Mischief’s Puppies Have Arrived!
After going into labour late yesterday and delivering her first puppy with relative ease, but then 4 hours passed without any more puppies being born despite consistent contractions. Mischief had grown tired and I found one pup in the birth canal in breech position, that despite some assistance during contractions over a fair amount of time would not budge. Baby 2 was stuck. A quick Doppler check revealed the other pups (the ones I could find) were in potential distress and the stuck pup had possibly passed away—so off the 24hr emergency vet we went. A stressful examination and ultrasound revealed live puppies, even the stuck pup, so I made the quick decision for an emergency cesarean to protect mum and her precious babies. Two hours later, the pups had all been delivered, and despite needing quite a bit of resuscitation all (even the stuck pup) had made it!!! Once out of surgery, Mischief was quite cold but wanted easily with some intervention. The vet and his team did and great job, and I was able to bring Mischief and her babies home well after midnight. By the wee hours of the morning we were home, settled, and I had gotten each of her six puppies to latch, with only two being a little worrying. Today Mischief and her babies are doing good, all latching with not too much help although Mischief has very little milk yet. Luckily with Wynter’s help I have been able to top up the puppy’s milk intake and they have all gained a few grams of weight 💜🐶🩵 #pedigreechihuahuas #purebredchihuahua #chihuahualove #chihuahuapupies

Wynter’s Litter
It has been a very long and exhausting week with our dear girl Wynter going into labour prematurely after one of her babies died in utero, causing a second puppy (a pretty little blue boy) to be born premature before the deceased puppy was birthed. With vet intervention we tried to keep the remaining two puppies from being born too early, but after a day it was clear with one beginning to go into distress that we needed to deliver the puppies via cesarean even though they would still be premature. I am thankful I made this call, as during the procedure it was discovered that Wynter’s uterus had ruptured in three places, which if we had waited for a continued natural delivery would have been potentially fatal to Wynter and her unborn babies. After the great work of my trusted vets to deliver the puppies safely (a black tri and a white girl), perform a hysterectomy on Wynter and decontaminate her abdominal cavity and administer intravenous antibiotics, Wynter woke slowly in my arms as her anesthetic wore off. The following days have been tough, with Wynter not wanting to eat and with trying to get her milk to come in for her three babies. Being quite premature they had little hair and needed help learning to latch on to their mum as well as feeding top-ups every few hours around the clock. Unfortunately, despite all of this, we lost the first born boy who needing resuscitating at a few days old and couldn’t flourish after that. The two girls are finally starting to latch feed on their own sometimes and are getting fat milk bellies and looking like full term new borns with their hair growing in. Wynter is doing much better now too, still on a course of antibiotics but now eating with less encouragement as you can see in the video. The ups and downs of canine breeding are certainly a roller coaster that can be heartbreaking and expensive, though I am grateful for the broken lack of sleep when I see these two little babies starting to thrive. #chihuahualove

Little Buddy - Part 5
Little Buddy - Part 5
I’m Little Buddy and I had a big week when my human family went away for Easter 🐣 they wanted to take me with them but mumma said dogs weren’t allowed. My brothers and me had the best time though and were super lucky to stay with human Nana. She was so much fun, letting me ride in her pocket and sleep in the crook of her neck on the couch between my many daily feeds. My brothers loved it too, playing in a new place with all new sights, sounds and smells (some of those were from Grandad 😂 💨 )
Even though we loved it at Nana’s, I was so super excited when my family, especially human mumma came to pick me up and take us home. To show her how happy I am to be home, I decided to be brave and try some soaked dry food…and I loved it! Human mumma was so excited and said I should start growing again!!! Yay!
My human sister is helping me eat my wet bickies in this video. She’s one of my favourite people too 🐶🥰
To be continued…when I am a little bit bigger 🤞♥️

Little Buddy — Part 4
I am older and a tiny bit bigger every day. Human mumma says I’m getting better at eating my special mousse/gelatine cubes, and today I even ate one off the plate myself. My human mummy was happy after weighing me today coz I have grown a whole 28g in a week!
Today I had a special dad with my human daddy looking after me because human mumma had a far-away dog show and couldn’t take me with her. He did a great job, warming up my milk to the perfect temperature and helping me drink it every two hours. Don’t tell human daddy, but I was still super excited when human mumma got home 🐶
Little Buddy - Part 3
Little Buddy - Part 3
Hi everyone, I’m little Buddy, and my story is still going thanks to my what my human mumma says is my energetic enthusiasm for life and milk 🥛
Now that I have almost doubled my birthweight, I am able to walk around (like a newborn baby deer my mumma says) 🦌 And I’m so not a baby anymore coz I get to eat mooshy puppy food 🐶 Although it’s a bit hard as the moosh likes to come out my nose when I try to eat it. But that’s okay, my human mumma found a way to help me swallow the food before I sneeze it out 😜
With some powered gelatine that she mixes into my smoosh, the food stays soft but not squishy, and with a little help, my human mumma can push tiny cut cubes of the food to the back of my throat so I can swallow them.
Mumma says I’m not growing as fast lately, so maybe when I learn to eat better I can get even bigger ☺️🤞
