The most simple of enrichment activities can be the most effective. Here, we utilised the rocks to provide a new way to sniff and stimulate the senses. All we needed to do was hide and place treats strategically around the rock to promote Miss Minty to explore. 🐺 As natural scavengers, harking back to their wild ancestry, dogs love an opportunity to forage and sniff out food. Some more than others. Like a game of hide and seek. Sometimes the thrill of seeking is more rewarding than the treat itself. 🧠 Nosework! Your dogs nose is their strongest, and most important sense. Give them a chance to work it. A good sniff can also help alleviate stress and promotes feel good hormones in the brain. 🐾 The ability to walk on, and touch, a novel surface is a great way to enrich your dog physically. While some way be worried about trying something new, it's a great chane to positively reinforce it and teach resilience. 🏋‍♂️ Climbing across the rock uses more muscles than a typical walk. Like we go to the gym to work different muscle groups, your dog can benefit from a similar activity. 📬 The dreaded mail man! As a Westie, it's natural for Minty to want to bark at a perceived threat into her second home. The posties sudden appearance provided a great opportunity for our carers to practice training skills we've established inside.
