Is It Just Me, or Are Cane Toads Everywhere Right Now?

Cane toads are a serious threat to our pets, especially curious dogs and cats who might try to lick or bite them. These toads release a toxic substance from their glands that can cause severe symptoms like drooling, vomiting, seizures, or even heart failure.

Cane toads are most active during warm, wet weather, especially in the evenings and after heavy rainfall.

If you suspect your pet has had contact with a cane toad, act quickly! Please contact us immediately for emergency care advice. 🐕💙🌿

⚠️ Important Warning: Tick Paralysis in Dogs and Cats ⚠️

We are still seeing an abundance of tick paralysis cases in our local community. Please make sure that your tick prevention is up to date NOW!

Tick paralysis is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that affects both dogs and cats. It is caused by the toxins produced in the saliva of Ixodes holocyclus, and can lead to paralysis, respiratory failure, and, in severe cases, death.

Signs to Watch For:
Weakness or wobbly legs
Difficulty breathing
Drooling or difficulty swallowing
Lethargy or reluctance to move
Change in voice

Seek veterinary care immediately. Even after removing the tick, symptoms may worsen, and professional treatment may be required, including oxygen support or anti-toxin medication.

Prevention Tips:
Use tick prevention products regularly and on time. We have many great prevention options including a 3 monthly tablet and a yearly injection.
Check your pets daily during tick season, especially if they spend time outdoors in grassy or wooded areas.
Keep grass and bushes trimmed to reduce the risk of tick exposure in your yard.
If your pet shows any signs of tick paralysis, do not delay in seeking medical attention. Early intervention can be life-saving!

I had the best surprise today! A teddy was zooming around the yard when I returned to my pet sit this morning! Isn’t he just the cutest ball of fluffy floof you’ve ever seen? Everyone, meet Teddy, the adorable Goldie pup! He’s totally obsessed with my toys and has claimed my big yellow ball 😂—it seems to be a fan favorite with all the dogs! 😆

Took some time to play with Bowser in the dog park while nobody was around 😇🥰 Bowser, is a little ray of sunshine on four tiny paws. Watch as he joyfully run around, his tail wagging like a happy flag. When she flops over for cuddles, you can see how much he is loving it. Such a sweet moment, Bowser reminds us to enjoy the little moments like this in life 🤗

She adores cuddles and hugs, and her favorite trick is giving you her paw to hold. My adorable girl is always eager to please, especially if treats are involved. 🦴

Munro is such a delightful pup and an excellent walker! I've been reinforcing his training during our walks, whilst his mum was injured. The way he bounces along next to me in the perfect heel position is adorable! 😇
