Today is our first child’s 9th birthday!! 👏🏻🎂🐶
The big daddy Prince!
I still remember so clearly the day we went to see him for the first time, after looking and looking for months on end, the minute I saw the picture of him I knew!
We drove 2hours to Kent in the UK and the rest is history!
He is what made us fall head over heals in love with this breed, the quirks, humour, personality, stubbornness, farts & all! We took him absolutely everywhere we went (in the UK this is much easier as it’s very dog friendly in shops, cafes, restaurants etc).
He has been there for every one of our human babies coming home, he protects our kids immensely, doesn’t leave their sides when he can. He adores kids, he wants to be around us all the time, even for just a car ride.
He flew from the UK to Australia in 2019, and handled the whole thing so effortlessly. Even when we moved from UK straight to the tropics of North Queensland.
He has a total obsession with balls & balloons. It sounds very cute but it’s not great when he will steal them from a live soccer game and refuses to give it back 🙄
We have had many many men run away from him when they come to the house and he trots out to say hello. He looks like a muscly beast but he wouldn’t hurt a fly!
To get to 9 years old is also very emotional for us, British Bulldogs have an average life expectancy of 8-10 years. Such a short time to be in our lives, but the breed makes every second worth it.
He’s unbelievably healthy for the breed, never had to watch his weight, or deal with ailments. He is so active and loves to go for walks, paddle in the water, play with any toys and play with other dogs.
Fun fact about him becoming a dad, we went to the queensland breeding specialist, people travel from all over Australia to see them. we had his s***m tested in Townsville when he was 6 and it was top notch. When we had him tested at the specialist in Brisbane, they said his s***m had declined rapidly. (A males s***m can change with 24hrs & usually with age this happens). They said we had a 20-30% chance of success and they recommended using a different stud. This wasn’t an option for us, the sole reason we bred is because of the health and build of Prince. Obviously as he came from the country the breed originated in, he is superb quality and high standard. We wanted to breed to help make the breed standard higher and produce healthy pups. But also a bigger reason than this was because we are aware we may have limited time with Prince and we wanted a little Prince to keep to remind us of him and to always have a part of him.
So we used our bulldog stubbornness 🤪 and said it’s either him as the dad or no puppies.
Peach went in for her scan at 4 weeks which is when they are able to see if there is a viable pregnancy happening. She looked the same, acted mostly the same so we ourselves couldn’t tell.
The vet said if she did get pregnant we would be lucky to get one or two pups due to his s***m count.
Well imagine our & the vets surprise when they said she was pregnant with what looked like 4 puppies! 😍
We were over the moon! The old boy still had it in him!
But that wasn’t all the surprises over with, on the day of Peaches C-section the vet said she looked very big for 4 pups and wouldn’t be surprised if there was some kinder surprises in there. I got to be there as the puppies were birthed, and she was right we had 3 extra little baby bully’s in there. THEY HAD 7 PUPS!! 😱😱
He absolutely defied the odds and continued to prove the experts wrong. He is was amazing with all his babies at home, if not a little grumpy when they kept biting his balls 😳😳
Anyway this champion deserves a great birthday, so at the weekend we are going to have a special surprise sorted for him and I’ll upload the video on here so you can all see him living his best life ❤️
HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY PRINCE! 🥳🎂🥳
