I have mixed emotions tonight, beautiful Elvis has now passed all his preliminary health testing (dna, hips, elbow, heart and eyes) with flying colours and is now heading off to his guardian home in the morning.
We had our last training session today and I was so touched with how much he tries to please me, then his first full groom, and he bloody aced it .
Seeing Elvis with his guardian family on previous visits and the connection he has I know I've made the right decision for him to have his own family but it doesnt make it any easier.
I'm so very grateful for the amazing families that take on my guardian dogs and as a sweet coincidence he will be living around the corner to both Maggie (his future wife) and Mabel (Elton's true love). Elvis will be our future stud boy, DNA clear, great hips, straight coat heart clear.... so excited to see his puppies....
We plan for a Elvis x Georgie litter in the coming months. I also have guardian opportunities coming up with the next two litters.

Oh my goodness πŸ₯° Look at the eye contact on these gorgeous puppers that Wattleview Australian Cobberdogs have from their lovely Caddi girl and by our amazing Spook (Lovelocks Hocus Pocus).
Spook has now been retired and when I hear how wonderful his last litter are doing with strong intuition and training and see puppies like this I am so proud for the beautiful contribution he has made to the Australian Cobberdog Breed.

Spotlight: "Belamekah The Phantom" F6 Miniature Australian Cobberdog.

Affectionately known as Elton he is currently the only chocolate phantom Cobberdog stud in Australia.

Bred by Belamekah with all Tegan's linage he has generations of quality Australian Cobberdogs in his pedigree.

Oozing the true cobberdog temperament, highly intelligent and of course extremely personable consistently demonstrating his human connection, Elton at 9kgs, 40cm to the shoulder is a miniature stud for the future. He has clear DNA, normal elbows and patellar, OFA Good hips, clear heart and eyes. With his exceptional temperament, outstanding health, and unique colour pattern we look forward to seeing his contribution to the future of the Australian Cobberdog.

Elton will honeymoon with Mindy in just a few weeks, if you would like more information on this mating please head over to our RightPaw page.

Lets talk grooming

To ensure your pup gets a great groom no matter who you chose make sure your pup is mat free and has had exposure training at home to sitting and sc******ng, clippers, blower etc, the easiest way is to incorporate this into your grooming routine, you can use an electric toothbrush and rub over body, so they get used to sound and vibration and your hair-dryer again noise and the feel of their hair blowing. The best grooms are on dogs that are easy to groom so the time is spent on the cut not controlling or training the dog.
I also recommend you take a photo with you on what you want your dogs cut to look like as there are so many different styles and what your thinking might be different to what they are thinking. Re recommendations if you go to a salon that participate in grooming competitions you will get a superior cut, as they are more versed in style grooms.
I'm about to embark on full grooms for my little pack so I can update photos, right now they look a little wild 🀣. I can tell you some days they get great cuts and others are disasters, lucky their hair grows back fast. What's your favourite cobber look? And do you have a favourite salon?

The Road Map to Purebred Status – The Australian Cobberdog

I often get asked what the Fs mean when describing an Australian Cobberdog. Well the F’s in short stand for what generation past a foundation animal (parent breed or approved infusion) the dog is.

Confused?
Don’t worry stick with me and Ill try and explain. Using generational nomenclature is a way to keep track of each generation through foundation breeding on the road to purebred status. Note animals bred to the F4 stage are considered a PURE BRED animal based on National Breed Associations worldwide including the Australian National Kennel Club ANKC.

Are we there yet?
Yes & No. When creating a new breed from two different parent breeds following an established breeding plan you can get to pure breed status and breed true by the 4th generation. However the Australian Cobberdog was made up of many different breeds with different infusions along the way which also complicates the end product, as not all cobberdogs across the globe have all of the different parent breeds in their background. This has left us with the complicated task to β€˜clean up’ the pedigrees and with many more traits to get to homozygosity whilst also balancing the COI in each generation. Note we need certain traits (physical look) to be homozygous so the dogs breed true.
Homozygosity is where both alleles for the same gene match. COI is a calculation of inbreeding for the breed, the goal is to keep the COI low to maintain the genetic health of the animal.

Ok so where are we at?
According to the current breed registry, there are over 50’000 registered Australian Cobberdogs across the globe, and more than 250 breeders. As the breed registry still allows breeders to cross their dogs back to parent breeds (called infusions or foundation), we still need to use foundation breeding nomenclature. Once the dog gets to purebred status the F’s will no longer be used as the animal is considered a purebred and should simply be called an Australian Cobberdog.
Below is a very simplistic overview of how the foundation breeding works and what the F’s mean.
**As explained above, due to the many different traits introduced into cobberdog breeding it may take many more generations before we see the end of foundation breeding.

In conclusion
The increase in genetic testing available to modern breeders will speed up the process and enable breeders to make calculated decisions to fast track to purebred status. Until that time the foundation breeding nomenclature needs to be used and is a great way for breeders to be transparent to puppy buyers.

Another beautiful update for those following the Muppets litter, who remembers Rowlf?

Now named Cooper, went to a lovely family in NSW as a potential assistance dog. Here is what his family has to say......

"I wanted to let you know that today Cooper passed his Basic Canine Good Citizen test & Temperament Assessment today!
Since he’s passed these tests he’ll get his assistance dog in training vest πŸ˜ƒ
Thank you for blessing us with one of your pups and making this all possible for my daughter. πŸ’œ"

This funny monkey is a future stud boy for our breeding program. Elvis a 6 month old, small medium F5 ACD, low shedding straight caramel coat, highly trainable, basics completed including crate trained, loves to have a snuggle on the lounge and as a typical pup follows me around like a shadow.
I'm seeking a guardian home placement within 60 minutes of Ipswich. The ideal home is someone who loves dogs, committed to continuing training, invested in furthering the cobberdog breed, has plenty of time to spend with him.
If you think you will be a good fit for Elvis (a young future stud boy), excited to be involved in our breeding program, live close to Ipswich (consider Brisbane to Toowoomba) then please reach out.
Note photos taken before his bath today...

Yesterday I was able to catch up with DC Maggie Bear and her lovely guardian family Candice.
Maggie is an absolute showstopper, with an exceptional light density vibrant caramel coat and a beautiful loving temperament.
I was so impressed with training to date, especially using the doggy ramp instead of the stairs without being asked, she is super smart also exhibiting fantastic calm and control sitting quietly and might add perfectly for pictures and as expected an absolute love bug! Maggie has passed her preliminary health testing, and we will wait until she is little older for finals. All going well we expect Maggie will join our breeding program in 2025.

Thank you to Leah from Daley Connections for allowing us to purchase Maggie and continue this (Martha's) line that have been rock solid in temperament for me.

πŸ–€πŸ–€ Now named Raven πŸ–€πŸ–€

Raven recently passed her assistance dog suitability test and continues to provide calm and smart traits.
Her lovely family say " I’ve never had a dog so bloody affectionate in my life - she’s just beautiful"

We all know I had a little cry when this one left the nest so it's so lovely to get updates..

2024 sees some exciting and challenging changes at Lovelocks with a number of dogs retiring, and a shift in direction, focussing on specific lines that I feel are exceptional advocates for the breed. This does mean I have guardian home opportunities coming up and am looking for exceptional dog loving people that are interested and excited to be involved in my breeding program and contributing the ACD breed in development.
You must provide a loving home, and be committed to raising the dog as a good citizen, providing training, socialisation, so the dog is not only a good ambassador for Lovelocks but for the ACD breed in general.
All dogs & pups going into guardian & retirement homes will be on contracts. If you think this might be for you, and you live Brisbane, Ipswich, Gatton, Toowoomba area, send through a message outlining what lifestyle you can offer the dog or puppy, and your preferences (pup or retiring young dogs). More information can be found on the website however there may be different (contract) terms depending on what dog or pup is chosen.

Dancer has found her perfect home and I can confirm.i had a few tears letting this one go.... such a special girl. I'm looking forward to being spammed with updates.

Dancer end of week 1. Naturally seeks place when entering room, active participant when training. When I open the sliding doors she will run in and sit on "place". She is highly trainable. A thinking dog, higher bursts of exuberance but loves training and connecting. This is a fantastic prospect for the right home.
Video shows a full training session with her unedited.... yes she works better after a warm up but will give you an idea on the length of time a training session is at this age
