How clever is little Freya? She started working on place training recently and we employed Luke's help in her session this week to challenge her impulse control further. And clever pup that she is, she absolutely nailed it!

Can you tell what shape we're making in our group class loose lead walking session this week?

Our group classes are so much fun! We love providing these for our clients to help further their training! Most of these dogs were once reactive and now look at them all!
Note - Our group classes are only available for clients who have already worked through a private training program first.

Sometimes more is better (and sometimes it's not). Puppy Zero is a little nervous of strangers so in today's session we worked on her confidence and bravery with the kids, a new person and a dog! She did so well and totally rose to the challenge!
One of the advantages of having a professional trainer working with you is we can help you learn when more is a good thing and when it isn't!

Impulse control! We love challenging our client's dogs during group class with exercises like this. Can the dog stay on the mat when being spoken to, offered a treat or someone coming near to pat them. We're looking for the dog to choose to stay on mat and resist the temptation.
Harry struggled with this at first but then nailed it!
Remember, your dog's obedience is only ever going to be as good as what you've challenged them with! We call this process proofing and it's the process of teaching a dog that a given behaviour must be performed reliably and the same all the time even with various and differing distractions!
How would your dog do?

Harry the German Spitz has been with us for the last week to work on his life skills. Here he is rocking his loose lead walking at the park around other dogs!

Monday Check In!
How was your weekend? We stayed dry and trained dogs in the shed - how awesome that we have a space like this to train!?

Another awesome success for a client this week!
You might remember Bear from earlier this year, he's human aggressive (and will bite, my leg attests to that) and dog aggressive.
His dedicated owners have worked hard and yesterday in his final private session we challenged him at the park. Look at him go next to the dog park with a dog running the fence and barking at him!

Rex the Border Collie wrapped up the private training component of his course this week - next step is group classes!
For a dog who has been unable to be walked for months due to his intense dog reactivity he looks pretty good!! Even with an excitable puppy pulling towards him and staring at him!
If you are struggling with a reactive dog please know there is hope! Rex is a very different dog from who he was when we first met him and we'd love to help you with your dog too.

10 teams braved last night's rain to come to training - you guys all rock!
This is Cage's second life skills class and he looks awesome! 3 months ago this fellow would have blown up at the sight of just one dog and he would have had a full-blown meltdown over being in a group setting like this... what a big change!
What do you want your dog to look like in 3 months time? We can help!

Reactivity rehabilitation is slow and often needs to involve lots of repetitions of seemingly boring exercises like this one.
Bentley did a board and train program with us 2 months ago and dropped back in for a few days of boarding so we were able to do some more work with him.
When we first met him he couldn't see another dog from any distance without exploding, now he's starting to learn that seeing dogs doesn't require him to do anything at all... he's also learning that looking at dogs is ok and he's starting to feel calmer and happier about seeing dogs.
An important thing to note from this clip is we don't avoid dogs, we don't distract him from seeing the other dogs but we do reward him for looking at them calmly and we are ready to step in and help him if he struggles at any point!

What did you and your pups get up to on the weekend?
Kimba (the Malinois) is with us this week for boarding so she joined Astro (Labrador) and Zip for a nice walk!
