This is Mirren!! Mirren came to see us for her annual F3 vaccination. She's about 5 years old now and after assessing her teeth, Dr Andrew noted that she had some calculus build up in her teeth. Dental checks are a part of all vet appointments.

Calculus is a build up of material on the teeth that has hardened over time due to no intervention such as teeth brushing or regular dental cleans.

It is recommended to brush your cats teeth everyday to prevent calculus build up, but as we know cats can be quite difficult and don't usually allow this. Other things that can help, include a dental diet such as Hills t/d, Hills oral care and Royal canin Dental to name a few, gels or rinses for the mouth such as Aquadent or Mavlab. The best course of action though would be to get yearly teeth cleaning at the vet.

Alby came in for his yearly vaccination and health check up. He was in very good health but has put on some unexpected and unwanted weight.

Given cats age much faster than us, owners need to be monitoring their weight. The risks associated with weight gain as they age include arthritis and diabetes.
If you notice your cat is overweight some tips to help shed some kilos are:
~Reducing the amount of dry food you are feeding them
~Making them work for their food (Scatter feeding, puzzle toys, feeding on platforms)
~Smaller portions more times a day
~Playing with them more and getting them moving
~Giving more wet food over dry food as dry food has more calories
~Feeding a specific weight loss diet such as Royal Canin Satiety or Hills Metabolic. These diets help by keeping your cat fuller for longer

We recently saw Nekochan as his owners noticed some crustiness on the back of his neck. He was suffering from a skin issue.

There can be many causes for skin issues. We recommend booking in a consult to see Dr Andrew so that he can assess your kitties skin and discuss your options.

We saw Mini recently for his FIV vaccination and worming tablets.

If your cat tends to hunt geckos or lizards then they are at risk of ingesting a Spirometra Tapeworm. This can be prevented by giving a 3 monthly tapewormer tablet.

Pepe came in to see Dr Andrew with his little sister Kali for his annual vaccination and a little pamper session.

His owners noticed that he had a few knots under his armpits so they were clipped out and he was given a little groom with our moulting brushes.

He was a very good boy for it all, even despite his sister pestering him while in consult.

Kali came to see Dr Andrew as her owners noticed her spey site was puffy and red. Sadly she had developed a seroma as she was too active after her desexing procedure.

Kali had to be placed on antibiotics to kill the infection then was on strict cage rest until her wound has fully healed.

It is recommended for cats to be on cage rest or in a confined space for about 2-3 days so that the surgical site and body can heal. They should also refrain from licking at the site as it can create an infection.

If your cat is really active at home or you don't have the facilities to confine them, we are able to provide a confined kennel for them to rest for that period of time.

For anyone following along, we had Dandan come to see Dr Andrew for a work up of his recent breathing issues. After investigation, he was diagnosed with a pyothorax, which is a severe infection in the chest. Chest drains were placed on both sides so as to remove fluid from his chest to help him breathe. He was also placed on antibiotics for the infection.

After many days of treatment, his personality blossomed, he got more active and went back to his normal self.

As seen in this photo taken days after removing the chest drain, he is looking quite happy and healthy.

Dandan is such a brave boy and hopefully we won't be seeing him anytime soon with any emergencies.

Some might remember having Racey, Lacey and Mallow in for vaccinations and desexing. Well we had them in again for their last vaccination where Racey will be going to his forever home.

In general we start kitten vaccinations at the age of 8 weeks old. They then receive their second and third vaccination at 4 weeks apart from each other. This means that their last kitten vaccination should be about when they are 16 weeks old. After that, they then receive their yearly vaccination.

We recently had 'Boryee' visit us for her annual F3 vaccination. She is getting vaccinated for cat boarding as her owners are going away.

She was a very good girl and is even harness trained.

Today we had gorgeous little 'Milo' come in for some pampering with our nurse Taneesha

Her dad noticed that she kept getting her nails caught in her bedding so she had her nails trimmed and got lots of pats while chatting away to us.

Our nurse Taneesha does nail trim consults free of charge for all her kitty friends.

If you notice your cat getting caught on things, some extra clicking on the floors or even some limping it could be a sign that your cat is due for a nail trim.

This handsome boy named 'Mr Bean' came to see The Cat Doctor Brisbane for his neutering procedure and a teeth clean.

He was a very good boy for his procedure but was a little scared in his new environment.

We have a brand new, state of the art dental machine so that your cat can go home with a fresh breath and pearly whites. A dental examination is a part of all general health check ups.

This is Smokey!!! She recently visited The Cat Doctor Brisbane with her sister Kazbah for their annual vaccinations.

When she came in it was a mystery as to what age she is. Turns out this little girl is just shy of 9 years old, who would've known?!?!

At this age we recommend a senior check up.
A senior check up includes health check, bloods, urine, blood glucose and a complimentary blood pressure check (which is valued at $50). This check up is recommended in cats from the age of 8 as they are heading towards the more senior stage of their lives so it can pick up any senior issues early.

At The Cat Doctor you will experience one on one care as well as knowing your cat is the only one in reception making them, as well as you feel at ease.

Dr Andrew recently saw Kazbah for her vaccination. She was a good girl and is due for her next vaccination in another year.

We currently stock F3 and FIV vaccinations with Rabies vaccination on request. Don't forget to book your cat in and keep them protected this winter!

We recently had 'Pishoo' in to see Dr Andrew as his carer was worried that he wasn't eating and seemed less like himself since his owners have been on holidays.

Pishoo didn't have the classic sign of being sick or lethargic so Dr Andrew tried him with a variety of foods and turns out he just doesn't like his current food so was sent home with some samples and is now back to eating normally.

Tuna came to see Dr Andrew for a rash on his face. He was very brave when the vet was cleaning his face with an antibacterial solution and didn't flinch at all.

He will be back in the next week for a check up and hopefully the medications he was sent home with has healed his skin.

Dr Andrew saw Blossom the ragdoll for her yearly check up and vaccination.

She is in very good health, especially as her owners maintain her luscious coat by regularly brushing her at home and trimming her nails.

Jemmy came to see us for a health check up and vaccination. She apparently liked how comfortable her carrier was.
She was a very good girl and in very good health as a 9 month old.
She's currently up for adoption through Best Friends Felines (BFF).

We have these gorgeous little kittens in for desexing today. Their names are Minou, Jett, Bogart, Sascha and Benji.
They are part of the rescue group Best Friends Felines (BFF) and most are pre adopted so will be going to their fur-ever homes very soon.

They have spent the day cuddling each other, suckling on their toys and getting up to mischief as kittens do.

Pagan came to see Dr Andrew with an unfortunate bout of diarrhoea. We started with a diet trial and also got owners to get samples just in case we needed to send it off for testing.

Dr Andrew recently saw 'Cheap' for suspected vomiting issues. He received an abdominal ultrasound to find out what the issue was.

Cheap was a very lovely gentleman, lovely enough that it was a fully awake ultrasound. We were able to perform the whole examination without the need of any anesthetic agents at all, which is very good for the cats' health.

We had 15 week old Winston and Selina in for their final vaccinations. We desexed these two about a month ago and oh my have they grown since then.
As you can tell Selina is much more fond of the camera.

They came in with their foster brother Razz and he was quite happy to not have to walk around with them.

We had 10 year old 'Razz' in to see Dr Andrew for scratching his ears and a senior check up. He was a confident man and strutted his stuff about the consultation room.

We had gorgeous 10 week old 'Creamy' come and visit us at The Cat Doctor for a groom and health check up.
We currently stock Feliway diffusers and Feliway sprays as well as using them around the clinic which Creamy approves of.

Feliway is used to reduce stress in cats and to help them feel more comfortable in their environment which is very helpful at a vet clinic, multicat household, new environments and travelling.

We recently had these 3 cuties in by the names of Racey, Lacey and Mallow for their first vaccinations. They were very brave for their needles and are due for a booster in 4 weeks time. Mallow was a little bit shy and preferred sitting in his cage.

We are open Monday to Friday excluding Tuesday from 8am-7pm and open half days over the weekend. We offer home visits and emergency after hours consults.

Yugi came in to see us as his owner noticed an injury on his head.
Dr Andrew found a swelling on the top of his head as seen in this picture which we call a 'Cat Fight Abscess'. Yugi likes to explore the outdoors which puts him at risk of encountering other animals that might fight him, sadly the fight didn't end so well for him this time.
All cats that go outside are at risk of injuring themselves and potentially catching FIV .

Yugi is hiding a little secret..........you wouldn't have known he actually has 3 legs

We recently had 'Cindy Lu' in for her vaccination and upon examining her, the vet noted she had a pre-existing heart murmur. Dr Andrew performed a heart ultrasound to find the reason behind the heart murmur. Heart murmurs might point towards heart disease which is quite serious. After some investigation we diagnosed Dandan with a pyothorax. Due to this diagnosis we placed bilateral chest drains to remove the fluid from his chest. As you can tell from this visit his breathing has become much better and his personality has blossomed now that he is not struggling to breathe. He wasn't eating at home previously but given how well he was at the clinic we tried feeding him and he ate up all his food. This is Dandan! His mum noticed that he was breathing up over the last couple days so she brought him in to be seen by Dr Andrew. An X-ray of his chest was performed and an ultrasound of his heart to look for the cause of the breathing up. Cats having trouble breathing are generally emergencies so they should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Gorgeous little Harley came to us for her desexing procedure today. She absolutely loved the attention and even proceeded to make little biscuits for me in her cage.
