We get two tips today! Because I missed yesterday!! Sorry guys.

Tip 1: Do not be cheap, be choosy, on who you let start your c**ts. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON THEY WILL EVER GO TO! Having a solid foundation let’s me build a strong house.

Often people say “He is too expensive.” “Takes too long.” Whatever the reason and go with a better deal that’s cheaper… but much less quality.

I get horses all the time I have to “restart.” It costs more money the second time, I promise.

If you haven’t had a horse sent off, ask for references. Set out clear expectations, but understand each horse is an individual, I have had horses that accept a rider in minutes, and some that take 30 days before you can even think of it. That part doesn’t always have to do with the trainer.

Don’t just leave your horse… unless you truly trust the people. When I send off a c**t to Kerby, I tell him to call me when they are ready. I don’t know how long that will be lol. He knows the general vicinity of where I need them to start them in my program, and calls me when he feels they are ready for level 2.

I don’t expect to get a c**t back that doesn’t make question climbing on a 2 yr old. 😅 I generally ride them a couple weeks to get comfortable and then turn them out for a break.

I have spent a lot of time wondering how handling or over handling a c**t effects their riding. I like them less handled. When I get them back, I like them pretty feely. I want to bring them down to where I want them. Not have to “pedal” to get any movement from them. I expect them to easily move, break at the poll, and move off the inside rein, I can take them on from there.

I can/have started plenty of c**ts myself, but I feel if you don’t do it all the time, your timing is off and in my opinion that makes it dangerous for both horse and rider. A c**t starter has to be fast, in a slow way.

I appreciate all my c**t starters and am having success behind both Kerby Montgomery and Rodney Yost. This post is to thank them for the time and foundation they have put in my c**ts. They are a solid piece of my program. Thank you guys!
