CREAM KELPIES (The Blondes)
Don't think of them as dumb blondes, instead, remember that Blondes have more fun!
The cream colour in Kelpies, like the Masked, Saddled, Blues and Fawns is not so common these days. Many people don't realise that purebred Australian Working Kelpies can be cream coloured. Some of the best Kelpies in the past have been cream dogs. Our Noonbarra Cream Kelpies all go back to the great Creams & Fawns of the famous old Kalari bloodline. We have always found the creams (or Blondes as some call them) are very popular when available and are often the first pups in a litter to be snapped up by eager customers.
The cream colour ranges from very pale almost white to a very dark golden tan. Many have two shades on them just like a Red & Tan or a Black & Tan Kelpie. For some reason most cream Kelpies have white markings on their face and legs. No one knows why this happens but it occurs in more than 50% of cream coloured Kelpies. Unfortunately the pretty white face markings often fade a bit as the dog matures.
Some Kelpie Studs are well known for their Cream Kelpies such as Scanlons, Koonawarra Downs, Glenville, Riana, Kalari etc. Frank Scanlon, the legendary breeder and trainer once told us that he thought the creamies were some of the best Kelpies he ever owned. Les Tarrant of the famous Rockybar Stud always liked to work with the Creams and have them in his breeding program.
There are quite a few famous and influential cream Kelpies of the past. One of the greatest was the big trial winning Kelpie, Porters Don. Another was Woombi Mist. Another was Glenville Swanee. There were lots of others such as Stiers Sandy, Capree Zap, Whites Toby, and many others.
