Rufus (the white dog) has been training with us for a few months and has been attending group classes for the last 2 months. He used to bark at other dogs, people and was fearful of many things. Since he started attending group training he's gone from strength to strength and you'll typically see him strutting around the field like he owns the show! Murphy the Portugese Water Dog struggles with aggression towards strangers. He's been working with us for a few months now and this week in our lesson we challenged him with a trip to bunnings! This is a big step for a dog who struggles with strangers but Murphy handled it so well and was a total star! Bentley was extremely dog reactive before he started work with us. He did a 5 week board and train package last year and now he's back for a couple extra weeks training. When I'm short on time and have dogs that need a training session I will ALWAYS pick play! It's my number 1 activity for exercise, mental stimulation, prey drive satisfaction and relationship building. This is an entire play session (at double speed) with Bentley, who's here for more training and he loved it! In under 3 minutes I was able to give him a good run, tug, chase and brain work and he was more than happy to go veg our afterwards! Loose lead walking with one dog can be tricky, doing it with 2 can be even harder and then throw in the fact that this is a 10 year old handling 2 high drive Border Collies and it could be a whole lot harder. But it wasn't. Why? Because I trained these two dogs to walk on a loose lead when they were young. I've spent hours and hours working with them to ensure they can do this anywhere. And then I taught my son how to handle them, which was the easiest bit! We're back at work and getting back into training. Here's a snippet from Pixie's lesson last week working on her dog reactivity. Sometimes with reactive dogs we need to work at big distances to help build skills and exposure without reactions. Only a few weeks ago Pixie couldn't see a dog from any distance without any epic reaction and now we can let her see a dog and are helping her learn that she doesn't need to react. Penny, who was with us for boarding lent a hand as a distraction dog - she was dog reactive once too but now she can help another reactive dog!!! #dogtraining #looseleadwalking #reactivedog #bordercollie #amstaff
