This week I rehomed three of my breeding cats. I had the most beautiful litters from all three of them. Two went to retire at local pet homes (a close friend and a former client home) and one went to a fellow breeder I now consider a dear friend.
The thing I didn’t realise about breeding before I started is that I’d end up with cats I really loved that I wouldn’t have the capacity to keep forever.
I knew I would need to rehome them eventually, I just didn’t expect to find three absolutely perfect homes at the exact same time (the black harlequin for example, I have been trying to find the right home for several months now). I don’t really know what the purpose of this post is other than to vent some emotions I guess. It really takes me back to Cat Breeding for Beginners philosophy that breeding cats are not pet cats. We can love on them like pet cats all we want, but the sad reality is, they aren’t. One reason being is that we can’t keep all of them all their lives, as we would our pet cats.
