Do you have your leash? 🐶

On-the-spot fines for dog owners who fail to control their dogs in public places have increased to $806.

This includes having a dog off-leash in an on-leash area. Or, if the dog is in an off-leash area, the owner must be able to control the dog using voice command.

For fatal attacks, owners face fines up to $108,000 and possible jail time.

So often we want our puppy not to behave like one. If you do the necessary work to raise a confident adult dog, you will have the best friend you’ve ever had and the journey will be so rewarding BUT you must put the time in. Puppies can’t raise themselves, they need your guidance. Enjoy the ride!

5 Star Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

About a week ago, my dog George and I had his first training session with Rob at Dog Training By Zen. He's already received a lot of help from Dr Callie at the Zen Vet, but it was high, if not well past time to put some dog training into the mix. It's only been a week, but George is already making remarkable progress. George struggles big time with separation anxiety and dog reactivity, but already he is making huge progress with both.

It's all thanks to Rob's expertise, guidance and encouragement. He's taught me some excellent positive reinforcement techniques and training games, as well as helped me to discover that George is super food motivated. I can tell that he genuinely cares about the progress George and I make, which I know will help me be really consistent with training and keep it up for the long-term. Rob's customer service skills are top notch, and his approach to training his really fun. With his help, I genuinely feel like I've bonded with my dog more in the space of a week than I ever have in his life.

I found Rob online last year, after we had an incident where one of our dachshunds nipped a child who was a family member of ours. We were expecting our first baby to arrive just a few weeks after the incident, so it was important to us to get a professional opinion and quickly put in any steps to help stop this behavior from happening in the future. Rob was quick to respond to my enquiry and after an in depth phone call, was out to visit us at our home within the week. Rob is knowledgeable, professional and genuine. He spent over an hour with us, and was able to give us some great advice and ideas on training, to help improve both of our dachshunds behaviors. We have put several things into practice that Rob advised and we've seen improvement! Thank you Rob! I would highly recommend Rob to anyone needing assistance with dog training, I know you'll be in good hands.

Boundary training- a place of great value for your dogs which we can use in everyday life e.g., keeping your dog out of the kitchen, using when guests arrive , training two dog's and visiting your local cafe. Adding a release cue to your already known behavior's- helps create duration when asking your dog for a sit. LLW- how to hold the lead, leash pressure. creating proximity. Plus so much more. Also your dogs practices working with you when in the presence of other dog's.

Something to think about.
Forcing a dog to ‘face its fears’ and taking away its control over its own movement is probably not a good idea as the risk of creating a negative learning experience becomes very high.

Luring a fearful dog with food could work out fine and can sometimes make a dog to realize that an object is safe, but it can also create feelings of inner conflict and some dogs will suddenly startle. I would never advise anyone to lure a fearful dog into meeting other animals (including humans) as this can become very risky. Once the food has been eaten, the dog may freak out in being too close and suddenly react with a defensive response.

Encouraging a dog (with verbal praise or other types of rewards) after it takes initiative in exploring and processing information at its own pace can boost the self-confidence of a dog and can reduce stress and fearfulness.

Retractable Leads: Friend or Foe

Many owners love retractable leads to allow their dog to have some more freedom when required. The use of them seems to be rising in popularity.

Behaviour is only labelled good or bad because it’s what we have perceived it to be. To our dogs, behaviour is is explored or repeated simply because it is reinforcing in some way.
When we start to think of behaviour just as meeting a need. We can start to change our response to it and work on our own reactions.
And of course tell Santa all dogs are on the good list.
