DWDCQ was formed in 2009 to promote the growth of DWD in Queensland.
We welcome members of any level, from absolute beginners to more advanced handlers with any breed of dog. While having its foundation in obedience heelwork, DWD enables the handler to include innovative and creative moves and movement in time to music, giving the illusion of dance.

Huge congratulations to all those that competed and worked tirelessly behind the scenes at the State and National Dances With Dogs and Trick Dog competitions on the week-end. They were certainly a fabulous and entertaining performances.
Congratulations to Michelle Moroney and her lovely dog Emma for achieving the highest scoring DWD team and the Mutley Award for the State Freestyle and National competitions and and the highest National HTM competitions and also the highest overall pointscore for both DWD and Trick Dogs Test.
The highest overall pointscore trohpy was donated by DWD Western Australia and presented by Jill Houston.
Congratulations to Maree Field for receiving the Mutley Award for the highest scoring Freestyle routine at the Nationals.

Are you a beginner and want to start in this sport ?
Since Crufts I have received a lot of enquiries about how to get started in freestyle and HTM. So to help everyone who has contacted me I’m putting on a “learn the basics in freestyle “ interactive zoom training session this Sunday
Watching the advanced routines it can look daunting to start but there are several moves which are easy to start and get you thinking about performing a routine.
🔺 Date - 17th March
🔺 Time - 4pm
🔺 Duration - 45 mins
You will have the opportunity to have a go with your dog during the zoom, you do not need a large area just the size of a large rug.
The only qualification to attend this FREE zoom is that you have never competed so if that’s you private message me or comment below and I will send you the zoom link. This zoom will NOT be recorded so you will need to attend.

Huge Congratulations to Lorna Syrett and Nora (Nora of Beacon) for winning both the UK and International sections of Heelwork to Music at Crufts this year.
A fabulous routine and back story for you both.
Lorna was one of the competitors on the Disney channel program "The Secret Life of Dancing Dogs" a realistic look at the world of dancing dog and their owners.
Lorna has overcome adveristy to be able to perform and shows why and how the bond between both dog and handler can improve both their Lives.

The international Heelwork to Music final was held last night at Crufts. It was nice to see a few of the more unusual breeds performing in DWD.

Good Luck to all our overseas friends competing at Crufts. We will all be watching and cheering from Australia.
For those that do not know what Crufts is, it is one of the biggest dogs shows in the world with competitors coming from many different countries to compete in a variety of dogs sports.
What we call DWD Freestyle is known at Crufts as Heelwork to Music. There will be 3 sections over 3 days, one being their Heelwork to Music (our Freestyle) for members who qualified from Great Britain, with the winner of this section competing in the international section.
The second will be the Heelwork to Music (same as ours) for members from Great Britain and the third will be Heelwork to Music (Freestyle) International.
There is a time zone difference so most of the events will be later at night but keep an eye on here for the event links.

Our first competition for the year was held at Mother Teresa School at Ormeau and what a fun day it was.
Lots of new routines with 5 titles and many quallies being gained.
Well done to everyone involved in the running of this successful competition.

Barbara Murfet is hosting a workshop with Vera Drummond from South Africa on 10 and 11 September. Vera is an amazing presenter who addresses the needs of the individual teams with whom she is working. Although the workshop is not specifically focussed on DWD, DWD handlers and teams will benefit greatly from Vera’s workshop (whether in a working or auditor spot), particularly on the aspects of focus and engagement which are so critical to successful DWD performances.
Barbara has kindly offered a $25 discount to handlers/teams from the Brisbane metropolitan area (including Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast) who are also DWDCQ members. This will be in the form of a $25 rebate after payment of the registration fee and confirmation of DWDCQ membership.
