterinary Hospital
Southern Highlands Vet

If we are at capacity and cannot accept any new surrenders we can place your animal on a waiting list or offer our assisted rehoming program. Waiting lists can take weeks to months to get through but our assisted rehoming program can be done instantly. We post the animal to our social media platforms and have interested families contact you directly. The animal must be desexed and microchipped. Feel free to message us on Facebook or email us if you have any enquires. We ask that you please be patient while waiting for a response as we are a very small team of volunteers, although you can rest assured that we are working hard to get back to you and will respond as soon as we can.

🐾 Meet Tuxedo (aka Roadie) – Your New Best Friend! 🐾

Location: Southern Highlands or Sydney
Name: Tuxedo (we call her Roadie)
Age: 8 months
S*x: Female
Breed: Kelpie x Border Collie x Red Heeler

✅ Desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and flea/tick/worm treated
Microchip Number: 9991003002854454

Roadie is the last pup from an accidental litter of 10 looking for her forever home. She has some light facial scarring from a sibling who was a little too rough during playtime when they were younger, but it doesn’t bother her one bit. Her entire litter, along with both parents, have since been desexed, and we commend the owners for doing the right thing for all 12 dogs.

Roadie is a sweet, soft-tempered cuddle bug who absolutely adores her humans. She can be a little shy with new people and new dogs at first but warms up super fast. She loves playing with other dogs, chasing balls (though bringing them back is optional!), and being part of the action. She’s happiest when she’s with her people—whether that’s on a farm, in the yard, or just hanging out inside.

Farm Dog Material? Absolutely!
Since joining us at our Berrima sanctuary a few days ago, she’s thrived around other dogs and enjoys learning from them. While she’s not too interested in working sheep or goats, she’s incredible around poultry and prefers to stick by your side for whatever farm chores (or couch lounging) you have planned.

Child Friendly? YES, she would love a home with kids to play with!
Dog Friendly? YES, she would love a fur sibling.
Cat Friendly? Yes, currently living with 6 cats.
Toilet Trained? Yes
Walks Well on Leash? Learning. She is amazing off-leash, with incredible recall.
Escape Artist? Oh yeah! Classic Kelpie/Cattle Dog mix—she’ll find her way to you, not away from you.
Obedience Trained? Still learning. She learn quick , is super smart and eager to please.
Food Aggressive? No.
Toy Aggressive? No.

Roadie is truly special, and we are completely in love with her. We can’t wait to find her a home where she’ll be just as adored as she is here!

🐾 Foster-to-Adopt Homes Needed! 🐾

Location - Currently all pups are at our Sydney Sanctuary (Blackett, 2770) but can be transported to Berrima for anyone who lives in the Southern Highlands.

Another “right place at the right time” moment for us… One of our team members was at BARC recently when someone walked in carrying a tub of tiny puppies they claimed to have found on the side of the road. While we have a strong feeling they weren’t actually dumped, the reality is, it didn’t matter—these babies had nowhere to go.

BARC is bursting at the seams, with dogs filling every available space, even staff rooms and offices. So, despite not being in a position to take in more animals, we couldn’t turn our backs on them. Unfortunately, their mum wasn’t surrendered, and we can only hope she’s been desexed and won’t be forced to have more litters—but we’re not holding our breath. Please stop breeding your dogs, we are all overwhelmed!

Now, these little ones need foster-to-adopt homes to help them continue their journey. They are not available for immediate adoption, but this is a chance to be part of their early life and transition them into their forever homes.

✅ 7–8 weeks old
✅ Health checked
✅ Had their first vaccine (second is in 2 week)
✅ Regularly wormed
✅ Parvo negative
✅ Eating and drinking independently

Three of the puppies are thriving and starting to show their cheeky personalities. We are seeking three foster-to-adopt homes where they can continue to grow in a loving environment. Breed is unknown.

If you’re interested in fostering one of these adorable boys, please send us a message!

We wanted to make a quick post to thank the incredible few people who donated food/ toys to both our Berrima Sanctuary and our Sydney Sanctuary. We are honestly so blown away by your generosity and kindness. Without incredible members of the public like yourselves we couldn’t do what we do. So thank you thank you thank you!! This food will make such a huge difference and puts us in a position where we can take in more animals in desperate need. 🐾

If you’re wondering how you can help, here are a few options:
💚 Like and share our posts of animals needing foster homes or forever homes.
💚 Become a foster carer!!
https://greenpawscentre.weeblysite.com/donatevolunteer
💚 Our home based boarding centre in Berrima is how we can afford to rescue animals. Without the boarding, we can’t rescue. So if you’re going away or want your pup socialised, book them in for a holiday. We love meeting new fur faces. We also offer home visits in the Blue Mountains area now! https://greenpawscentre.weeblysite.com/boarding-centre
💚 Donations. We love when people donate food, toys, bedding etc as that means our funds can go towards paying off our never ending vet bills or you can donate directly to our current GoFundMe. We are trying to raise funds to help towards building secure fencing and dog runs. https://gofund.me/7f1d108c

Thank you all for your continued support over the years! Donations like this are what keep us going. The rescue world can be very tough at times but knowing how much you all care means more than you will ever know 🥰

We have two gorgeous little beans who are FINALLY ready for their forever homes. Last year in September we took a pregnant mum cat in and a day later she gave birth. Poor mum was very young and very underweight. Nikita who runs our Sydney Sanctuary poured her heart into this litter, and helped mum by bottle feeding on the side. All the kittens from this litter are still very small hence why we have had to wait so long to desex them.

Location - Sydney or The Southern Highlands

Name - Casabel (Grey Tabby) and Bell (Tabby)
S*x - Female
Age - 19 weeks old
Breed - Domestic long hair
Both girls are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and flea/worm treated.
Microchips - 991003003022199 & 991003003074381

Both these girls are super confident and friendly. They have been raised around big dogs, cats and lots of kiddos. We would love to adopt them out to families with an existing cat but they are so confident that they would be happy on their own too. Whoever adopts these girls will be very lucky! Bambi is ready for her forever home 💚 (as much as i don’t want to let her go).
this sooky sweetheart started out as the feistiest diva who would hiss and spit whenever I came near her. at only a few hundred grams, she was severely malnourished, flea-ridden, and her eyes were so gunky she couldn’t see a thing! she hated my guts for wrestling her into a flea bath and medicating her every day. and she knew how to hold a grudge! i was her least favourite person in the house for weeks.
fast forward to now - she’s bounding around the house, wrestling the cats, and dominating the dog. she twirls and squeaks and follows you around ever so curiously. she goes crazy for her toys, and purrs like no tomorrow when you let her cuddle up next to you. she’ll wake you up with kisses and wants to be the centre of attention.
i already want to cry writing this - whoever gets to love you forever Bambi will be the luckiest person i know! If you think that could be you, please send us a DM, so we can arrange a meet and greet and go from there 💕

UPDATE: Wincy, Alfie and Possum now have fosters! These 3 are now safe. The 7 year old Maremma still needs a foster!

‼️‼️ Foster carers needed ‼️‼️

Location - Sydney or The Southern Highlands

We recently visited Liverpool Animal Shelter and met a few of their pound dogs. We would love to break some of these babies out of jail. But we need your help!

Wincy, 6 month old Maremma - Wincy is terrified in the pound and not coping. He instantly gave our volunteer kisses through his cage and was acting like a typical 6 month old pup. He will need time to decompress. We preferably want him to go to a foster with a bit of property so we can slowly expose him to livestock and poultry. We have no history on this guy so not sure if he has had any farm experience before.

Alfie, Cocker Spaniel - Our hearts broke for Alfie. This guy was found in the worst condition imaginable. The incredible team at the pound were able to shave him down without sedation because he’s so damn great! This guy is so gentle and sweet.

There was also a beautiful 7 year old male Maremma who has the best temperament ever! Chill, cool, calm and collected. We would love to save him too and give him the forever home he deserves. We also have no history so are unsure if he has been exposed to livestock and poultry.

We also still have 9 year old Possum the female Alaskan Klee Kai. Fun fact: Possum was the very first Alaskan Klee Kai that was brought to Australia! She has had a number of litters the poor gal so is in need of a retirement home. She is a bit timid at times so would prefer a quiet household but is confident and loving to the people she knows. She gets along with other dogs and loves giving kisses and having a cuddle.

If you would like to help please please reach out! The pounds are overflowing and we would love to help these guys make it out! Send us a message if you can help 🐾

Fosters needed! 🐾

Location - Sydney or The Southern Highlands

3 x kittens still needing foster homes! All these babies are 8 weeks old and needing a foster for the next month until they are ready for adoption.

Cruiser is in need of a new foster home. While his current foster home love him, he’s a bit too much for the young kiddos. Cruiser has previously lived with 4 young boys all under 8 and was great with them, so he’s great around kids if they are dog savvy! He LOVES other dogs and will thrive with a dog mate. He’s got lots of energy and acts like a typical 1 year old lab puppy.

Message us if you can help out!

We urgently need foster homes for a few sweet babies we have in care currently 🐶🐈

Location - Sydney or The Southern Highlands

Cruiser - 1 year old Labrador. He’s currently at our Sydney Sanctuary and has been great with all the cats, dogs and kids. He’s very adaptable and loving with LOTS of energy! He will fit well into most homes as long as you’re prepared for a typical Lab puppy. Cruiser is VERY small for his breed, due to malnutrition and not having the best start to life.

Piquillo - 8 week old, fluffy tabby male kitten.

Pasila - 8 week old, all black female kitten.

Serano - 8 week old, black and silver male kitten.

We would love the kittens to go to foster homes in pairs or with an existing cat. Message us if you’re able to help out!

Looking for a foster to adopt home for Albert 🐾
Location - Sydney or The Southern Highlands

Albert, 1 year old Male Labrador - Great with people and other dogs and was great with the cat he lived with for the first 10 months of his life. Very friendly and great socially with other dogs, however, can be very boisterous and over excited with them. He has great recall! Needs a lot of attention, stimulation and exercise as extremely energetic and overexcited most of the time.
Would suit a home with another highly energetic young dog or a very patient dog.

Albert is microchipped, vaccinated, desexed & flea/tick/worm treated. Microchip - 991001005602715

If you would like to foster to adopt this gorgeous boy, send us a message!

Myth Buster: Female dogs should have one litter of puppies before they get speyed. 🐶❌

This is a common misconception, but it is not supported by veterinary science. In fact, speying a female dog before her first heat cycle has several significant health benefits. Here are the facts:

Health Benefits: Speying a female dog before her first heat cycle can greatly reduce the risk of mammary (breast) cancer, one of the most common cancers in female dogs. It also prevents uterine infections (pyometra), which can be life-threatening and often require emergency surgery.

Behavioral Benefits: Speying can help reduce unwanted behaviors associated with the heat cycle, such as marking, aggression, and the attraction of male dogs. It also eliminates the stress and inconvenience of managing a dog in heat. 🐾😌

Population Control: By speying your dog, you contribute to controlling the pet population, reducing the number of unwanted puppies that may end up in shelters or rescues. 🏠🐕

No Negative Impact on Development: There is no evidence to suggest that having a litter of puppies provides any health or behavioral benefits to the dog. In fact, pregnancy and childbirth can carry significant risks, especially if complications arise.

Spaying is a responsible choice for pet owners, promoting the well-being of their dogs and helping to address broader animal welfare issues. Feel free schedule an appointment with us to determine the best time to spey your dog, but rest assured that allowing her to have a litter first is not necessary and may even be detrimental. 🌟🐾
