Training from goatvetoz
There was a lot of interest in my worm egg counting course after I posted about a microscope a past student wanted to sell as she was going out of goats. Did you know I have 4 recorded Zoom webinars with associated notes. They are on my website i.e. https://goatvetoz.com.au/training . I am currently writing the notes for another one on Urinary calculi prevention. This will re place the kidding on which I will redo next year. Email me if interested - [email protected]. I need your email to send the notes for each course and the Zoom link and password,

Open your goats mouths to check the front incisors and if worn down give them chaff. Feel along the jaws in case molars are sharp or 1 is missing and get a vet to examine if there is a problem, especially if the goat drops feed from its mouth. https://www.sheepandgoat.com/_files/ugd/aded98_facab052aca44808abf3b3d1d0aa4ca4.pdf?fbclid=IwY2xjawGrPS5leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHZ0Qe7zBIAmgEA8TkXOYEq4I22mBhcKPW_5ViUSR0_zdP4PK8_OwVZ5UQA_aem_qc5oimM-edW0FANcU1ah-g Good to see CAE and Johne's disease is mentioned - keep these diseases out of your herd by only buying from accredited free herds. Check the MAP register or demand to see yearly blood test results.

New scientific reference on rumination in goats
While interesting that rumination is not associated with feeding, I don't know why this animal ethics committee approved fasting these 4 goats for 4 days. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-79586-7 There was no real difference between summer and winter.

Rumination shows a nocturnal rhythmic pattern in day-active ruminants. Although feeding has been shown to quantitatively modulate rumination, it is not clear yet if feeding rhythm plays a causal role in rumination rhythm. The present study was carried out to determine whether the daily rhythm of rum...

Some nice feedback on BioWorma
Note not all herds are doing as well so keep checking them
"As per the results below from WormCount, I continue to have zero EPGs.
My younger goats have just turned 4 years and I've never had to drench them thanks to BioWorma.
Thanks again for putting me on to it. It's saved me time and money and it's rewarding to have my goats in great condition.

Poisonous Plants
Recent rains have germinated w**d seeds and some of these may be poisonous to your goats. Goats lack the ability to know not to eat poisonous plants. Check your paddocks for poisonous plants https://au.pinterest.com/goatvetoz/dangerous-plants-never-feed-to-goats/ . My board has photos and links to websites that will help.

This is why you must do a DrenchCheck
Recently I diagnosed Q drench resistance (so the worms were resistant to white drenches, levamisole, abamectin and closantel- the last only kills barbers pole worms). According to my calculations, these are the worm egg counts the owner should have gotten at 14 days post Qdrench treatments if Qdrench was 95% effective :
C1 40 epg (was 400)
C2 40 epg (was 200)
H1 55 epg ((was 700)
H2 - actually went up so QDrench had no effect at all
H3 - 15 epg (was 300)
The owner was advised to never use Qdrench again and to use Zolvix Plus instead as it has a new active from a different family. The owner also got a range of recommendations about managing the pastures and the goats.

Do you know if your drench is working properly ? Do a DrenchCheck i.e. worm egg counts before and exactly 14 days after drenching and ideally larval cultures as well. At 14 days any worm eggs must be from worms that survived the drench. You don't do them earlier as sometimes the drench makes the worms sick so they don't lay any eggs but aren't killed.
