๐จ Important Update for Rabbit Owners! ๐จ
We have been informed that a wild rabbit control program is scheduled for Greater Sydney and the Central Coast in early March 2025, involving the release of Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV1-K5), a highly contagious and fatal strain of rabbit calicivirus.
๐ฐ Pet rabbits are at risk! RHDV1-K5 spreads through insects (such as flies and fleas), direct contact with predators such as foxes, dogs, and cats, as well as other rabbits. Infected rabbits may show cold-like symptoms, become lethargic, and deteriorate rapidly.
๐ Protect your rabbit by ensuring they are vaccinated before 1st March 2025.
To further reduce the risk:
โ๏ธ Maintain good hygiene practices.
โ๏ธ Provide secure housing with insect-proofing.
โ๏ธ Avoid contact with wild or unfamiliar pet rabbits.
If you have any questions or need to schedule a vaccination appointment for your rabbit, please contact the clinic or book online via https://macarthurvet.com.au/book-an-appointment/
