Chilli had 3 live & very sadly one deceased lil girl pup on the 4/3/22
Through no fault of Chilli did this most beautiful lil girl pass. I was not there to supervise when I should of been & consequently we lost a healthy lil girl. I have to get over this & move on, & this never under my watch happen again
The 3 remaining pups r doing very well & gaining weight daily
At 2 days old they are happy healthy pups & 1st time Mum, Chilli is a fantastic devoted Mum

BUNNY the PEACH

Bunny did not earn her name because she was some cute fluffy little companion with a cotton tail. This girl had a far from "cute " start.

Her name was given due to a far more sinister and all too common reason. Bunny was sold on gumtree but was returned to the breeder because something wasn't right.

Our sister rescue reached out and asked if we could help through our "Diamonds in the Ruff" program. Of course we said yes.

What we were not expecting to find was a puppy who's spine curved so badly, she could not walk. She could only hop "like a bunny".

Though it may sound adorable, it was anything but. Her spine was abnormally short and rounded, causing her hind quarters to tuck underneath, crippling her hip rotations, forcing her to hop.

When looking at photos of some of the other litter mates, it was clear she wasn't the only one with spine deformations but by far, she was the most severe.

ALAS, all our *Diamonds in the Ruff* end up with happy tailes. With the the help of one of our amazing foster carers, Bunny (now known as princess Peach) got the care she needed to start healing and find her forever home.

This little ray of sunshine needed a family who were prepared to handle the responsibility and extent of her ongoing medical condition and therapies.

Luckily she found that in a wonderful couple who came forward, ready to embrace Bunny as she was.

Princess Peach now spends her days enjoying gentle walks, playing with her feline sister, Frankie, and chomping on some fresh cold cucumbers. She even gets a thrill from giving it a good tossing around while she’s at it!

Her rough start to life is now miles behind her. She is not recognisable as this frail, frightened little pup. She now gets the zooooooomies around her parents backyard before crashing in her their laps for cuddles!!

When you get your 8 week old puppies, please keep these images in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

When you're letting your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.
