"Going on a holiday and worried about how to feed your fish while you’re away? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered here at Aquarama! Here are some tips to ensure your fish remain healthy and happy while you’re on your trip:
1. Plan ahead: If you’re only going away for a few days, you might not need to feed your fish during that time. Some fish breeds can survive without food for up to two weeks, so research this beforehand or come on in and ask the staff at Aquarama to see if it’s the best option for you. It’s important not to overfeed them, as this can cause water quality issues.
2. Use a holiday feeding block: If your fish will require food while you’re gone, you can provide them with a holiday feeding block that matches the breed of fish you have. Make sure to trial the feeding block before you go on holiday to see how fast it dissolves and how your fish react to it. Some fish may not perceive this as food which can cause the block to negatively affect the water quality when you’re gone. We have a range of reputable feeding blocks from our friends at AquaOne, Tetra, Marina NutraFin and Biotec.
3. Automatic feeder: An automatic feeder can portion out dry food at regular intervals, ensuring your fish are fed the correct amount while you’re on holiday.
4. Fish sitter: Engage a fish sitter to feed them the correct amount while you’re on holiday.
Before you leave, make sure to do your regular clean the aquarium and complete a water change with a gravel vacuum. Check the filter and replace the sponge or pads on your mechanical filter if necessary. Finally, check your water parameters including the pH, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels to make sure they’re at the correct levels before you leave using a water testing kit or bringing a 100mL sample to us for a water test.
We hope these tips help you enjoy your holiday without worrying about your fish. Happy holidays from our team at Aquarama!" 🐠🐟🐡

How HOT is it?
We are experiencing some lengthy hot days. And you will have to take steps to cool the water in your aquarium.
Here are some suggestions for keeping the water cool and ways to lower the temperature if it goes too high. Aquarium Chillers are your best bet but if a unit is not in your budget see if any of these ideas help to reduce the temperature.
• Keep the aquarium lights turned off. Or use in the coolest part of the day for your plants
• Make sure the room does not receive direct sunlight.
• Increase oxygen by breaking the water surface with your filter’s return and or add an airstone.
• Remove the hood/lids from the tank (use caution if your fish are jumpers
• Place a fan so that it blows directly across the water.
Regardless of which methods you use, be sure to keep the rate of reduction slow, dropping about 1 degree Celsius every eight to ten hours. Remember, rapid water changes are harmful to your fish. You want to keep an eye on your aquarium's water temperature from the time the heatwave starts. You want to do your best to keep your aquarium cool as the room temperature rises, rather than have to find a way to cool it off. We are happt to help you find a solution. Please call in and have a chat to the staff.

Now back in stock.
Geophagus Juripari is a species of cichlid fish that is native to South America, especially the coastal rivers that flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is also known by other common names such as "Red‐Hump Eartheater" or "Jurupari Earth Eater". They are typically found in murky, slow-moving water, and are popular among hobbyists due to their vivid colors and unique behavior. Geophagus Juripari feed mainly on invertebrates, small crustaceans, and insect larvae. These fish are known to create small pits or craters in the substrate in the wild, where they take shelter and search for food. They usually grow up to 25 cm in length and have a lifespan of around 10 years.

Look at these cuties. Neolamprologus Mulifasciatus. Neolamprologus multifasciatus is one of the small shell-dwelling cichlids originating from Lake Tanganyika. The male reaches 5 cm (2 in) in length, and the female only 2.5 cm (1 in) in the aquarium. This makes them one of the smallest cichlid species in the world. Their unique behavior is associated with their affinity to shells. They burrow sand to move shells, take refuge in shells and also breed in them. They have pale white coloring with black vertical bars running the length of their bodies. N. multifasciatus are commonly known as "multies" and are popular because they are suitable for smaller tanks. Water parameters are the same as other African Cichlid species with a higher Ph and hardness. Please include a sandy substrate for burrowing and the placement of shells. A tank should have at least one shell per fish, ideally two. Ours are thriving on Hikari Frozen Mysis and Brine Shrimp and Sera Flora flake food.
