Never ok

It is NEVER OK 🙅‍♀️ to keep a native animal for any period of time when trained and licenced volunteers are only a phone call 🤳 away. In fact, it's actually illegal 👮‍♂️.

This poor girl was taken from her dead mums pouch and kept for 5 days 🖐 with 2 broken limbs 🦵 because the finder refused to hand her to wildlife carers 🏥 or take her to a vet 🩺. To make matters worse, her injuries are also possibly from being removed from the pouch by her legs. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 🙏 never do that either. Advice on how to safely remove a baby 👶 from a pouch is also only a phone call away.

Sadly 😭, because she didn't receive the immediate veterinary care 👩‍⚕️ that she needed, we couldn't save this precious baby 🪦💕.

Dozens of possums are making a new home in Central Australia after being flown hundreds of kilometres from Kangaroo Island, as ecologists seek to re-establish a brushtail population in the Red Centre.

What a wonderful day with the most wonderful of people! As carers we don't do what we do for recognition, but with our club president Kerry Jane Schilling being as selfless, dedicated and hard-working as she is to our beautiful wildlife, it's a recognition well deserved. Kerry received an opportunity from a fellow wildlife lover and entertainer Scott Wright to attend a sensational exhibition ARC ERTH at the playhouse theatre today.

With Kerry's carer Shannon and littlest carer in the making, Shannon's daughter Lorelei, we dove into a beautiful, emersive puppetry masterpiece that shone a light over our wildlife message and raised donations for our amazing club.

We are so grateful to Scott and his wonderful team at ERTH Visual & Physical Inc. for such a wonderful and creatively artistic display of nature with some factual messages poetically shared to all whom attended.

There were many animals portrayed in the show and of course the star an Aussie native possum front and centre!

WHY WE RESCUE
For animal lovers like me, animal rescue is the most incredible, rewarding job... in the history of ever.
At the same time... it's also the most heartbreaking...
The truth is...
You see a lot of things... you never thought you'd see.
You witness a level of cruelty... you didn't think was possible.
You feel a degree of helplessness... you never thought you'd know.
You stare at painful images... soon burned into your memory... that will haunt your thoughts forever.
You try to pick up the pieces... so many pieces... of the damage you didn't do.
You do everything in your power... but even still... you'll never reach them all.
You'll try to stay strong... but you'll mostly feel weak.
You'll build walls to protect your heart... but they'll never keep you safe.
You'll place barriers around your soul... but the pain will always reach you.
And no matter how hard you try to fight it... over time... here's the truth about what happens in animal rescue...
The neglect changes you.
The abuse hardens you.
The suffering breaks you.
The ignorance angers you.
The indifference disturbs you.
The injustice destroys you.
On a daily basis... your faith will be tested.
Your heart will be wounded.
Your soul will be altered.
On a weekly basis... you'll question yourself.
You'll question your strength.
You'll question the world.
On a monthly basis... you'll fall down.
You'll get up.
You'll go on...
On a yearly basis... you'll look back...
You'll see faces...
You couldn't save them.
You'll learn to mourn.
To grieve.
To sob.
You'll learn to trust a little less.
To do a little more.
To fight a little harder.
You'll learn to try.
To hope.
To pray.
You'll learn to fail.
To succeed.
To accept.
You'll learn when to hold on.
When to give up.
When to let go.
You'll learn who you are.
What you stand for.
Why that matters.
Then... at times... you'll forget why you matter.
You'll question what you're doing.
You'll wonder if it's worth it.
But... here's the good news...
When you forget...
When you question...
When you wonder...
All you have to do...
Is take a look around...
And you'll see them.
You'll see their faces.
You'll see their smiles.
You'll feel their love.
In their eyes, you'll see their journeys...
You'll remember their beginnings...
You'll know how far they've come...
You'll remember when they didn't know you...
When they didn't trust you...
When they'd given up.
You'll remember how you healed them...
How you loved them...
How they loved you, too.
And as you look back...
You'll want to move forward...
For them... and because of them.
In your darkest hours, you'll look around...
To find the differences made... the hope given... and the lives saved...
Because you existed.
In those moments, when you look into their eyes... every doubt will be erased.
Every question will be answered.
Every worry will subside.
Because in that instant... in each of your hearts...
You both share the very same thought:
"Every bit of pain was worth it... for this moment here with you."
And honestly... no matter what else happens...
Those moments hold all the strength you need...
To keep going.
Rescue is pain.
Rescue is joy.
Rescue is worth it... because they are worth it.
And that's the honest truth.

Hi, I'm a tipple, NOT a mosquito.

You kill me without me being a danger to anyone, actually I'm a help. I don't suck blood, but I feed on the nectar of flowers helping to pollinate them. Now that you know me please don't kill me, if I mistakenly enter your house, walk me out, don't be like everyone who destroys what they can't understand.

Rare Golden Brushtail Possum Spotted in SE Queensland! 😮

Here’s some floof that will brighten your Friday night! 🌟 Say hello to this adorable golden brushtail possum! Her unique hue is the result of a rare genetic mutation called leucism, which reduces melanin levels in the skin and fur. 🐾

Despite her stunning appearance, the light colouration makes her more vulnerable to predators, posing challenges for survival in the wild.

Yolande Alcorn first spotted the beautiful brushy Mum with her joey in 2021 and was excited to see her again just last week... 📸✨

Hello, I’m Pip. I’m a little kangaroo. I don’t remember much from when I was in my Mum’s pouch, but I remember feeling warm and safe. Mum always kept me close, and I liked it there. It was snug, and I could hear her heart beating.

But one day, everything changed. There was a loud noise, and then my Mum was still. It got cold, so cold. I missed my Mum’s warmth and her gentle hops. I curled up as tight as I could, trying to stay warm, but I was so scared. I heard some noises, but it wasn’t my Mum.

Then a human Mum found me. She was kind and gentle, like my real Mum. She picked me up and wrapped me in something soft and warm. It felt good, like being back in the pouch. She held me close and whispered to me, telling me I was safe. I snuggled into her, and for a little while, I didn’t feel so scared. I think she loved me, and I liked that.

Even though my human mum was very kind, I knew I couldn’t stay with her. I was much too small to be outside of my Mum’s pouch, I needed my real Mum, but she was gone. My human Mum kept me warm and safe until I could go back to be with my Mum. I think she knew that I wasn’t strong enough to live with her, but she took care of me anyway. I hope she knows I was grateful.

I don’t know what happened that day, but my Mum was hit by something big and fast. If you drive on the road, we need you to watch for us, especially at night and early in the morning. And if you accidentally hit us, please stop and check for a joey, all alone in Mum’s pouch. I’m only small, but my life matters. I want everyone to know that there are other joeys out there who need your help. Please, please be careful on the road. We need you to keep us safe.

One of our carers Em Vic Breeze shares- My possum Sweet Pea went to Kerrys for pre release on the weekend. And this is my new baby “Peter” (named by me) that came from Kerrys verandah possums. He is very chubby bubby. Still timid around me but I think he and I will be friends eventually.
