πŸŽ… Might you be getting a puppy for Christmas? πŸŽ…

Getting a puppy is always such an exciting time, and you will never forget the Christmas you got a puppy! It is important to remember that puppies grow into dogs and are a 12-15 year commitment.

Make sure you are ready for that commitment and have prepared yourself with all the things your new puppy will need, such as bedding, a crate, quality food, toys, puppy preschool, and pet insurance.

🌟 It's called the silly season for a reason 🌟

Try to take some time out this holiday season to spend with your pet. Whether it's a longer walk, an extra treat, or a snuggle on the couch while you watch Christmas movies, we know your pet will just lap up the extra love!

🍫 Do you know the signs of chocolate toxicity in dogs? 🍫

Theobromine and caffeine are the culprit ingredients, causing symptoms ranging from gastrointestinal upset to a fast heart rate, cardiac arrhythmias, even seizures!

The higher the cocoa content in the chocolate, the more dangerous is it for your dog; although milk chocolate can still be dangerous depending on the size of your dog and the amount consumed.

If you suspect your dog has consumed chocolate, the best thing to do is act fast and call a veterinarian, who can tell you if a toxic dose has been consumed and if veterinary attention is required. If you have an emergency over the holiday period and we are closed, please contact Animal Emergency Services at Underwood (3423 1888) or Animal Emergency Centre at Stones Corner (3456 0500).

πŸŽ„ Did you know that there are many dangers hidden in your Christmas tree? πŸŽ„

From strings of lights to tinsel, even glass ornaments - there is plenty of mischief your pet could get into! Make sure that your pets are always supervised when around the tree. A pet fence or baby gate might be helpful in preventing their access to the tree while you aren't home.

🌞 We all love beach days with our furry friends 🌞

When you head to the beach this summer, don't forget your dog's water. Beach water, when ingested, can cause salt poisoning and lead to "beach diarrhea", vomiting, dehydration and seizures.

Paralysis tick season is here!

Although they are more common through the months of September through January, paralysis ticks are found year-round in South-East Queensland. This means that it is important for your cat or dog to be on prevention through the whole year.

Signs that your pet may be affected by a paralysis tick:
- Change in gait or wobbly on their back legs
- Difficulty breathing
- Unable to stand up
- Change in bark/meow
- Vomiting/regurgitating

If you have any reason to suspect your pet may have a paralysis tick, please phone us straight away! If they are showing any signs of paralysis when we are closed, please contact Animal Emergency Services in Underwood on 3423 1888.

⭐️ Patient of the week ⭐️

This week's patient of the week is Cammy. Cammy came to us for an urgent appointment after being bitten by another dog when out for a walk. A few stitches, some pain relief, and a good dose of TLC later, Cammy is well on her way to recovery!
