Puppy Un-Chase! training is about creating positive, calm experiences that prevent unwanted chasing and behaviours like lunging and barking.
Yesterday we had a workman come and chop some trees in our yard with a chainsaw.
HARNESS & LONGISH LEAD
Put a harness and a mid-length lead (3 metres) on Clem to take him outside.
ALLOW TIME TO SNIFF
Allowed him to sniff, explore, and approach at his own pace. 🦮✨
WATCH TOGETHER
For safety, I didn’t want Clem getting too close so I ensured we stopped at a safe distance. Then we sat together, and simply watched. 👀
CREATE CALM, POSITIVE EXPERIENCE
Clem found a piece of cardboard to rip up and chew on while he watched.
By exposing your pup to new situations positively and calmly, you're setting the foundation for a well-behaved dog in the future. Think of it as building their confidence and resilience, one calm moment at a time. 🐾💚
Here's a tip to kick off your training sessions with your dog and other pets.
Set your other pet up with some food.
Here’s why it works:
✅ Less movement = less excitement. A stationary pet is way easier for your dog to stay calm around!
✅Good vibes only! Feeding the other pet helps them form positive associations with your dog.
Proactive planning = smooth training sessions! 🎉
🐾 Why Use Barriers in Training Sessions? 🐾
Hank and Frankie are learning to coexist calmly, even when things get exciting! 🐶🐱
In this session, the focus is on teaching Hank to stay calm when Frankie, the cat, zooms around the house. A toy is great for recreating the quick movements!
Barriers help keep things safe and positive, setting everyone up for success!
Barriers are great for keeping pets separated while you are teaching your pets to coexist happily. They’re also a wonderful training tool to keep sessions productive and positive! 🌟
Teach Your Dog to Lie Down Easily!
👉 Notice when your pup naturally lies down.
🍗 Have some tasty treats on hand and position yourself in a spot where they often lie down.
✅ Each time they lie down, reinforce with a treat! Repeat a few times.
After a few repetitions, just before they lie down, add a cue like “Drop.”
