Isn't it annoyingly true that the guilt about what you haven’t done yet makes a much LOUDER NOISE in your head than the JOY and PRIDE at what you HAVE achieved. So turn down the volume dial on the negative and up on the good stuff and let's focus on what is possible, how far we have come, and what we achieved. Take a moment to celebrate you today! ❤️

It's like snuggling a cloud 😍

Puppies are well known for eating things they shouldn’t- shoes, toys, pegs, plants! Basically whatever they can find around the place 🙈⁣ Here’s a few ways to puppy proof your home... ⁣⁣

1. Buy specifically designed puppy chew TOYS have a great range of puppy toys many of which also provide dental and educational benefits. ⁣⁣
2. Put any INDOOR PLANTS out of reach and remove any toxic ones altogether such as calla lilies, aloe vera and ⁣ivy.⁣
3. Puppy-proof the RUBBISH BIN with a secure lid- the garbage contains some of the most dangerous items puppies can swallow such as corn cobs, bbq skewers and meat tray inserts ⁣⁣
4. SHOES and SOCKS are endlessly fascinating for some puppies and one of the most common objects we remove surgically after they are swallowed. Have a laundry basket with a lid for dirty clothes and put clean ones away in the drawers. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Never underestimate what a puppy can get into or onto if they are curious enough or smell something interesting.

Puppies are completely dependant on us for everything including their SAFETY which is a big responsibility but totally worth it for the cuteness and love they bring ❤️🐶⁣

RESPONSIBILITY is something I take very seriously. I never underestimate the huge amount of courage it takes for an owner to hand over their beloved pet into our care. Especially in emergency, as often we have no prior relationship with them because they have never been to us before. Regardless of how busy I am I always take the time to LISTEN TO OWNERS, reassure them that they did the right thing, they are in the best place and that I will do my best to take care of their pet as if it was my own.⁣

As a veterinarian it is important that we take regular moments to acknowledge that it is a gift to be able to care for these pets in their time of need, and a privilege to be trusted with their lives. 😊

Teach New Tricks Regardless of Age!
We know learning new things helps keep our minds sharp and alert, and it's the same for our beloved pets. Learning doesn’t stop as pets age. So invest time in teaching them and mastering new tricks or commands, no matter their age. This keeps their mind sharp and enhances cognitive function. Plus, it’s a great way to strengthen your bond and gives them a sense of purpose. 🐾

We're almost towards the end of January .. did you have any resolutions? How are they going? Here are some tips for helping you to set the right goals for this year!

1️⃣ Reflect & Learn: Look back at last year - what worked and what didn't? Use these insights to shape smarter goals for this year. 🤔

2️⃣ Identify Key Areas: Goals should cover both professional growth (like mastering a new surgical technique) and personal interests (maybe you're into photography or fitness?). 🏥📸

3️⃣ Be Specific: Vague aspirations get us nowhere. Set clear, measurable goals - like attending two vet conferences this year or dedicating an hour weekly to learning. ⌚

But don't forget the fun! Balancing career goals with hobbies is essential for our well-being. Whether it's hitting the gym or nurturing your creative skills, make sure to include what you love in your resolutions.

remember: Realistic, specific, and enjoyable goals are the key to lasting success and fulfillment. ✨

If any of my wildlife colleagues know of a possible feather donor match for Stan please let me know so we can get him back into the air again 🦅

A Byron Bay vet team is searching for a suitable feather donor for a procedure they hope will help get an injured wedge-tailed eagle soaring again.

IT'S NOT WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE that holds you back. It's who you think you're NOT 🤔

Your brain 🧠 is always trying to protect you- (once upon a time it was from sabre tooth tigers!) but nowadays it from that SURGERY you've never done before or that PRESENTATION you have to give to your colleagues. It's meant to feel scary 😬 and uncomfortable. The GROWTH comes when you start to recognise that 'feeling' and instinctively start to lean into it instead of wanting to run away from it 🏃‍♀️

Being confident on camera is a skill that I really had to work on, so much is online nowadays so it is important that we work to enhance our presence in videos, live streams, online interviews, courses and virtual meetings or consults.

Here are five tips that helped me to project confidence and charisma, even if I was still scared.

Practice Regularly: Familiarity breeds confidence. Practice speaking and presenting in front of a camera regularly. Record yourself to watch later and critique your performance. Yes it will be hard at first but over time, you'll become more comfortable and natural.

Prepare: Know your material inside and out. Whether it's a script, talking points, or a structured outline, being well-prepared reduces anxiety and boosts your confidence. This doesn't mean you have to memorise everything, but being familiar with your content allows you to speak more fluidly.
Mind Your Body Language: Your body language speaks volumes. Stand or sit up straight, make eye contact with the camera lens (as if it's a person you're talking to), and use natural gestures. Avoid closed-off postures like crossed arms. Smiling naturally can also make you appear more approachable and confident.
Dress for Success: Wear clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable, and ensure they look good on camera. Avoid overly bright colors and busy patterns that can be distracting on screen. Looking the part can give you an extra boost of confidence.

Breathe and Relax: Before going on camera, take a few deep breaths to calm your nerves. Speak slowly and clearly. If you make a mistake, don't panic; just pause, breathe, and continue. Remember, everyone makes mistakes, and it's your ability to recover gracefully that shows true confidence.
Practice is key, so keep at it, and you'll see improvement with each session!

That look 🐱 ... when can I play with the boxes and wrapping paper? Cats are naturally curious and enjoy exploring new objects and environments and boxes and paper are amongst their favourites as they present new textures, sounds, and hiding spots, stimulating their curiosity. It is so important for cats to play as it satisfies a range of needs, from the physical to the psychological .
