In Heelwork to Music there are 8 positions (left and right heel; left and right reverse heel; across the front in both directions; across the back in both directions) and in an Advanced HTM routine we expect to see most if not all of those positions demonstrated (including some duration, not just a fleeting moment) including movement in a variety of directions (forwards, backwards, lateral). This routine from Brianna and Molly at last weekend's competition is a lovely demonstration of doing just that:

Another award from the Dogs Queensland annual Dog Sports luncheon and presentations held on 16 February was the Freestyle Dog of the Year. This award was won by Maree Field and Halo - Halo RN, TKI, FSI, HTMN. Halo is a young dog whose skills and performances go well beyond what one would normally expect in a Novice routine.

Congratulations to Maree and Halo. Here is their beautiful Freestyle Novice routine from the 2024 Ekka. It’s easy to see why they won the Dog of the Year award with performances like this.

Yesterday the Dogs Queensland annual Dog Sports luncheon and presentations were held and the Dog of the Year award recipients were announced. Michelle Moroney and Emma - OGrCh, RCh Emma RAE, TKA, FSS, HTMS - won the Heelwork to Music Dog of the Year award and, looking at this video of their HTM Starters routine, it's easy to understand why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDRPStRY7mA

They also won the Trick Dog Dog of the Year award, with an average score, over 6 tests, of 99.84.

Emma is also an Obedience Grand Champion and Rally Champion. That means that she has years of experience of being glued to Michelle's left side with left heel her default position. What a fabulous job Michelle has done in training her in other HTM positions (right side, reverse left and reverse right, and across the front) and directions of movement (forwards, backwards and laterally). Congratulations to a fabulous team and we look forward to seeing your progression in our sport.

The Club's first DWD competition of the year was held on Saturday 15 February. It was a small competition but there were some lovely routines. Highest score for the day was Rebecca and Indiana - their first DWD competition ever, and first place in Freestyle Starter. We look forward to seeing more of them into the future.

It was also great to see several new teams dipping their toe into the water in our Rookies class.

The magnificent venue at the Ekka (Brisbane Royal).
Well done to everyone who competed, won, placed and qualified, you made our judges Coral, Angela and Maxine earn their keep today.
The crowds showed their appreciation for our wonderful dogs and handlers with lots of OOO’s, ARRRR’s and cheers.

Huge congratulations to all those that competed and worked tirelessly behind the scenes at the State and National Dances With Dogs and Trick Dog competitions on the week-end. They were certainly a fabulous and entertaining performances.
Congratulations to Michelle Moroney and her lovely dog Emma for achieving the highest scoring DWD team and the Mutley Award for the State Freestyle and National competitions and and the highest National HTM competitions and also the highest overall pointscore for both DWD and Trick Dogs Test.
The highest overall pointscore trohpy was donated by DWD Western Australia and presented by Jill Houston.
Congratulations to Maree Field for receiving the Mutley Award for the highest scoring Freestyle routine at the Nationals.
