Data from 3064 dogs was collected to compare the effect of a Non-Processed Meat Diet (NPMD) compared to an Ultra-Processed Carbohydrate Diet (UPCD) and how this impacted the occurrence of Otitis (ear infections) in adult dogs.

The study found that puppies fed a NPMD had a significantly lower risk of developing chronic Otitis later in life, while puppies fed an UPCD had an increased risk of developing recurrent ear infections.

The study concluded that breeders, veterinarians and pet parents should consider the findings and the impact they can have towards prevention of chronic ear infections with nutritional intervention during early life.

💥💥𝗖𝗔𝗧 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗘 💥💥
there is currently a shortage of core cat vaccines across Australia. This is due to supply chain issues following the COVID pandemic. At this stage it is expected that this will continue until early 2024.

To make the most of our limited supplies we have consulted with vaccine experts and the manufacturers to ensure we make the most of our limited supply. Our focus is to therefore prioritise unvaccinated cats and kittens, especially those at higher risk.

The advice we have received indicates that if your cat is an adult and has received their course of kitten vaccines and an annual booster, a delay in their adult booster vaccine until 2024 is unlikely to have a significant impact on their well being.

If you have any further questions about your cat and their vaccination status don't hesitate to call any of our clinics.

💥💥WARNING TO ALL DOG OWNERS💥💥

🔴There has been an outbreak of Parvovirus within the Nambucca Valley. This virus is highly contagious and will spread rapidly. This virus has a high fatality rate because there is no medication to kill the virus.

🔴Main symptoms are severe diarrhoea and vomiting with blood.

🔴Treatment is very very expensive as the patient is under intensive veterinary care with constant intravenous fluids and a cocktail of medications several times a day; the dog has to be kept in isolation and they are usually in hospital for a long period time. This means treatment costs for the owner are high - it is much much cheaper to vaccinate againt this disease.

🔴If your dog has not been vaccinated in the last 12 months we recommend you get them vaccinated ASAP. Parvovirus is deadly and vaccination gives your family dog the best protection which is what they deserve.

🔴If your dog is not vaccinated keep them at home, don't take them out or let them mix with other dogs.

🔴Because it is so expensive to treat these animals, if your dog is admitted with Pavrovirus, we will require upfront payment to treat them.

🔴If you think your dog has symptoms DO NOT BRING THEM INTO THE CLINIC. Please first let our reception staff know and they will arrange for a vet to see your dog outside of the clinic.

Please share this post with other dog owners in the Nambucca Valley area.
