Graduating from the University of QLD Gatton in 2020🩺, Lauren has a special interest in small animal dentistry, where she focuses on helping pets maintain their dental health 🦷. Her passion for animals and her work shines through every day.🪥

With her red hair🥕, warm smile😁, and bubbly personality, Lauren’s positive energy is contagious. Whether she’s connecting with coworkers or making sure pet owners feel at ease, she’s known for creating a comforting presence wherever she goes.

In her spare time, Lauren enjoys cuddling with her cat🐱, Westly, a red Burmese who always keeps her on her toes. Westly, being a little bit of a “problem fur child,” is currently battling diabetes, which means Lauren’s vet brain never gets to turn off – even at home! This also means she’s always up to date with the latest information on diabetes in cats 💻, ensuring she can provide the best care for her own fur baby and others in need.

‼️🚨📣 Important Notice for Pet Owners!!

The company running HomeSafelD (Microchip pet registry) has gone into receivership, and the future of the register is uncertain. If your pet's microchip is registered with HomeSafelD, please act now to ensure your pet's registration is current with your local council/ shire/city. This will greatly help if your pet gets lost and needs to be reunited with you.

What you need to do:
1. Check your pet's microchip registration at www.petaddress.com.au to see which register your pet is listed with.
2. If registered with HomeSafelD, ensure your pet's details are registered and current with your local council/shire/city (Pet registration and microchipping are 2 different things).
3. Add a personalised ID tag with your contact details on your pet's collar.
4. Re register your pet's microchip number with a different provider (e.g. AAR).
While vets and rangers can currently access the HomeSafelD register, we don't know how long this will continue. Please Dont risk losing contact with your pet-update your pet registration today!

🌟 Meet Belinda! 🌟

Belinda grew up in Brisbane and graduated from the University of Queensland’s Vet School in 2009. Since then, she’s been caring for dogs, cats, and even the occasional fish, turtle, and frog across SE QLD in both animal practices and welfare organizations.

She first joined the My Own Vet team as a locum in 2021, and after falling in love with the team, our amazing clients, and all the furry (and scaly!) friends that come through the doors, she decided to make it her permanent home!

Belinda is passionate about being a vet and loves finding the best solutions and treatments for your pets and families. She has a special interest in endocrine conditions, dermatology, and caring for our senior patients. 🐾❤️

When she’s not at the clinic, Belinda is a busy mum to 2 young kids. She loves bushwalking, raising frogs, reading, and spending quality time with her family. 🌿📚

Meet Dr Saul Chemonges 🐾 – a highly experienced and dedicated PhD-qualified veterinarian 👨🏿‍🎓 with a fascinating career journey. Originally from Uganda (East Africa), Saul furthered his expertise at The University of Queensland (UQ), specializing in small animal medicine, surgery, and pain management. After working in Brisbane, he moved to Hong Kong, where he not only worked but also established his own veterinary clinic‼️
Saul's groundbreaking research has earned him an industry prize from a multinational animal health company for his work on regulating body temperature in dogs during surgery. His research on a flesh-eating fly in Hong Kong, which posed a risk to pet dogs and affected pet migration to Australia, continues to make waves in the veterinary world.🌊

When he's not advancing veterinary science,🩸🩺 Saul enjoys quality time with his young family and companion animals, collecting quirky antiques ☎️, photographing 📸 road signs 🚧, and playing lawn tennis 🎾.

This sweet little girl showed up last Saturday at 8pm, meowing for help! Luckily, Dr. Ahmed was still in the clinic caring for our patients. 😻

Turns out, she knew exactly where to go – her tummy was huge! We did an x-ray, and surprise – she’s pregnant and about to give birth any day now! She surprised us on Tuesday with the gift of life (and kittens).

Imagine wearing a fur coat in 37° Heat! 🥵

🌞 Summer in Australia can be tough on our furry friends, especially double-coated dogs! 🐾 Just look at the hair pile in this picture—it's almost as big as the dog itself! 😱

Regular grooming is essential to keep our dogs comfortable and healthy during the hot months. A double coat can trap heat and moisture, leading to overheating and skin issues.

By removing excess fur, we help them stay cool and avoid matting, which can cause discomfort and skin problems.
So, remember to brush your dog and consider a professional groom to help them shed that winter coat! Your pup will thank you with wagging tails and happy, healthy days in the sun. 🌞🐶💨

There has been a heatwave declared in several regions. ☀️ Extreme heat can be dangerous for pets, so it's more important than ever to keep your pets cool and safe. 🌡Never leave pets in a parked car! Even on mild days or in the shade, a car's interior can heat up rapidly, reaching life-threatening temperatures in minutes. 💧Make sure your pets always have access to plenty of fresh, cool water. ☀️Give your pets a cool place to rest in the shade or, if possible, bring them indoors near a fan or air conditioning. 🐶 Avoid walking your dog during the middle of the day. Hot pavements can burn their paws, so stick to early mornings or late evenings. Freeze treats or water with kibble inside for your pets to lick and enjoy. Even simple ice cubes can be a refreshing way for them to cool off. 🐈 Though cats are normally pretty self-sufficient and stay cool by seeking shade and limiting activity, they can still overheat.
