It’s important to remember that in Indooroopilly we have an abundance of incredible wildlife. We need to be especially careful when we’re on the road.
🦆Keep an eye out when driving for any animals that may be crossing
🛑 Stop and check any injured animals (especially marsupials) as pouches may contain a joey - like the one pictured below!
📞 If you identify any juvenile or injured wildlife - give us a call to determine the next steps to help them. Please do not remove any animals from a pouch as this can cause further injuries.

Here at Indooroopilly Vet Clinic we celebrate dental month in August with lots of dentals and checkups! What this means for you is we can help your pet have beautiful teeth, without as much of a price tag.
🦷 Because let’s face it - no one wants their pets teeth to look this! This tooth is only held in the mouth by pieces of the gum - the roots are completely gone! This is our best definition of “waving in the breeze”.

We’re here for another weird and wonderful wildlife Wednesday! We had a snake brought into the clinic who seemed to have a couple of injuries, and we needed radiographs to confirm whether there was any damage to the spine.
We think this is a really incredible shot! Check out all those vertebrae - this is how they manage to twist around so much!

We’re here today to chat about another product that you might not have heard of - pet laxative. This product is available in a number of brands - in a yummy malt-based gel.
Pet laxatives are designed to not only help soften faeces - which can be helpful in cases of constipation. But is also of great assistance for animals who ingest large quantities of hair. For all of our long haired cats especially, that have problems after grooming - this is a real treat.
Not only that but application in cats is super easy. Simply smear a line on the top of the paws and allow your cat to lick it straight up!
Another bandage art beauty! Luna came in with a cut on her paw and left with a beautiful piece of artwork - we think the bandage says it all, don't you? “Ouch!”
We've got another awesome wildlife Wednesday, featuring Dr. Keeley & this beautiful juvenile stone curlew. These incredible birds are ground dwelling and usually found in pairs with their chicks. This chick appeared to have been separated from its parents, was lethargic, not eating & after examination & x-rays, was found to have a fractured leg. Dr. Keeley worked tirelessly to warm, feed & treat this beautiful native animal.
We recommend if you find any stone curlews on the ground alone, to monitor the situation for others to return, make sure they are bright and appear well. If they seem injured, call a local vet clinic for further advice on the specific situation.
Enzo is always happy to join us in clinic. We are greeted by wagging tails and excited cuddles - even to go out the back to the hospital! His love for all our staff is infectious, even when he comes in under the weather. That being said, we do still enjoy seeing our patients who aren’t quite as excited about coming into clinic.
Did you know cats can also have high blood pressure? Regular veterinary checks can help keep your feline friend's heart in purrfect shape. Depending on your pets condition, one of our vets may recommend we check their blood pressure during their visit. The process is completely painless & can generally be done in the consult room. Flo here was an absolute superstar for her blood pressure check - with a casual recline and preferred leg offered to us immediately!

This week on Wildlife Wednesday, we're focusing on the majestic Powerful Owl. Known for its impressive size and hunting prowess, this owl is truly a marvel of nature. We were lucky enough to have not one, but two of these magnificent creatures brought into the clinic. These owls were handled with great care by the good samaritans who managed to bring them in. After an exam to evaluate any obvious injuries, we reached out to specialist wildlife hospitals in order to arrange ongoing care!

Our furry little friend found a unique hiding spot during their vet visit. You won’t believe it but they decided to nestle in the sink! It was a sight to behold and a reminder that our pets can find comfort in the most unexpected places.

Waterproofing Wars:
Little Milo got himself in some trouble a few months ago when he was in the wars with some waterproofing! After taking a walk on the wet freshly laid floors, his feet were green 🐾 His parents were unsure of the toxicity of the substance and unable to remove it from his paw pads. He came into the clinic and after careful examination of the product and some trial and error from our Vets and Nurses, the removal process was underway. To top it all off, Milo was an absolute superstar through the whole thing!

Keeley loves exotic animals and working with the large numbers of wildlife we treat 🦜 She is also passionate about pathology (study of disease) and is excited any time she can use her microscope. She ADORES greyhounds, pigeons and ibises.
In her free time, Keeley is a self-professed nerd who loves gaming, anime and reading!

Recently at the clinic we’ve been seeing an influx of Lorikeets with LPS - Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome. This disease affects them by causing paralysis/weakness of different areas of the body - most commonly the wings and hind limbs. Because of this most cases are unable to fly and/or walk. While the cause of the disease is not fully understood, RSPCA, Wildlife Carers and Vet Clinics are having some success with intensive treatment if brought into care early enough. If you find a lorikeet in need of veterinary attention, please take them to your closest veterinary clinic or the RSPCA. We also urge everyone to remember that when handling these birds, although weak, they can still be rather spicy. Another Wildlife Wednesday: This beautiful cockatoo came in last week - he was a bit shaken up, was recovering quickly and otherwise healthy. Which is great news - time for release! He was a bit rocky in the beginning of his flight, but quickly got his bearings and off he went!

This beautiful girl is Tally! When you watch this video, do you think she is excited or anxious? In this situation she is anxious! Tally’s owners tell us that she does not act like this at home, only when at the clinic. We can tell Tally isn’t completely comfortable at the vet because her behaviour shows us! See her: - Licking her lips - Constantly moving - Trying to lay down and appear non-threatening - Pawing - Vocalising and more! It is important to identify if the behaviour of an animal is displaying matches the situation they are in. There is a good chance they could be suffering from itchy skin and as the weather is warming up we are seeing a spike in cases. 🐶 Some common signs of skin irritation included redness, scratching, head-shaking and chewing at the feet/tail.
