Saffron and I attempted our first ever beginner level Hoopers course this afternoon 😍 She is testing my course designs for my Hoopers Level 1 class! This is 4 metre spacing and 12 hoops 🙌
She's so fast and fun 🥰 Even as dog trainer, I used to be hesistant trusting Saffy off leash and Hoopers has given me so much confidence in her ability to focus and ignore distractions 💜
Is your puppy chewing your furniture or stealing your socks? 🤭
This isn't a training issue...
➡️ Management is a HUGE part of raising a puppy. We need to control the environment so your puppy is set up to make good decisions.
If you let your puppy have access to your whole house, you're setting them up to fail. Of course, they are going to chew or steal things you don't want them to have 😅
It's a normal developmental stage for puppies to explore the world with their mouth (they don't have hands 👋). They are likely to be teething as well. This is an uncomfortable process where they will want to soothe by chewing. I'm sure you'd rather they chew on a toy than your shoes 😉
While your dog is a baby, make sure you have a management plan ✅️ This could include a puppy pen, a crate, baby gates, puppy proofing, and your supervision 👀
It's your job to teach your puppy how to fit into your lifestyle. With management, you are setting your puppy up to behave in a way you like!
If you're getting a puppy soon, share your management ideas with me in the comments 💜
Are you dreaming of beach trips where your dog can run free on the sand and play in the waves? ⛱️🌊🐾
Achieving off leash freedom and control can be easily taught with Canine Hoopers 😍
Canine Hoopers is an agility style sport where we teach your dog to navigate a course of obstacles, made up of barrels (shown in video), hoops, and tunnels.
Hoopers teaches your dog:
✅️ to look to you for directions
✅️ stay close when not wearing a leash
✅️ follow your verbal instructions
✅️ pay attention to your body language to determine where they should go

Spend the morning with me at puppy school 🥰🐶
This is what a typical Sunday morning looks like for me as a puppy school instructor.
I'm so proud of this group of puppy graduates 🎓 They have done an excellent job over the past several weeks. I firmly believe every dog owner should enrol in a quality training program. You deserve to know how to clearly communicate with your furry friend, and your dog deserves guidance about how to fit into our weird and busy world 🌎 It's less frustrating and more rewarding for BOTH of you 💜
My Sunday 10am puppy class is booked until Feb 25th 2024! I've got 3 spots left in the Sunday 11am class available from January 7th if you're getting a puppy soon 🐾 Send me a DM to chat, I'd love to help!

Come behind the scenes of my last Saturday private sessions of 2023 ✨️
I rarely take on one on one programs, and I'm so proud of how far these teams have come in a few months!
Now, I am excited to start a new chapter in my business and offer Canine Hoopers in 2024 🤩
I went to Perth in October to become a certified Canine Hoopers World Instructor, with the goal of bringing this fun and beneficial sport to Brisbane.
Most of my clients want to follow on from puppy training and learn things like loose leash walking, coming when called, and off leash control - which can all be taught with Hoopers!
Leave a comment below if you want to play Hoopers next year 🐾
❓️ Have you heard of a term called "behaviour capture"
This is the EASIEST way to see fast results when training your new puppy.
It's way too easy to ignore good things you dog is doing (like sitting nicely or sleeping in their crate) and pay attention when your dog does something you don't like (like barking or jumping up)
Screenshot these six things that will make your puppy more well behaved without any extra effort on your part 🤩
When we reward a behaviour, it's more likely to happen again, so let's captilise om things your puppy is ALREADY doing!
Socialisation does not mean taking your puppy out and about, letting people pat them and saying hi to other dogs 🚫
It's about teaching your puppy how to be comfortable with things they'll encounter out in the world.
In this 30-minute outing, Bubbles experienced:
✅️ Some people walking by
✅️ 2 dogs walking by
✅️ Cars and road noise
✅️ 2 loud motorbikes going past
✅️ Dogs barking in a house across the street
✅️ People talking to us (and me kindly explaining that they couldn't pat her)
✅️ Wind and waves at the foreshore
... all from the back of my car 🚗
She did AWESOME ⭐️ A couple of times, she stopped licking to watch a person or listen to a noise, but she was RESILIENT, took it in her stride and went straight back to happily licking, which is calming and rewarding 🐾
My goal is for puppies to think "oh what's that? Oh, that's cool, it didn't bother me" 😎
I am not throwing them in the deep end by going to busy, loud, and overwhelming places like the markets or bunnings on a weekend 🙈
Guess what? 5 days ago, Bubbles cried for almost the whole 30-minute drive to my house and the drive back to her house. She even threw in a few howls to really break my heart. Today, she relaxed quietly, fussed just a little, and slept on the way home. How have I been turning this around?
⭐️ I aimed to make my car a place to be comfortable and familiar, just like at home.
⭐️ We spent extra time hanging out in the car together, and not driving anywhere.
⭐️ I desensitised triggers like closing the door or turning the engine on. I didn't want her to think XYZ = something bad!
⭐️ We always had a treat party! I brought out the best of the best, from Greek yoghurt on a Lickimat to pieces of string cheese.
⭐️ I learnt what she likes:
- Bubbles prefer my jumper in the crate. She burrows and settles there. I believe she finds my scent comforting, as she's not been able to settle without it yet.
- Bubbles likes quiet music, talking, singing, and verbal praise instead of silence.
- Bubbles likes the air conditioning cooler and blowing into the crate. She was whining when she was too hot.
- Bubbles likes eye contact and attention, so I make an effort to engage with her when stopped at a red light.
- Bubbles likes cuddles and physical touch, so I make an effort to stick my hand back for pats when it is safe to do so.
Have you heard of counter conditioning in dog training? Watch this video to see how we help border collie puppy, Obi, be cool and confident around the vacuum 😎
Do you have a puppy that chases the vacuum, broom, or mop? Make sure to go back and watch Part 1 on my profile to see how we can address this through training 🥳
We need to remember that everything in the world is NEW to our puppies, so it might be scary or overwhelming.

Come behind the scenes with me! This is what a puppy training session with me can look like 😊
Do you have a puppy that likes to chase the vacuum too? Maybe it's the broom or mop instead 🙊 Whatever it is, we need to help our puppies be okay with novelty (new and weird things).
They won't just "get used to it," in fact they'll get BETTER at the behaviour you don't like because they've practised it. Then it's harder to undo a habit 😅

Why I love puppy training 🩷 We can set you up to achieve your dreams from day one!
Wow! I had the most incredible time at the Australasian Animal Training Conference. Like one of the speakers said, I wish I could have bottled up the energy there and sip on it as inspiration each day! I'm excited to share my learnings and stories of what other trainers have been working on 🌟
Happy Mother's Day 🩷 Do I feel like a proud mum of my beautiful clients? I'd say yes 😆 Check out Chapter One graduate Willow relaxing at a busy cafe 😍👏
Meet Felisa & Rory (the 12 week old Border Collie x Bernese Mountain Dog 🐶)
Watching their puppy school homework videos makes my heart sing 🥰
Here they are working on:
✅️ A nose touch
✅️ Reinforcing that "Rory" means look at me
✅️ Sit with duration until released (as a foundation for stay) 😍
If you're keen to train your puppy with me, send me a message 🌟 I'd love to get to know you, your dog, your training goals, and how I can help!
Who's been practising their "paws up" trick? 😍🐾
If so, here's a training game!
Set up a square of objects that your dog can put their feet on.
Walk between the objects, asking your dog to "paws up" when you approach an object.
Say your reward marker like "yes!" when your dog puts their paws up and give them a treat.
Then say a release cue like "break" or "let's go" and walk to another object.
If your dog rushes ahead, do a loop or walk to a different object. Predicting where you're going = pulling, so keep your dog on their toes!
This game helps with:
✅️ Improving loose leash walking
✅️ Building focus
✅️ Thinking clearly & listening when excited
✅️ Bringing arousal down
✅️ Ignoring distractions
Tag me if you give this a go with your dog - Happy training!
Meet Leo and April 🐶
While we don't recommend it to everyone, if your heart is set on two puppies at once, be prepared to do double the work!
Kristy is only one week into her TWO puppy school programs for Leo and April and she's already smashing it 👏
The first thing we teach puppies is a communication system! Dogs don't speak English so we are teaching them "yes" which means I liked what you just did and a reward is on it's way ✅️ and "break" which means you're free to stop doing what you're doing.
We also teach "luring" which is to follow the food in your hand. We can use this for all sorts of things!
If you're welcoming home a puppy in the next few months, make sure to reach out when you have a pick up date so you don't miss out - we have bookings all the way up to July! 🐾💜
