Michael’s first competition aquascape. Not a bad effort at all, although nervous with anticipation to start he managed to put it all together in just six hours as did all 13 other contestants. Judging and presentations tomorrow. We are looking forward to the judges critique to learn from the experience.

We are under way at the Dymax aquascaping contest here at the pet show. Michael and 13 others have 5 hours to completely scape, plant and fill their aquarium. Wish them good luck!!

Michael is excited to be competing in the 3rd National Australian Aquascaping competition hosted by Dymax at The Pet Show this weekend held at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. He is looking forward to competing alongside the best aquascapers in the country and improving upon his own skill set and learning more about this great world of aquascaping.

PLANT SPOTLIGHT……. ERIOCAULON RATNAGIRICUM Eriocaulon ratnagiricum, also known as the Ratnagiri pipewort, is a unique and beautiful aquatic plant that requires specific care to thrive.

Lighting: Eriocaulon ratnagiricum requires moderate to high full spectrum lighting for optimal growth.

Water parameters: Eriocaulon ratnagiricum prefers soft, slightly acidic water with a pH between 6.0-7.0. Keep the water temperature between 72-82°F (22-28°C) for best results.

Substrate: Use a nutrient-rich substrate such as aquasoil or a clay-based substrate to provide essential nutrients for the plant’s growth.

Fertilisation: Eriocaulon ratnagiricum is a heavy feeder and will benefit from regular fertilisation. Use a liquid or root tab fertilizer specially formulated for aquatic plants to provide essential nutrients.

Water changes: Regular water changes are important to maintain good water quality and prevent the buildup of harmful substances in the aquarium.

Pruning: Trim any dead or decaying leaves to encourage new growth and prevent the plant from becoming overgrown.

CO2 supplementation: Eriocaulon ratnagiricum will benefit from CO2 supplementation to promote healthy growth and vibrant colors. Consider using a CO2 system to provide the plant with the carbon dioxide it needs.
