**๐ŸŒž Fleas!!! Protect Your Pets ๐ŸŒž**

With the warmer months upon us, fleas are out in full force, and they can quickly become a problem for both your pets and your home. Fleas are more than just a nuisance; they can lead to itching, skin infections, and even health issues like tapeworms or anemia.

**Why Flea Prevention is Important:**
- Fleas can cause intense itching and discomfort, leading to skin issues and even infections.
- Pets with fleas may develop allergic reactions and lose hair in affected areas.
- Fleas can infest your home, making it harder to get rid of them once theyโ€™re inside.
- Fleas spread quickly between pets, making prevention essential for any multi-pet household.

**How to Recognize Fleas:**
- Excessive scratching, biting, or licking (especially around the tail and belly).
- Red or irritated skin, often with small red bumps or scabs.
- Black flecks or โ€œflea dirtโ€ (flea f***s) in your petโ€™s fur, which looks like black pepper.
- Seeing tiny brown fleas on your petโ€™s skin, especially around the ears and neck.

**We Have Flea Treatments In Stock!**
If you think your pet may have fleas or want to protect them before a problem starts, come by the clinic to pick up effective flea prevention treatments anytime. Our staff can help you choose the best option for your petโ€™s needs.

**๐Ÿšจ Heatstroke Warning for Pets! ๐Ÿšจ**

As the temperatures rise, itโ€™s vital to keep an eye on our furry friends. Heatstroke can quickly turn from dangerous to deadly, especially for pets who are more sensitive to the heat. Hereโ€™s everything you need to know to keep your pet safe!

**Signs of Heatstroke in Dogs:**
- Excessive panting or drooling
- Bright red gums or tongue
- Lethargy, weakness, or staggering
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Collapse or loss of consciousness

**Preventing Heatstroke:**
- ๐Ÿ• Avoid walking or exercising pets during the hottest part of the day (typically between 10 AM and 4 PM).
- ๐Ÿ’ง Always ensure your pet has access to fresh, cool water and shade.
- ๐Ÿ  Keep pets indoors in air-conditioned rooms during extreme heat, especially flat-faced breeds, elderly dogs, and puppies who are more vulnerable.
- ๐Ÿš— Never, ever leave your pet alone in a car, even if itโ€™s just for a few minutes. The temperature inside a car can rise dangerously fast.

**What to Do if You Suspect Heatstroke:**
1. **Move your dog to a cooler area** immediately โ€“ a shaded spot or indoors if possible.
2. **Start cooling them down slowly** using cool (not cold) water, especially around their paws, belly, and neck. Avoid ice-cold water, which can cause shock.
3. **Offer small amounts of cool water** for them to drink, but donโ€™t force them.
4. **Contact us or your nearest vet immediately!** Heatstroke can quickly become life-threatening, so time is critical.

Stay safe, and let's work together to keep our pets cool and healthy this summer! ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿถโค๏ธ If you have any questions or concerns, donโ€™t hesitate to give us a call.

Last week, a very special little patient captured our hearts. A 6-day-old foal came into Callide Valley Vet Clinic, very sick and in need of urgent help. After a thorough check, Dr. Katie discovered the foal had a ruptured bladderโ€”a life-threatening condition.

Dr. Katie didnโ€™t hesitate; she headed out to the farm to perform emergency surgery, giving this little one a fighting chance. Weโ€™re thrilled to share that the foal is now recovering well and on the road to a healthy future! ๐Ÿ’–

Itโ€™s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. ๐Ÿ’• Sending all our love to this brave foal and their wonderful owners for trusting us in this critical time!

๐Ÿ“ข **Attention Pet Owners: Parvo Season Has Begun!** ๐Ÿ“ข

As the weather warms up, parvovirus cases are on the rise, and itโ€™s crucial to keep your furry friends protected. Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease that affects unvaccinated dogs, especially young puppies. Parvo virus can live in the environment for years.

**Who is at Risk?**
- Puppies and young dogs who havenโ€™t completed their full course of vaccinations
- Unvaccinated dogs of all ages
- Dogs with weakened immune systems

**Prevention is Key!**
The best way to prevent parvo is through vaccination. If your dog isnโ€™t up-to-date, they could be at serious risk. Ensure all pups receive their full set of vaccinations and schedule boosters as needed.
While you are waiting for your pup to have their full lot of parvo shots:
-Avoid taking your pup out
-If you take your pup out or into the vet, carry then in your arms
-If you are in contact or in places where there could be parvo virus, change your clothes, take off your shoes and wash your hands when you come home
-Avoid interactions between your pup and unvaccinated dogs

**Watch for Symptoms:**
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- (Bloody) diarrhea
- Lethargy

If you notice any of these signs, contact us immediately as early treatment is critical.

๐Ÿ‘‰ **Call us today on 07 4992 1814 to book your dogโ€™s vaccination** and keep them safe this season!

๐Ÿฆœ **Found a Baby Bird? Hereโ€™s What to Do!** ๐Ÿฆœ

Springtime often brings baby birds into our town, and itโ€™s natural to want to help. But did you know that not all young birds need rescuing? Hereโ€™s how to recognize a fledgling and what you should do if you find one:

**Whatโ€™s a Fledgling?**
- Fledglings are young birds that have left the nest but are not yet strong fliers.
- They may have some fluffy down feathers mixed with adult feathers and are often hopping or flapping about on the ground.

**Why You Shouldnโ€™t Pick Them Up**
- Fledglings are usually *not abandoned*. Their parents are likely nearby, keeping watch and bringing them food. Removing them can disrupt this natural learning stage.

**What To Do if You Find a Fledgling:**
1. **Observe from a Distance:** Give the bird space and time. The parents often come back once the area is quiet.
2. **Keep Pets and Kids Away:** Curious pets and children can be a danger. Kindly guide them away from the fledglingโ€™s area.
3. **Only Intervene if the Bird is in Immediate Danger:** If the bird is on a road or in a very high-traffic area, gently move it to a safer spot nearby, such as under a bush or in a cardboard box in the nearest tree where its parents can still find it.

**When to bring in a fledgling**
- If the bird is visibly injured or is a tiny hatchling (no feathers) it may need expert care. Contact us, and weโ€™ll guide you on what to do next.

Letโ€™s help our local wildlife thrive by respecting their natural development! ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ
