Nurse Colleen brings to work with her every day her natural horsewomanship and love of her patients. The relationship between the horse and the Equine Nurse is a two way street of trust and respect.
Horses know they can relax under Colleens hand and that is a trait that cannot be taught, there is no shortcut or tricks to this trade.

Poor Riley & his poor paws.
Who would have thought that enjoying a family day around the pool at home would end up with Riley’s paws needing Veterinary treatment!
How often do you see videos of dogs excitedly running around the pool barking at their loved ones enjoying a cool dip?
Well Riley & his family did not realise that all that fun was damaging Riley’s paws. It’s not just walking the streets on the hot footpath that can injure their sensitive pads.
During these summer months (even at home) pavers are hot, hot, hot 🔥.
Riley is all better now but it’s a timely warning that we need to take great care when it comes to the damage that the Queensland summer can do to our precious ones.

So much happens at the back of our Hospital in the Equine unit that most “smallies” (The name affectionately given in the Vet world to the dog/cat/pocket pet side of things) don’t realise how large our Hospital is or that we have paddocks/stables & a large treatment/surgical area for horses & farm animals.
Some education is required! 😊

“A horse's pedal bone, also known as the coffin bone, is the final bone in a horse's foot and is located inside the hoof capsule. To help a horse's pedal bone heal, it's important to immobilize the foot to prevent the bone from moving. A farrier can shoe the horse with a bar shoe and quarter clips to minimize expansion of the hoof wall.”

What a way to end the year dearest Danyell! (Our favourite Granny 😉)
There are many risks in this industry. When you are trying your absolute best to help sick, scared or injured pets there are going to be incidences of injuries to our team .
Like all other vet clinics we look out for ourselves & each other. There are protocols & procedures in place to protect the team. But every now & again our team put their bodies on the line. It is an unfortunate & rare occurrence.
Poor Nurse Danyell was on the receiving end of some feline fangs. Cat bites can get infected very rapidly if not treated. Fortunately Danyell was able to seek medical attention very quickly & hopefully with some good meds on board she will be healed up in no time.
Danyell would be the first person to put herself in the line of fire to protect a fellow team member. Danyell is brave, skilled & tough as nails. Thank goodness she will live to nurse another day. ❤️

🎄Christmas Eve at Manly Road Vet🎄

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the vets,
The MRVH team were working hard for your pets.
They hung their stethoscopes round their necks with care,
In hopes that their Uber Eats soon would be there.
All sweet patients were nestled snug in their beds;
Just in time for the vets and nurses to get themselves fed.

When out in the ward there arose such a clatter,
The Team sprang from their seats see what was the matter.
Away to the ward they flew like a flash,
Slid open the doors and in they did dash.
In the corner of their eyes who did appear?
But a zippy little canine so brave, and without fear.
Who did our team just happen upon?
They knew in a heartbeat it was the Frenchie - GASTON!

More rapid than eagles he ran from his name.
Gaston was away, all part of the game.
And as his vet mum, set to chase round the room.
"Now, Gaston! Dear Gaston! Don’t chase the vacuum!”
But then, in a twinkling, they heard on the floor,
The clicking & padding of each little paw.
As they drew round the corner, Gaston was to be found.
Running back to his mother he came with a bound.

Gastons energy now spent on that nasty floor cleaner,
He knew of none that could ever be meaner.
And as he melted into his mothers embrace,
He new he was victorious in that dastardly vacuum chase.
As Gaston’s weary eyes closed for the night,
His mum carried on with a vets endless fight.

If sadly you find this Christmas illness does strike,
You will find our Team here upon this sacred, holy night.”

We are an Animal Emergency Hospital and Veterinary Clinic. Manly Road 24hr Veterinary Hospital is a culmination of exceptional Veterinary care from both the Small Animal Hospital and Equine Unit. With expansions currently underway to increase our facilities that sits on over 5 acres of land in scenic bayside suburb of Manly, QLD.
