Happy Vet Nurses Day to all of the incredible nurses in our veterinary community.

Our Practice Coordinator, Natasha, has been a veterinary nurse for 10 years and is the friendly voice you hear on the other end of the phone most days of the week. She loves to chat with our beautiful clients, hear about your pets and provide support in what can be a really hard time for most people.

If you need advice or are struggling to know when it may be time to say goodbye, Natasha is always ready to lend an ear and have a chat.

First of the month means it's time to turn the page on your PUR calendar 🗓

This month we celebrate the life of Mack 🐾

Mack was found on the side of the Hume Highway and handed in to a pound where he remained unclaimed. He wasn't coping well in the shelter, refusing to eat and losing weight quickly, so he was transferred to us.

When his foster carer came to pick him up, she made it clear that she only wanted to foster and was not looking to adopt a dog; Mack, on the other hand, had other plans.

"Mack needed someone to help him through his recovery from surgery to remove cancerous growths on his tummy and legs. I was amazed at the care and attention this old boy had received from PUR after being rescued from a pound, where he’d been on a hunger strike.

Eva helped him into the front seat of my car with a warning that he wasn’t a good traveller. I took a deep breath and we headed off, wondering how I was going to cope with this skinny, sad looking old man full of stitches. Before I knew it Mack put his head on my thigh, then inhaled the little bag of chicken Eva had provided to convince him to eat. We bonded on day one, he wanted me around and I felt the same way." 💙

With the assistance of My Best Friend, Mack peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge in June 2020.

Rest in Peace Mack 🕊

Thank you to Canine Kinetics and My Best Friend Veterinary End of Life Care for providing us with the opportunity to remember Mack and celebrate his life through our calendar 🌈

Excellent article Dr Kate - hopefully provides some much needed information for our clients when making emotional end of life decisions.

Animal behaviour experts agree that dogs mourn when they lose a companion, but have mixed views on whether being there at the death helps their grieving process.
