HOW TO PREVENT HEAT STROKE 🥵
As temperatures soar this summer it’s super important to make sure that your fur babies have opportunities to escape the heat!
Ways to keep your fur children cool are:
- Having access to plenty of shade and cool flowing air
- Allowing them indoors in the aircon (outdoor dog especially)
- Having plenty of clean and cool water that’s kept out of direct sunlight
- Cool mats in areas your pet likes to rest
- Frozen treats or ice blocks for them to lick can be great ways to help them stay cool and entertained on days where exercise should be kept to a minimum
-For those dogs that love the water, a shallow and shaded shell pool can also be a great way for your dog to cool down!

If you suspect your pet is suffering heat stroke here’s some signs you may notice:
- excessive and uncomfortable panting
- Staggering or inability to walk or stand
- Diarrhoea or vomiting
- Skin hot to the touch
- Red/ bloodshot eyes
- Red gums
- In the early signs they may be pacing around trying to find cold flooring and or shade
- An increased heart rate

If your pets are experiencing 1 or more of these signs they could be suffering from heat stroke! It is important to actively try and cool them with cool water on their paws and cold towels (make sure you have a rotation of cold towels for your pet as leaving the same towel on can have negative affects due to the towel heating up with their body temperature) and reach out to your closest emergency clinic!

Tayla joined our team 5 years ago as a student nurse. She has grown to be one of our most knowledgeable and skilled nurses. She also has this uncanny ability to remember every pet and owners name!
Sadly Tayla and her bestie Pippa are leaving us and are ready to enjoy new adventures in Mount Isa.
We are so very sad to see Tayla go as she is a very loved member of our Vetwell family.
We wish you all the best Tayla! Lots of love from your Deagon Vetwell family!

Welcome to our new hydrobath attendant Thalia! Thalia has been with us for a few weeks now and already has a fan base, including the handsome little Radley below.

Hydrobaths are $10 per pet, heated, no appointment needed and we have towels! Come on down and freshen up your pup 🐶 🧼
