We love seeing what our clients do with the mules they breed using our jack , Pedro. This is Elum, the mule, on his first lesson as a harness mule. Impressive mulemanship skills by his owner Cyle Newton.
Heidi introducing Zelda to a Wade saddle and a rear cinch for the the first time, in preparation for Zelda’s 3rd ride.
We are very pleased with the calm nature of Pedro’s mule babies.
Zelda got her first introduction to being lead out in the State Forest today. It was a short ride and she went very well. Heidi has her slated to be a three bell mule eventually.
This is Esky 3 years ago. He has just turned 3.
Esky, showing the cool nature and intelligence of a mule by Awapuni Pedro. I can’t wait to start roping off him.
This is one of Pedro’s babies growing beautifully and being handled well by his owner. Bred by the owner using frozen straws.
Another beautiful day for a ride. Today Esky is getting some experience with ponying another horse.
Esky is increasing in confidence all the time. Today we were riding in country unfamiliar to him and he was handling it very well. I have ridden young horses through this area often and the mule seems to need a little more time and patience. But once he’s got it, he’s got it.
Esky getting a soft introduction to some cow work today. Lovin’ this mule by our Jack, Awapuni Pedro. He is still a very green ride but trying really hard. Here I just wanted him to watch and track the cow as best he could .
Zelda having fun...
Who doesn't love kicking up their heels and running around with their mate in the rain ?
About 10 years ago I got interested in owning a riding mule. In Australia, at the time they were practically non-existent. So we imported the Jack, as a yearling, grew him out and put him to our mares. Here is our oldest mule, green broke, on a Sunday morning ride at my place.
Frozen semen still available for this season.
Elum, the fanciest mule in Australia, is getting a little confined area training and looking like a million bucks. Well done Cyle Newton
Congratulations to Joe Teuma. So pleased that you are having so much fun bonding with your new mule by our Jack, Pedro.
Esky was out and about again this morning for a Sunday ride. Today’s lesson was water crossings.
More slow and steady rope training for Esky. He is handling it all so well so far.
Esky, the mule, getting a little roping practice in. This is only his second time so still just getting him used to the movement of the rope around his head.
Yesterday was mouthing day for Esky. Nothing fancy. Just looking for him to stay calm and give to the bit. This was a good start. I expect him to get softer as we progress.
A little sample of Esky’s first ride.
