Daphne's puppies are 9 weeks old today, and the final pup from our allocated group has left for their forever home!

As a breeder, I always feel a mix of nerves and excitement when they leave, but it warms my heart to see the beautiful bonds they form with their new families.

*We have a unique opportunity with Dell who has demonstrated a keen nose for scent work, amazing connection and natural ability to know who needs her most.

Delphine, affectionately known as Dell, has shown impressive natural qualities that, with the right training, could make her an excellent candidate for a future Medic Alert Assistance Dog. She has recently started her initial four-week training with Assistance Dogs Australia. Dell possesses remarkable scenting skills and is adept at sensing changes in people. Her strong connection with others and high motivation for work will help her thrive in this position. We prioritize inquiries from those interested in training a pup for a Medic Alert role or any other assistance dog purpose, yet welcome all enquiries. Dell has a higher price point reflected by her time in training.

Florian, our extra-large last remaining male from Daphne and Obi (litter), is a gentle giant. He interacts softly with his littermates and exhibits a medium to low energy level, radiating a sense of calm and quiet confidence. His demeanor is more clumsy and gentle than overly enthusiastic. Florian has a straight fleece coat (light density), which is expected to mature into a long-haired coat with gentle waves.
Both of his parents have successfully passed all health assessments, including DNA, hips, elbows, and heart evaluations, and Florian is accompanied by a health guarantee.
Florian is ready for his forever family this week (3rd January) or can move to a 4 week puppy training program with our recommended Certified Assistance Dog Trainer (additional costs apply).

Florian has a family waiting for him. You can find out about our expected litters for 2025 on our website.

Florian is the largest puppy in the litter and is expected to grow into a large dog as he matures. He possesses a beautiful light-density straight coat, which will develop into long, wavy fur in adulthood. He has a gentle and affectionate personality.
Don't let his potential size fool you he has a soft nature and needs kind reassurance, loves a lap cuddle and belly rub.

Daphne's puppies are 7 weeks old today and we have our local families coming out to meet the litter with pups being allocated over the next few days.
Pups in this litter range from Medium to big Standards (some grandparent genetics bringing the size down in a couple of puppies)

We are still looking for 2 families who are ready now (go home date 3rd January) to welcome a pup into their home.

January 2025 Planned Honeymoon - Elvis & Billie

I have selected Elvis for Bille because their characteristics and temperaments complement each other well. Most importantly, Elvis represents a complete outcross in terms of pedigree, which means that their genetic combination will lead to healthier puppies. This approach helps us avoid line breeding, which can increase the risk of genetic diseases due to the duplication of genes.

This mating reflects the commitment to breed not just pretty puppies but also healthy puppies. The COI (coefficient of inbreeding) for this mating is 0.7%, both parents have been hip scored well lower than the breed average, clear DNA, free of elbow dysplasia and hold annual heart clearance certificates.

The pups from this mating are likely caramel, red, golds, straight coat medium sized, low shed light density coats.

Daphne's pups are 5 weeks old today. They have now moved to our dog room where they have access to the outside, consistently use their grass mats for pooping 🙏 and now eating solids.
Time certainly flies by when I'm busy caring for this lot. Puppy baths tomorrow and some outside play before that rain returns.

Mindys Puppet Update

Pups had a big weekend starting with a grooming session, warm bath and towel dry before meeting families, at our puppy meet and great day. Thank you to all our local families that were able to come out, a fantastic socialisation experience for the pups and chance for our families to ask questions.

Next up Vet checks and Allocations.

Allocations are done in order as follows:

1) Breeder Pick
2) Potential Therapy placement dogs
3) Then household dynamics (ie young children)

Once I have these established, I work through applications and do my best to match families wish list to puppies.

All puppies are caramel (bbee) albeit of varying shades, all puppies have a straight fleece coat, liver noses and light eyes. Both parents have FULL health testing (Hips, elbows, DNA, heart).

I am proud to be with a breed Society that:

- prioritises health over profits,
- educates new breeders why COI matters, and
- provides tools for breeders to make informed decisions

When buying from an ACS Breeders you can be assured the parents health tests are completed and scored from reputable sources, fall within the parameters set out in the ACS Standards and No inbreeding or underage breeding is permitted.

The Australian Cobberdog Society is committed to preserving the breed's long-term future, implementing several evidence-based strategies to improve health in the current ACD population.

One of our primary objectives is to reduce the coefficient of inbreeding (COI) in future generations by implementing restrictions on inbreeding practices and equipping breeders with the necessary tools and roadmaps established by the ACS to achieve this. This includes a pedigree and health database for our breeders with inbuilt COI calculations and hypothetical mating functions.

The coefficient of inbreeding (COI) is a scientific measure that assesses the risk associated with inbreeding within a population or individual. A high COI indicates a greater likelihood of adverse genetic effects, including compromised health, reduced litter viability, and a decreased lifespan.

The Institute of Canine Biology states that a coefficient of inbreeding (COI):
• below 5% is optimal for health.
• levels between 5% and 10% can lead to moderate negative impacts on the offspring.
• levels exceeding 10% can result in substantial adverse effects, not only diminishing the quality of the offspring but also harming the breed.

(COI FAQS: Understanding the Coefficient of Inbreeding - The Institute of Canine Biology)

COI of 12.5% corresponds to a mating between half siblings or, a grandparent and a grandchild.
COI of 25% is indicative of a mating between a parent and child, or between full siblings.

Below you will see our 4 year plan in COI reduction.
