Big boy Bear was a silly goose and swallowed this rope-toy, which he wasn’t able to pass, and Dr Zoe had to come to his rescue and remove surgically yesterday. Today Bear is bright as a button, and excited to get home to his family! Luckily he signed up for pet insurance after his puppy vaccinations earlier this year! Thanks Dr. Zoe, another life saved!

HomesafeID is a microchip registry based in WA that unfortunately has shut down leaving many pet owners in the lurch. It was a budget brand microchip registry mainly used by rescue groups, and our clinic has no association with them. If you have adopted a dog from a rescue group from outside Bowen, or have had your pet microchipped elsewhere and you are concerned you can pop in and have the ladies scan your dogs chip and check its rego any time free of charge. (Bowen Collinsville Pet Rescue & Helping Hands Pet Rescue chips are registered with AAR and all fine).

Ainsley has returned to us for another rotation in her final year before graduation this year! Ainsley is a JCU student from Townsville who hails from near Hughenden, and decided to join us after we allegedly came very highly recommended from previous students.

Announcing the arrival of our beautiful new litter of 7 from Mumma Dallas and Papa Chilli.
Dallie had 5 girls and 2 boys on Christmas Eve.
We are so proud of the excellent doting mumma she is.
Our biggest heartfelt gratitude to Dr Zoe - and the team - at Bowen Vet Clinic for a perfect c section at 4am (on very little coffee and no hashbrown!) and for her caring, compassionate and generous nature. You made this experience so much easier and fun for all of us ❤️

The Bureau or Meteorology has released a severe heatwave alert for the next three days for the northern region. We have already had patients presenting with heat stress, heat exhaustion and patients hospitalised in critical condition with heat stroke this summer. Take increased caution this week, especially with the elderly or unwell. If you have a short-nosed Brachy type dog that has not yet had BOAS surgery this goes double for you!

Please plan ahead! If you are going away for Christmas and putting your pets in the kennels, their vaccinations must be up to date at least two weeks prior to their stay! This means you have a little over two weeks to sort this out before Christmas!

Dr Seth gave an uncharacteristic smile after vetting this little batch of Tawny Frogmouth orphans for our wildlife carer Jo this morning. Nickednamed ‘the Fraggles’ they have a couple of little health issues to be managed, and hopefully they will be ready to fly the coop once their little wings are strong enough.

Another cutie that the girls loved caring for. This little calf presented with sepsis, and was a 50:50 call, but intensive medical therapy saw her back on her feet, drinking and home to her owners to continue her therapy.

Blue buttons are washing up on bowens beaches again. After a day or two in the sun they start to smell and can be attractive to your dog to eat. It causes severe pain as they pass, and dogs often need strong pain relief to get them through. While they are present on the beaches it is advised to keep your dogs on-leash to ensure they do not eat them and end up spending a night in hospital on a morphine drip while they suffer through the ordeal.

Dr Seth got to spend the weekend with some of the top orthopedic surgeons in the country, keeping up to date with the best surgical options for our patients. It just so happened that the workshop was on Hamilton Island. Must be nice.
