Hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday! 🐰🍫💝
I did, because I got to look after 16 dogs 🐕 19 cats 😻 3 rats 🐁1 bearded dragon 🦎 4 chickens 🐔 5 guinea pigs 🇬🇳🐖 and countless fish! 🐠It was also my birthday on Easter Saturday so cuddling all animals was the best gift of all! 🥰 I love my job! 😁

I'm not great at updating the socials as I'm just too busy and I take pride in admitting that I prioritise your pets over posting photos... that's not to say I don't take about a bazillion photos and videos! 🤣📸 But I send them to their furmilies and then I make myself available to fully engage with your fur babies because that's what I know they need and what I love to do! 💖

Just wanting to reassure all my furmilies that I'm currently looking after - Your homes are dry and fur babies are all safe, fed and happy. 💜 Stay safe everyone 🌧

My house on the other hand....... 😳 Took me 4 hours to get home from my morning rounds of pet visits as all the roads were flooded over. Finally got home to this... It *was* the path to the school next to our house and it has come all the way up to about 3cm off our doorways 😬

The rain has eased now so I'm off to find some routes to get to more fur baby visits again. 🤗 Lucky I have a big 4WD but I won't be risking food waters, I'll just find another way around. 😉👌😊

So lucky to be invited next door to one of my furmilies' houses to meet these beauties! I heard a Black Cockatoo call really close every time I entered the house and was searching in all the trees nearby, when I suddenly saw over the fence, this beautiful guy, among other amazing creatures, who'd been rescued by an incredible lady. I got to give him head scritchies and all! 🥰 I'd handled wild ones during my time at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, but never a tame one like this! 💗 Plus I couldn't pass up on holding her beautiful python too! 😍🐍🦜

‼️ SERIOUS NEW DOG DISEASE IN QUEENSLAND 🛑
Tick-borne dog disease, Ehrlichiosis has recently infected a Queensland dog. With Biosecurity Queensland confirming that the Mt Isa dog had not travelled outside the state the dog is reported to have contracted this disease from a local tick population.

Ehrlichiosis can make dogs very sick and, without treatment, can result in death.

Dogs that are infected can expect to show a fever, look very tired, will refuse food and start to loose weight. Other tale tell sign of the disease include cloudy or red eyes, mucky eyes and nose, pale gums, swelling of limbs and bruising or bleeding under the skin.

Dog owners should have their dogs on regular tick prevention products and always check their dogs for ticks, paying close attention to their head, neck, ears, chest, toes and mouth.

If you think your dog has ehrlichiosis – speak to your vet, community Animal Management or Environmental Health Worker straight away.

Bath time for our puggie friends!

Although we should always check over our pets every day, bath time is a great opportunity to take our time and do a really thorough physical examination of our fur babies and have a lovely, gentle bonding experience too, so that it is a positive and relaxing time for everyone involved 🥰 And of course towelies and treats at the end are a bonus 😋

Merry Christmas to all our amazing furmilies! It's been a challenging year for everyone but I have had so much fun with all my incredible furry, feathered and scaley friends and their lovely pawrents!! 💖 So many new furmilies and so many generous, loyal furmilies that I've been looking after for many years. We are thinking about all of those that are spending their first Xmas without their beloved fur babies. There's been quite a few this year who have sadly crossed the rainbow bridge and although I'm so heartbroken, I feel so grateful that I have been given the opportunity to really get to know so many beautiful animals who have really made such a big impact on my life and have definitely left paw prints on my heart. 🐾💕 So thank you for opening up your homes to my little family, thank you for trusting us with your favourite little fluffballs and thank you for all your loyalty and love this year! 🤗

Beautiful Arlo is our special Xmas guest this year and all our fur babies get their own pressies of course! 😁🥰 Fluffy, squeaky toy from Arlo's furmum, ropey toy and stinky fish treat from our little family 🐾🎁🎄🎅💖🦌🛷

Rescued this beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet yesterday 🦜 Often these little guys seem incredibly tame, but it's generally not a good sign and usually indicates injury or illness.

They put a new meaning on the word 'wild' as they are nutters and love flying around like they're in a parrotnado! 🌪️🌀😵‍💫🤣 Looks like lots of fun, but the most common reason people find them on the ground is because they've flown into a window and managed to give themselves a concussion! 🤦🏼‍♀️ As long as there are no neurological signs or broken bones, they just require some rest and TLC before being released again.

Referring to my days as an Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital vet nurse, sadly the prognosis doesn't look good for this beauty... Unable to fly, no long tail feathers and minimal flight feathers on the wings... Often called a 'runner' and can indicate the very contagious psittacine beak and feather disease. This little dude was so healthy though, a great body condition score, really bright and alert, and had vibrant, healthy feathers, so I had high hopes maybe he was just a fledgling, but the orange beak indicates he's an adult.

After allowing me to examine a bit more, I noticed the left leg seemed possibly broken or paralysed (there is a disease called Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome) but the right leg was perfect and no other obvious symptoms. So got a towel, cardboard box and some fresh grevillea and off to the Ferny Hills Vet Clinic🤞 Poor little sweetheart! 💓
