Beautiful Jinky is a 6yr old Ridgeback who presented for surgery to have a raised pigmented mass removed from her right fore paw

The mass was measured and then surgically removed via sterile technique. The mass was then placed in a fixative solution and submitted for histopathology (laboratory analysis)

The photos in the second slide show this process and include the photograph from the laboratory of the microscopic cells that make up the mass. The mass was diagnosed as a Cutaneous Melanocytoma, considered to be a benign (non malignant) mass and thankfully complete surgical excision is usually curative

Jinky was the sweetest and bravest patient 🐾❤️

🌏🐾 WORLD VETERINARY DAY 🐾🌏

Today we celebrate the veterinarians who dedicate their lives to caring for your beloved pets

The World Veterinary Association states that the theme for the 2024 World Veterinary Day is that veterinarians are essential health workers, and that the application of veterinary science contributes not only to animal health and well-being, but also to human physical, social and mental well-being

Our veterinarians spend hours reading, researching and attending lectures, conferences and workshops to ensure that every time they are making a recommendation for your pet, the professional advice and surgical procedure provided is based on absolute best practice guidelines to ensure the best outcome for you and your pet

Thank you to our vets for the time you dedicate to caring for our Wilston Vet community 🐾❤️

A tale of chocolate regret …. Handsome Milo was very mischievous and found the chocolate stash at home !

Thankfully Milo’s wonderful family discovered his transgression and brought him straight into the clinic so we could administer medication to make him bring the chocolate back up before a chocolate toxicity occurred. An anti-nausea medication was then administered to make him feel better again

The following series of photos demonstrate Milo’s instant regret and eventual return to his sweet and happy self

📷 #1: Mischievous Milo
📷 #2: It’s all a blur ….
📷 #3: Chocolate regret
📷 #4: Milo is sweet enough without sweets

Please remember to keep your chocolate and Easter treats away from your pets this Easter - if any cheeky pets find your supply despite your best efforts, please contact the clinic immediately or the Pet Emergency if out of clinic hours 🐾❤️

We have had a number of sick little lorikeets presented to the clinic lately and this has been reported by many other vet clinics in Brisbane and further afield

Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome appears to be a seasonal toxicity that occurs in lorikeets, likely due to ingesting a fermented pollen or toxic plant

This condition has been reported in Southern Queensland and Northern NSW. Wildlife rescue organisation WIRES have provided information on this condition and what to do if you find an affected lorikeet in the following infographic

You can also contact the RSPCA QLD 24/7 Animal Emergency Hotline on 1300 264 625 if you find any affected lorikeets outside of clinic hours

Little Masked Lapwing twins ! Masked Lapwings are also known as Plovers and their parents are known to defend their nests and fledglings by swooping any perceived dangers to their offspring

Unfortunately, these little ones were left to fend for themselves in a dangerous location so they were brought into the clinic by a concerned member of the public. After veterinary assessment they were transferred into the expert care of the RSPCA Wildlife care team 🐥🐥🐾❤️

Is your cat due for a vaccination ? There is an Australia-wide feline vaccination shortage (!)

The Australian Veterinary Association and feline specialists have advised a protocol regarding this vaccination shortage that our veterinarians will discuss with you at the time of your cat’s appointment

It is essential that you schedule your cat for their regular health examinations so that your veterinarian can discuss the best vaccination protocol for your cat and identify any health conditions or concerns

Our team are here to guide you through this time - please contact us if you have any queries 🐾

Meet Pixel, the sweetest Siberian kitten who stole all our hearts when she was in for treatment this week

Pixel’s owners noted changes in her urinary habits and some haematuria (blood in urine). Dr Karen performed a full examination including urinalysis (urine test) and under the microscope detected bacteria indicating a urinary tract infection

After treatment in hospital including pain relief medication, Pixel is now on antibiotics and recovering well 🐾❤️

Swipe to see a photograph taken through the microscope lens of Pixel’s urinalysis showing the bacteria (yellow arrow) and red blood cells (red arrow) 🔬
