✨ A Special Visitor ✨

Today was a day filled with extra cuddles and secret joy… because Annabelle’s rescue mumma, Lyndsey, came to visit!

From the moment Annabelle heard that familiar voice, her little tail wagged with excitement. Straight into her arms she went, nuzzling into the one who scooped her up when she was lost and afraid. Their bond is unbreakable—a love story that began the moment Lyndsey chose to give her a chance at life.

While the other lambs were off playing, Annabelle soaked in every second of their time together—her own little secret she kept close to her heart. There’s something so beautiful about these reunions… the recognition, the trust, the peace.

Thank you, Lyndsey, for being the reason Annabelle’s story had a beginning. And thank you to every kind soul who helps us write these happy chapters.

💛 Annabelle, the little lamb with a big heart, had the best day ever.

Do you remember our little Tilly?

From fragile beginnings to this picture of grace and growth, nearly 4 months old. Tilly has blossomed into a gentle soul who’s often found gazing into the distance — we wonder what stories play behind those soft, thoughtful eyes.

Quiet by nature, she’s not one to push forward, but she’s always present… especially when food is involved! And by her side? Her besties Flicker and Talitha, an inseparable trio stitched together by trust, comfort, and sanctuary.

From uncertain starts to peaceful days — this is what love, safety, and friendship can do. 💛

🌿 Introducing the Kindness Crèche 🌿

With our beloved Sheep Haven always in high demand, we’ve created a brand-new space to continue the peaceful journey of our youngest residents — welcome to the Kindness Crèche 💚

This purpose-built, heated room is a gentle stepping stone for our lambs who’ve graduated from the nursery — a calm, comforting space where friendships blossom, woolly bodies rest, and tiny hearts feel safe.

In true Freedom Hill spirit, today the new space was blessed with a crystal sound healing ceremony led by Padma — a soothing way to ease little minds and help them settle into their new surroundings. Wyatt and Tilly, two of our kindest souls, were completely mesmerised by the serene tones as they welcomed new friends, whilst others ate and some tasted the crystal bowls.

The Kindness Crèche reflects the gentle rhythm we nurture here — from bottle to bond, from nursery to new beginnings. Because every baby lamb deserves more than just survival. They deserve peace, presence, and the kindness of a quiet room where healing begins.

The Story of the Unknown

At Freedom Hill Sanctuary, every lamb arrives with a story—but most begin at a chapter we will never truly know.

They come to us with trembling legs, wide eyes, and hearts that have known too much in too little time. Some arrive wrapped in towels, some in silence, some already fading, and some—miraculously—still holding on.

Serene is one of those miracles.

Nearly two months old now, her name—Welsh in origin—means “star,” and that’s exactly what she is. Serene was found beside her lifeless mother, her twin brother barely clinging to life. The rescuer believes they had survived the night alone—how, we’ll never know. Serene bore the marks of her battle for survival: deep cuts across her delicate nose and the back of her head. She had been attacked, left in pain, left in the dark, left with the quiet fading warmth of her family.

Her brother didn’t make it in time.

But Serene did.

And that’s where her story with us begins. But what came before? What sounds did she hear in those long hours? What did she see through blurred, frightened eyes? What was her mother like before death came too soon?

These are the chapters we’ll never read. Pages torn out by a world that too often turns its back on the voiceless.

Yet Serene writes new pages now. She is gentle, always observing. Quiet, but never withdrawn. She delights in her lamb companions and often turns her head to watch the play, the joy, the comfort she now calls home. She doesn’t push to the front. She doesn’t need to. She is presence. She is peace.

She is the light that survived.

How I’d love to know what she’s seen, what she’s felt, and what her mother whispered to her in those final moments. But she can’t tell me. None of them can.

So, we listen instead with our hearts. We listen through every nuzzle, every rest of a head on our laps, every playful skip that says “I’m still here.”

These lambs come to us as mysteries. Survivors of the unknown. But here, their stories take a new path—one of love, healing, and hope.

And though we’ll never know where their stories began, we promise them the ending will always be one of peace.

Goodbye, Bear 💔

At 1:30am this morning, our beloved Bear took his final breath. The pneumonia that had crept in quietly had, despite all our efforts, taken hold too deeply. His little lungs simply couldn’t keep up.

Pneumonia is brutal. Even for humans with access to every kind of care, it’s a battle not easily won. For a young lamb—no matter how loved, protected, and treated—it can be insurmountable. We gave Bear everything we had, and he gave us everything he could.

Bear was the quietest of souls. Nothing ever fazed him—never one to seek the spotlight, but always there with a gentle presence that drew others in. His eyes spoke volumes, holding stories of love, peace, and a happiness that can only be found when one feels truly safe.

He had no need to push his way through life—everyone naturally gravitated toward Bear. Every lamb wanted to be his friend, and he accepted each one with open-hearted ease. He was that kind of soul—one who made the world around him softer just by being in it.

Bear, your time with us was too short, but the imprint you’ve left is lasting. Cross safely now, sweet boy… Tiana is waiting.

Until we meet again, precious Bear. 🌈🐑💫

Some souls don’t need a lifetime to leave a mark—just a moment, a presence, a quiet kind of love. That was Bear. 💔

Animals are not anger management tools.

It may seem shocking, but it’s something we see far too often — people with poor emotional regulation turning to animals as a means of control, power, or outlet. And when it comes to farm animals, they are the most forgotten victims in our animal welfare system. No one monitors how a sheep is treated on a back block, or how a goat is spoken to when no one is listening.

At Freedom Hill Sanctuary, we stand fiercely against this.
We vet every person who enters our property, because the safety and wellbeing of our residents come first — always. I’ve ordered shearers off the property for displaying anger. I’ve stopped contractors mid-task when their energy turned hostile. Why? Because animals feel everything — and they should never be at the receiving end of someone’s inability to cope.

There should be laws preventing people with known anger management issues from owning animals.
It should be that simple.

Animals, especially farm animals, are sentient beings — not a place to pour rage, not a way to regain dominance, not a punching bag for powerlessness. They are the voiceless — and it is our responsibility to be their voice.

At Freedom Hill, we are creating a space where peace is the default, kindness is the standard, and no one raises a hand, a tool, or a tone in anger.

Because how we treat the most vulnerable says everything about who we are.

🐻 Bear Update 🐾

Our darling Bear is still in the thick of his battle with pneumonia. Chest infections like this can be slow and stubborn, and while he’s not out of the woods just yet, this little fighter is giving it his all — and so am I.

He’s not drinking as much milk as he normally would, but he’s still hungry for it in small, determined doses. That spark is there. That will to heal.

We’re continuing treatment, one breath at a time, and wrapping him in all the love and warmth we can. Time will tell, but we believe in Bear — and I know so many of you do too.

Keep him close in your thoughts. 💛

💔 Today, Our Hearts Shattered 💔

This morning began like any other—except it wasn’t.
Tiana didn’t want breakfast. She didn’t rush to the gate or do her usual cheeky trot. She simply stood there. Still. Quiet. Not our fierce, fiery little Tiana.

We called the vet, expecting something treatable, something fixable. A course of antibiotics, maybe a few days of rest.
But nothing—nothing—could have prepared us for the words that followed:
Liver cancer. A mass had formed. There was no saving her.

Today is my birthday. And last night, my wish was for Bear the lamb to recover. I never imagined today would be the day I would say goodbye to Tiana.
There are no days off when you run a sanctuary. But this… this is not the kind of day anyone is ever ready for.

Tiana came to Freedom Hill after her beloved human, Faye, was moved into care. Until Faye’s passing, she’d get updates—updates that always ended with, “Tiana’s doing just fine.”
And she was.
At first, the other donkeys—Eeyore and May—weren’t so sure. But Tiana, sweet and persistent, followed them with her unspoken question:
“Will you be my friend?”
Eventually, they let her in. And oh, how she bloomed. She became donkey through and through—spinning joyfully at mealtime, fiercely protective of her food, mischievous in her ways. She adored being brushed (but heaven help us if we brushed another donkey before her.

And when baby Annie was born to Eeyore, Tiana surprised us all with her tenderness. She was calm, protective, and nurturing—watching over that little one with a mother’s heart. Her quiet gentleness shone brightest in those moments.

Tiana was cheeky, spirited, loyal, and kind.
She knew she was safe. She knew she was loved.

And today… she’s gone. Just like that.
There are no words for the shock or the heartbreak.

Darling Tiana, your absence is louder than your silence ever was.
You touched every soul lucky enough to know you.
Run free now, sweet girl.

You were family. You were home. You were so loved.
Tiana ~ Forever part of Freedom Hill. Forever part of us.

Until we meet again. 💔 R.I.P

Our little Bear needs your thoughts tonight.

Sweet Bear — the quietest of souls, our gentle little shadow — woke this morning struggling to breathe. No warning signs, no subtle clues… just sudden, laboured breaths that sent our hearts racing. Silent pneumonia. A cruel thief in the night.

When you consider the reality for lambs born into the harsh Australian outback — no shelter, no warm crèche, no farmer checking in — it’s no wonder the death toll is heartbreakingly high. And yet even here, where every life is treasured and every arrival is met with warmth, love, and first milk filled with immune-boosting power, some lambs still fall ill. Because we can never fully know what they’ve endured before they arrived — was Bear born with weaker lungs? Did his tiny body quietly fight until it couldn’t anymore?

At Freedom Hill Sanctuary, no baby is left outside — not even in a shelter — they are safely tucked in with heating, watched day and night. We pride ourselves on knowing what to do and when, but sometimes, the body hides what the heart can’t see.

Bear is now on two antibiotics, curled beside a humidifier to ease his little lungs. He’s quiet, still, and so brave.

Please hold him in your heart tonight. These lambs move mountains in us — and for them, we do the same. 💛

🌾 Two Blind Lambs, One Unbreakable Bond

It’s incredibly rare to have a lamb born blind. But to welcome two blind lambs—just six days apart—feels like more than coincidence.

Was it fate? Destiny? A whisper from the universe that these two little souls were always meant to find each other… and find sanctuary.

Lior and Angus came into this world without sight—but here at Freedom Hill, they’ve been given vision in another way: the promise of safety, love, and a future full of joy.

Tiny Lior gave us a scare early on with a serious infection, but true to his spirit, he’s overcome it and returned to his cheeky little self. And then there’s Angus—twice the size, full of strength and determination. Both thrive on cuddles and connection, and one day, we know they’ll be the best of friends.

I always say every animal who arrives here is one of the lucky ones—but these two have no idea just how lucky they truly are. Born into hardship, but now wrapped in hope.

✨ A miracle? We think so.
💛 A new beginning? Absolutely.
🐑 A life they deserve? Without a doubt.

🚨 Just Arrived 🚨

As dusk fell across the hills tonight, our Lambulance was once again called into action…

Please meet Rusty, whose tiny heart has already known great sorrow. 💔

After the passing of his mum, Rusty began his desperate search — calling, wandering through the paddock, approaching every ewe he could find, hoping one might accept him. But no one did.

He was alone, hungry, and quickly running out of time.

Thankfully, compassionate hobby farmers witnessed his heartbreaking efforts and made the life-saving call to us. Rusty was scooped up and cradled in kindness, and I met him with warmth and urgency.

Now, Rusty is safe. Fed. Loved. No longer searching.

This is the beginning of his new story — one of healing, friendship, and sanctuary.

Farm Animal Rescue

Freedom Hill Sanctuary ~ Where Life Begins

Freedom Hill Sanctuary is the first farm animal sanctuary in South Australia. Starting back in 2011 with the first rescue lamb called Lynn, named after Lyn White from Animals Australia. Lynn was a orphaned twin lamb who spent his days with our 4 dogs, running playing with them and sheltering when it rained in the kennels with them. He knew no difference and was not treated any different than our dogs. Lynn received as much love and cuddles as all animals deserved. Lynn taught me that being vegan was not enough that I needed to tell the world how intelligent sheep are, I needed to show people that all animals including ‘farmed’ animals have the same feelings and desires as domestic animals, hence the creation of Freedom Hill Sanctuary. Since then we have increased at a rapid rate including many more sheep, all with their own unique stories, calves rescued from the horrendous dairy industry, Teddy Moo being our first dairy calf rescue at 3 days old, pigs, goats, chickens & ex race horses. Freedom Hill Sanctuary is in the process of expanding to a larger property so we can continue with the much needed secure home for the forgotten ones.

We would love to see each and everyone of you once we are setup and offering tours to the public and schools.

Education is the key!
