‼️ Paralysis Ticks ‼️

Although commonly associated with the summer period, ticks can be seen all year round!

These tiny pests are a serious threat and if left untreated can cause life-threatening effects to our pets.

Once a tick attaches to the skin, it immediately starts feeding on the animals blood. While doing so, it injects a neurotoxin that interferes with their nervous system causing nerve signals to be blocked, leading to paralysis.

Some signs to look out for are:
🐾 Weakness/wobbling
🐾 Paralysis
🐾 Collapsing
🐾 Vomiting/Retching
🐾 Difficulty Breathing
🐾 Change of Bark or Meow

The first signs can be subtle and commonly start with weakness or loss of use in the hind legs however, they can progress quickly.

If you notice these symptoms, it is best to address them in a calm manner. We want to avoid making our pet excited or stressed as this can worsen the effects.

Luckily, ticks are easy to avoid! There are a range of options to prevent ticks, such as yummy monthly/three monthly chews, or spot-ons. We even now offer a yearly injection, making prevention that much easier!

Most importantly, contact either us 3808 1085, your local vet or emergency clinic as soon as you notice any of these signs.

‼️ Blankets Wanted ‼️

Do you have some old blankets laying around?
We are in need!

Specifically soft, thinner, easily washable blankets, that our patients can feel comfortable laying on. Similar to the grey blanket you can see in the photo!

Rather than throwing them out, donate them to our patients in need 🧡💚

We would like to take some time to give a warm welcome to our newest member of the Daisy Hill grooming team, Celia! 🎉🎉

Celia has been apart of the grooming industry for the past 3 years. She enjoys many different grooming styles but specialises in short body clips, breed specific clips, and Asian fusion (teddy bear face, short body, and fluffy legs).

Celia will be working closely with our senior groomer, Tonia to help familiarise herself with the clinic and our grooming clients!

She will be working Monday to Friday and accepting new clients throughout the week!

Welcome to the team Celia, it is a pleasure to have you aboard! 🐾🐶

☀️ Heat Safety ☀️

As temperatures rise, it is important to remember that our pets can suffer for heat-related issues too!

Heatstroke, dehydration, and burns are real dangers for pets especially during hot weather.

‼️ If you notice your pet excessively panting, drooling, restless, with an increased heart rate, or darker gums, contact us on 3808 1085 or your local emergency clinic ‼️

Here are a few tips to keep them safe and comfortable as Mr. Kitty here:

1. Limit outdoor time with direct sunlight, especially during the hotter periods of the day (between 10am-4pm) If outside, ensure there is an avaliable shady spot for them to cool down.

2. Hydration is key! Ensure you have constant water available.

3. Never leave your dog in the car. Even with the windows down, cars can heat up extremely quickly.

4. Cooling enrichment. Freeze some of their favourite treats or toys and give it to them like an ice block! Not only does it keep them cool but also occupied for hours!

Work with us to keep our furry friends safe from this heat!

We have received such positive feedback and love seeing how comfortable our patients have been feeling without the stress being in the clinic may bring.

If you’re interested contact us on 3808 1085 for more information 🚐🐾
