I often hear people say "but I don't want a show dog, I want a pet or a working dog so don't need to go to a ethical registered breeder".
How wrong this thinking is and is the reason so many back yard bred Maremma are shot, euthanized or end up in pounds, rescues and shelters due to temperament and health issues or breeders selling to unsuitable environments.
BUYER BEWARE More puppies on Gumtree for sale by backyard breeders. 2 year old mum is also for sale for the reason she is not suitable to the farm. Poor girl is good enough to have two litters by the age of two, but not good enough to provide a loving home.
If you support unethical back yard breeders by purchasing their puppies, you are encouraging them to keep breeding for material gain, thus contributing to the cycle of dogs who are disposable and mistreated.
In Australia we have very few ethical ANKC registered breeders of Maremma. Ethical breeders have imported new lines from Europe greatly improving the gene pool. Ethical breeders put great thought into the pedigree of each dog, always striving to breed quality dogs of sound temperament, free from inherited genetic health conditions and to breed standard.
It has been my mission from the start to eradicate the ignorant farmers / back yard breeders of Maremma who do not care for the integrity of the breed or the life of the dogs they breed and whose dogs suffer the consequence.

Last week, the National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) voluntary slaughter survey recorded national goat slaughter at 49,920 head, the highest level since the 14th week of 2017 – in more than six years. The high goat slaughter numbers were driven by NSW, where throughput was 14,842 head.

Intersex goats
Intersex goats can be due to 2 reasons. They can be a freemartin where the placenta of a brother mixes with a doe kids placenta (rare but can happen). Alternatively they can be an intersex kid due to a gene linked to the poll gene. All females with 2 genes for pollness are infertile. As all PP females are infertile as (masculinised in the uterus). Does which are intersex vary a lot in their external appearance.
Sometimes just the cl****is is enlarged
(often the size of a pea and easily seen
between the vulvar lips) but in other
cases the external genitalia are a mixture
between male and female. Sometimes
the female looks normal but has no
cervix (which is confirmed via a vaginal
examination). Sometimes the female
can even look like a buck with 1 or 2
te**es in a sc***um.
