Neighbourhood Farm grows flowers now !

We’re excited to be bringing you super local chemical free (so you can shove your nose right into ‘em!) cut flowers grown for pollinators first. Recently we’ve seen first hand a drop in pollination in our veg so we thought we’d do something about it. And you’ll benefit from it too!

Unlike traditional cut flower farms our head pollinator .pots is leaving half to the bugs and the birds. Even in this first small trial period she’s reported a massive leap in bee action. 🐝 🤸

Soon we’ll be offering bunches of the most delicious flowers for you to enjoy at home too. What could possibly be better! 🌼

We had an amazing group of participants visit the farm on the weekend from the VoRTCS Program - (Volunteer Refugee Tutoring and Community Support). They were celebrating their time working together improving english language skills and providing support for refugees entering into the community.

We had a jam packed day starting with a farm tour followed by a grow your own veggies workshop with take home seedlings 🌱Traditional Congolese food was prepared along with freshly made salads from the farm.

We want to thank everyone for such an enjoyable day and for allowing us to host an incredible group of people on the farm.

Planting crew of 2025 🧄🧄🥔🥔

Our annual planting at Natural Bridge began with collecting the best of our previous year’s garlic and breaking down cloves over dinner and a few quiet drinks ready for an early start.

Beds were prepped exposing the dark rich sandy soil with perfect moisture from the recent rains. This year we decided to expand into growing a few varieties of potato’s has been working on over the last few seasons. Rows were marked, holes were dug and planting soon commenced making quick work with so many hands. All the beds were mulched to suppress weeds and keep moisture in the soil. We finished the day off with a farm lunch and a well earned swim in the creek.

This is a favourite time of year with the cool change of autumn finally kicking in and working together with a great group of friends.

Now we wait with the hope of a good season and abundant harvest later in the year!

Our community lunch and fundraiser was a big success! We were able to raise just over $6000 altogether from our ticket sales raffle and auction! None of this would have been possible without the generous donations from our friends!

Our Elephant Garlic harvest coming just in time before the heavy rain this week at Natural Bridge. It’s been great working with Jono on this crop over the past couple of years. It’s the first time we’ve had to move our previous garlic harvest out to make room! Looking forward to sharing with our customers over the next few months.

We enjoyed another weekend with a great crew completing there Master Composter Course with . The day began with a farm tour then a deep dive into composting with Kris talking about the many composting methods used on the farm. We also had a visit from Brian “The Worm Man” talking all things worms and soldier flies. Such a fun day with enthusiastic people ready to start their own composting journey.

Terra Madre! What a caldron of cultures ideas and inspiration. With all the success of small scale slow food producers at the event there was a serious conversation about the state of our food system as a whole.

The fight to keep local food at the forefront defending the rights and traditions of community’s, local economies and protecting biodiversity on our planet was central to many discussions during the event.

One workshop ‘The future we want: young people share best practice in the lowlands’a quote that stuck with me was ‘biodiversity is the most important heritage we have’

Many of the discussions focussed on the importance of Agroecology a concept that utilises a holistic and integrated approach that applies ecological and social concepts to the design and management of sustainable agriculture and food systems.

The work that is being done from youth to elders, communities to countries, coming together for a future to replenish, restore and regenerate our food systems was an overwhelmingly positive force to witness.

Feeling reenergised for the work we do on our farm and an appreciation for all the people that make it possible. Great to meet the Australian cohort who are all working on a better food system. Again a big thank you for the opportunity.

Our Story

Neighbourhood Farm is a small scale, bio intensive, urban farm situated on an acre of fertile soil in Oxley. We produce locally grown food for the neighbourhood and surrounding areas of Brisbane. The farm is run by Matt and Micah, two young farmers passionate about local food and sustainable agriculture. Plenty of work has gone into the farm over the past year to build a vibrant and productive growing space embedded within the community. You can find us at our farm gate stall every Friday afternoon.
