Today is World Veterinary Day 🐶🐩🐈🐈‍⬛🐱🐕

Each and every day is something new, someone new and each and every day, we say Thank You.

A thanks to be able to do what we do each and every day, though the days can be long, hectic and sometimes heartbreaking - we are grateful to be a part of something bigger than us and to be able to help those little ones that need it and are loved by you so very much.

We'd love to see a pic and/or hear a story if you'd like to share. Thank you for being a part of our daily lives and all you bring to them.

Here are our kids - Master Nermie Noo (Norman), Miss Fifi (Felicity), Rickity Bublè (Ricky Bobby) - our clinic cats & Daffy Doodles (Daphne) our clinic doggo and meeter-and-greeter.

Meet Jimmy 🐈‍⬛🖤

This little devil in disguise arrived to us as a quaint and curious little ball of fluff, with no owner as far as the eye could see. We have kept the young man off the streets and in a stable home since. Now, having been shown the ways of the world, this fine young man must branch out, spread his hairy, goofball wings and find his furrever family.

Young Jimmeh will arrive sans-man beans (desexed) and vaccinated, microchipped, health checked and up-to-date with parasite control for an adoption fee of $250.
We have estimated his birthdate as 22/12/23. Can anyone say 'Christmas Babyyyyyy!'?

♡🐈‍⬛ A bit more about Jimmy 🐈‍⬛♡

Jimmy has *mucho* energy. He likes to play, play, play, enjoy a few feral-mode munches/death drops, then go straight back to playing.
This rambunctious teen will be happiest in a home with lots of scratchy posts, climbing trees, balls, toys - anything and everything, to help burn that young man energy. He likes other cats but does play on the rougher side. Norman and Ricky Bobby aren't fans of his 'style of play' (ie they're too slow for this speed demon), whereas Felicity just flips him off and he tornadoes to the next play thang. So, either an equally cooky cat friend or a cat that will put him in his place. He doesn't mind our girl Daph, but does put on his brave boots to smaller dogs that he feels like he might have a one-up over. He is also very easily won over by food.
We encourage anyone that feels they can fulfil all of Jimmy's hopes and dreams - and energy needs, to contact with your interest! He is lovely, funny, quirky boy that deserves a fantastically fun home to call his own.

Our beautiful Daphne 🥰
As a veterinary team and also pet owners/lovers ourselves, we know how hard it is when your little one is unwell.

Being an integral part of our TFV team, it was an all-hands-on approach with Daph. The whole team helped, both in the lead up to her referral and surgery, and the recovery period following. It was all a bit new, a bit emotional here and there - for us all.

But, Daphne being Daphne, she got on with business! She re-learned how to eat, drink, pick up and play with toys, grab her bed to do a humpybumpy plus she's thoroughly enjoying being vacuumed once more 😂

We cannot thank the team at BVSC The Animal Hospital enough, for all of their care, advice, expertise and ongoing support. We have our Daphy Doodles because of this access to such amazing care.

Daph is 100% back to her regular, quirky, sweet, and lovable self. Our pets are incredibly resilient, and they constantly amaze us with their ability to 'just get on with things'. Thank you for all the love and support over the last 4 months - Daph, Tahlia and the entire TFV team send lots of love to each and every one of you.

This is beautiful Daphne and she “kicked nose cancer in the butt” (as written on her bandana). She had a nasal planectomy and maxillectomy performed to remove a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).
Her primary care veterinarians at Toowong Family Vet referred her following a 2 week history of intermittent left-sided epistaxis (bleeding from the nose) and sneezing. She underwent CT imaging and a nasal mass was identified (see image).
BVSC’s surgery team led by surgery specialist, Dr Katherine Steele and surgery resident Dr Becky Leung performed the surgery to remove the mass at the front of her nose and maxilla to remove the cancer.
Daphne has recovered very well from surgery and wears her bandana with pride. She is pictured here with Dr Becky. Isn't she gorgeous!

🐈‍⬛ WE NEED YOUR HELP 🐈‍⬛

This handsome young man was dropped into the clinic this afternoon after being found wandering around a unit complex in Toowong, apparently he’s been seen around the area for the last few days.
He’s only very young, we think about 12 weeks, no microchip or collar.
He was ravenous when he came into the clinic, so we think he’s been on his own for a few days.

We’ve set him up in a room for the night with a comfy bed and a big dinner.

If you recognise him, please call us at the clinic on 3613 9644 📞

🥰 REUNITED! HAPPY DAWG DAYS! 🥰

🐕 FOUND DOG 🐕

German Shepherd, male, desexed 7 years old. Black and tan, nice and long and slender - he is in lovely condition, so obviously cared for and loved.

This Mr Pointy Face was found walking infront of cars at the corner of Grimes Street and Milton Road (right at Deer Duck Bistro) at approximately 5:00pm.

The wonderful lady that found this big hunk'o'man, will take him home for the night in the hopes that the owners are found through facebook/RSPCA etc.

If any issues (as they have pets of their own), they will take him to their nearest after-hours vet - likely out near Western Suburbs as this is where they live. It would be nice to reunite him tonight, but he will be in safe hands regardless.

Please 👍 and SHARE to help spread this German Shepherd word around town.

Bruce has a new haircut 🐈‍⬛ but he still needs a new home 🏠.

Here’s BRUCEY!
After 2 years, we are still on the hunt for a new forever home for Bruce.
The handsome man is 7 years old, desexed and fully vaccinated. He has a big personality and would be suited to a home without dogs and young children.

He gets along with the clinic cats but it did take some time for him to warm up to them.

If you’d like to organise a meet and greet with Bruce, please contact the clinic on 3613 9644

It’s no secret that our team at Toowong Family Vet is like a family, with members being of the two-legged and four-legged variety. There have been some challenges in our little family of late, and we wanted to share them with you.

♡ E M I L Y ♡

Our Em has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. This comes as a big shock, especially since Emily is so young.

While undergoing tests and preparing for her treatment, Emily has been facing the biggest challenge of her life, but she has faced it with strength and grace. This week Emily will be starting chemotherapy. She will continue to work most of her shifts during her treatment and hence many of you will still see her at the front desk.

During this time, Emily and the team at Toowong Family Vet would like to ask if clients visiting the clinic could interact as you normally would with Emily and the team. While wishing Emily well will be gladly received, it is her preference that she is not asked for updates on treatment or how she is going, as this can become overwhelming when it is repeated multiple times per day.

♡ D A P H N E ♡

Our lovely girl Daphne was found to have a nasal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) - a cancer that is somewhat rare in the nasal planum of dogs. An aggressive cancer requiring aggressive treatment, Daphne underwent CT to confirm the mass and subsequently underwent a nasal planectomy and maxillectomy at BVSC on November 22nd.

A nasal planectomy involves removing the nose in its entirety. A maxillectomy is where the upper jaw - to varying extents, is surgically removed. Obviously, this drastically changes the appearance of any animal undergoing such surgery and as such, we wish to let you know that Daphne will be looking different to how you may remember her.

We are so happy to share that the surgery was curative (we received results yesterday - meaning the mass is fully excised, and its surrounding tissues are clear from any microscopic SCC cells). We will keep you updated with her progress. Nurse Tahlia also wants to thank each and every person that has checked in, sent gifts and well wishes Daphne’s way so far - it means so very much.

We hope Daffy Doodles can show everyone that whilst treatment may be daunting or confronting, our pets are incredibly resilient. She is getting back to her lovely, sweet, quirky, happy little self. The healing and re-learning process will take months, but please know that whilst the packaging may have changed, the gift that is Daphne is still the same.

♡ Our aim is to always find some good in any situation. We know our sense of humour, our wonderful team, clients and each and every one of the pets that visit, will help keep our spirits high and Toowong Family Vet the wonderful place we all know and love. Thank you for your time, support and understanding at this time ♡

Wishing to express a massive ♡ THANK YOU & WE LOVE YOU! ♡ for coming along to our ELEVENTH Christmas Pawtraits/Santa Paws this year.

There's always so much time, thought and care taken to get this happening each and every year, and you bunch never disappoint when it comes to showing up, smashing it and making it as special as it is! 🥰

Thanks to the wonderful Tanya for manning the front of house as she always does so happily; Dr Cyan and Nurse Rachel for being on coffee runs and pat patrol; and the lovely parents of Master who so kindly bought me a coffee after I stomped my 99.9% full coffee into the carpet... at 7:59am 🤦‍♀️ Also the wonderful Ewen for dropping off a surprise loaf of bread ☺️ plus giving goodies for all the crew.

Thank you to my Daph for being the best test-pup each and every year, making sure things are up to scratch and cute to boot. Thousands of photos to process, edit and send out - thanks to you all who attended.

Here's to another year done and lots of lovely memories. Thank you from the bottom of my nursey heart.

❌️🐱 NATION-WIDE SHORTAGE OF CAT VACCINES 🐱❌️

Australia is currently experiencing a shortage of cat vaccines. This is due to a supply issue from one of the major cat vaccine manufacturers, which has led to flow-on effects to all suppliers. Wholesalers in Australia no longer have ANY cat vaccines. This means that vet clinics like Toowong Family Vet are left with whatever we have in stock at the present time.

Please click the link below to find out all you need to know moving forward, including:
- change of protocols in relation to vaccines given vs availability
- what viruses are covered in each vaccine
- what cats are priority and where your feline friend stands
- making vaccination bookings for your cat
- expected return dates of stock
- all other known need-to-know information

Please share with any cat parents. It's always tricky when access to preventative care are limited, but as always - we'll get through this together ❤️

One year on and Bruce still needs a home!
Bruce was handed into our clinic as a stray on August 31st, 2022. In that time we have managed to rehome numerous other stray and unwanted cats.
Poor Bruce. Do you know anyone who could offer him a happy forever home?
Bruce is desexed and fully vaccinated. He is about 6 or 7 years old and in good health.
Bruce loves play and active interaction with humans, but he is not very good with other cats or with dogs, so he will do better in a one-pet home.
If you can give Bruce a home or know anyone else who might be interested, please contact Toowong Family Vet on 3613 9644 or [email protected]

What’s up, Bru-ce!

You might remember me from emails such as “May we have your Cattention” and “Cat Adoptees Updates”. My name is Bruce and I’m a looking for a fam.

Arriving at the clinic nearly 12 months ago, I’ve been given plenty of time to adjust to a more leisurely way of life. I now know that pats are good – even better, enjoyable! I get along okay with Normie and Ricky Bobby, however my favourite is by far Felicity. We like to sit in our cushy beds, side by side, blissfully ignoring each other. Even though I have my select friends, I do think I’d prefer being an only child (furred or human) and would be a smoother transition from ‘tempor-hairy clinic life’ to ‘furrever home life’.

I certainly started out as more of a fighter but now feel I identify as more of a lover. I don’t like being swept off my feet (literally, I reallllly don’t like being lifted up or carried) but I do looooove food. My heart is 1000% through my stomach and - just like my stomach is huge, so is my wuvwy Bwucey heart.

I would very much love to have a chance at a home where I can sit in the sun, sleep on the bed, have never-ending food and someone to call my own. If you think this *might* be you, and you *might* also be willing to give me a good duration trial (atleast four weeks), I think we *might* just become bahst frahnds…!

Cheers,
Bruce

🐱 WE NEED YOUR HELP 🐱

This handsome man, who we have named Howard, was dropped into the clinic last week after a lovely couple had witnessed him walking the streets of Toowong for the last few weeks, seemingly without a home.
He isn’t microchipped but is wearing a collar with no details on it.
He had a wound on his face, we assume from a cat fight that hadn’t been treated, so we are unsure if he still has a family.

He’s very sweet, extremely needy and desperate for attention.

🎈🎉🎈Today marked TEN YEARS since we officially opened the doors to Toowong Family Vet. On that day, a decade ago, we could have only imagined being lucky enough to be at this point in time. 🎈🎉🎈

The reality is that through ALOT of hard work, determination, refusal to fail, dedication, love, skill and joy - plus a constant feeling deep down that this is what we were meant to do - both as people and veterinary professionals, we are here where we are now. 💪🙏👏🙌

We have twenty staff (including clinic cats 😂), thousands and thousands of clients with even more pets that fill their hearts and homes, who give us a fulfilling life (and work-life) purpose and the clinic a place in the world.

You - our incredibly thoughtful, caring and kind clients are the reason we are here today. Your recommendations, your support, your trust have helped keep the clinic and us going - through all of our ups and downs, challenges and triumphs, our hellos and goodbyes. The patients that brighten our days and warm our hearts - you are why we do what we do. Thank you for the cuddles, kisses, trust and friendship. We appreciate you all - human and companion and we thank you forever. 🥰😍😘☺️🤗🐶🐱🐕🐈🐈‍⬛

The biggest, most heartfelt and genuine thanks to the truly wonderful people that make up this team and family: Dr Tahnya, Dr Tegan, Dr Amanda, Dr Georgina, Dr Christine, Emily, Nurse Kristin, Nurse Kristen, Nurse Emily, Trainee Nurse Tabitha, Nurse Shirley, Nurse Lauren, Tanya, Lauren, Amber, Peter, Norman, Felicity and Ricky Bobby. You are the life, the soul, the heartbeat of Toowong Family Vet and because of you we are who and what we are. One of the very best Veterinary Clinics in Brisbane. Also home to Australia's most decorated/awarded Clinic Cat, Norman (he told us to write this. Oh, and that he's also ridiculously good looking.... 🙄) 💜💜💜 🐱🏆🥇🎖🏅

Every day is filled with a whoooole lot of work, but it's also chockablock filled with laughter, support, understanding, friendship and love. We have a real 'home away from home' at TFV and each and every person working here makes that a reality - day in and day out. 😺😸😻😽

🎈 We'll be sharing some snaps, videos and stories over the next couple of weeks encompassing the past ten years, but for now? Happy Ten to us! 🎈
