Trauma Season for Wildlife

🦘🐨🐞🐢🦆🐑🦎🦜

Trauma season typically lasts from September to February each year and is a time where wildlife are often looking for food, a mate, shelter or looking after their babies.
Due to this movement, more animals are seen in urban areas, leading to increased risk of car accidents, animal attacks, habitat destruction and orphaned young.

There are several things you can do to protect wildlife on our roads.
During dusk and dawn, be mindful on the roads.
Recognise “Wildlife Crossings” and overpasses where animals may frequent.
If you see injured wildlife on the road, please contact 13 ANIMAL or ring us on 3374 1477

Meet this week's canine hero, Murphy! Murphy was so brave and kindly donated his blood. His mum, who is our wonderful practice manager, Court, was more than happy to offer his services to our blood donation program. These donations are very valued and can be used to save another dog's life. We can't thank Court and Murphy enough for their assistance!

Meet UNO 🩶

Little UNO was welcomed to the world by Dr Lucy Jenvey at Brookfield Veterinary Surgery during a cesarian as a singleton puppy. Today UNO visited us all grown up for her first puppy needles! 💉 🐶 ❤️

Meet Cruise💙💙💙
He was rescued by Lucky Paws Rescue. It was discovered he had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia at the University . Not wanting to give up on him the recuse called Brookfields vets to see if we might be able to help . It was going to be a risky anaesthetic and surgery but knowing without surgery he would die Dr Charlie and Dr Cath , nurses Aviel and Becky agreed to take him to surgery . In surgery it was discovered he had two lobes of his liver and most of his intestines in his chest cavity . Obviously being respiratory compromised Nurse Becky had to ventilate for the entire surgery . Drs Charlie and Cath pulled his intestines and liver back into his abdominal cavity where they belonged. They delicately closed up his diaphragm and the communicating hole . Crusie was a fighter and won all of our hearts with his brave , kind and lovely nature . He is now back to being a cheeky loving puppy thanks to all involved in saving him.❤️
